The Body Shop’s White Musk has been one of my favourite scents since high school. I may have grown up and my tastes got a little more luxurious, but I still have a bottle of White Musk on my perfume table alongside all of the designer bottles. Ok, I actually have two bottles because I also have the Libertine version.
I never thought that smell would be replaced for me, but the new Smoky Poppy line is ready to over throw my old favourite.
This smell is amazing! I had no idea that I loved the smell of poppies. I didn’t even know what real poppies smelled like. I don’t know if this is what poppies smell like. This is a rich, musky, smoky and almost spicy smell. It’s so rich and warm that I want to wrap myself up in it.
I’ve been obsessed with every product in the line that I have. Obviously the Eau De Toilette is the piece de resistance.
The other product that is very cool is the Poppy Seed Body Scrub. It uses real poppy seeds to exfoliate your skin. Unlike some other scrubs from The Body Shop it doesn’t leave a weird film on my skin. It makes me feel smooth and moisturized!
After writing this review I found out that the Smoky Poppy is a limited edition collection. I am crying on the inside. If you happen to be heading to The Body Shop, pick me up a few extra bottles and send them c/o Makeup Most Wanted because I am going to need to stock up.
It’s been established that I have a lot for all things rose scented so it’s no surprise that I was almost in love with Rose De Grasse, the first fragrance in AERIN’s new Premier Collection. Considering it’s a blend of three types of rose (Rose Centifolia, Rose Otto Bulgarian and Rose Absolute), the description alone left me pretty much dying to try it. Luckily, the scent lived up to everything I was expecting.
Rose De Grasse is the perfect fragrance for rose lovers who don’t love the grandmother type rose. It’s fresh and light but a pretty substantial scent that lasts for hours. If I put it on in the morning, I can still catch hints of scent at night.
Rose De Grasse is pretty much my dream perfume but at $185 a bottle I’m going to have to be careful with it and with my new obsession that’s not going to be easy.
Now that we’re almost at the end of January I think we can all agree that we’re ready for spring. Unfortunately it’s not going to be here that quickly but luckily L’Occitane’s Arlésienne collection will give you a little hint of spring in the middle of winter. We got to try the Eau de Toilette and the Velvet Hand Cream and the scent is a gorgeous spring floral.
There are three main notes in Arlésienne; Rose, Violet and Saffron and they really work so well together. This isn’t as delicate a fragrance as I would’ve imagined it to be, that said it’s not overpowering either. The Eau de Toilette lasts for hours and I tend to like it more the longer I wear it.
The hand cream is on the thicker end of the L’Occitane hand cream spectrum, perfect for winter. And the scent is identical to the Eau de Toilette, something which doesn’t happen very often with fragranced creams. There are thirteen items in this collection, so you’re literally covered head to toe if you want to layer.
It may not be spring yet, but Arlésienne definitely has me dreaming of it.
Avon has a great reputation for releasing amazing perfumes including Halle Berry’s and Fergie’s bestselling scents. The new perfume, which features Maria Sharapova in the ads, is for the woman who is already lucky in life and love.
The notes on the perfume include bergamot, red berries and mandarin with night flowers and sandalwood. It’s strange though because to my nose, all I get is a strong smell of warm vanilla. Vanilla isn’t even listed as one of the ingredients, but when I spray it all I get is enveloped in a rich vanilla scent. I have a love hate relationship with vanilla. Sometimes I find it very relaxing and comforting, but some varieties of the smell can be overwhelming to me. This perfume is pretty overwhelming when I first spray it, but it gets a little better to me as it settles into my skin.
I also used the body lotion and bath gel and the smell is much more subtle. I could get more of the other notes in the shower gel and body lotion.
When I wore Luck to work, I have to say I got many compliments about the scent. As I walked past people’s desks they would ask me what I was wearing.
If you are feeling lucky and love the smell of vanilla, maybe this is the scent for you.
Elvira is one of the most famous names associated with Halloween, so it makes perfect sense that Demeter would team up with her for the Elvira Dark Collection. With three scents to choose from (or the collection) you’re pretty much covered for your Halloween costume.
I’m not sure how Demeter decided what a vampire smells like but the first three notes mentioned for Elvira’s Vamp are Poisonous Belladonna, Dracula Orchid and the Nicotina plant. I mostly smell the mandarin that comes later down the list.
I’m not generally a huge fan of Ylang Ylang and the scent of it in Elvira’s Zombie doesn’t really win me over but I think we can all agree that this fragrance smells like flowers instead of what I imagine a zombie actually smells like; rotting corpse.
Elvira’s Black Roses
Elvira’s Black Roses is my pick of the three. It smells like a rose perfume, just a little darker and deeper. It just makes me think of Halloween and fall and spookiness.
With three very different scents to pick from, Demeter’s Elvira collection will have a spooky scent for everyone.
I love wearing different scents each season, I feel as if when the weather changes the kind of fragrance I love changes with it. Luckily I received Viva La Juicy Gold Couture just in time for fall. I’ve never tried a Juicy Couture perfume before and if Gold Couture is any indication, I’ll have to try more of them.
Gold Couture is said to have notes of wild berries, honeysuckle, vanilla, caramel and golden amber. The first thing I smelled was the vanilla, followed by the caramel and amber. I did notice something fruity but I wouldn’t have been able to pinpoint berries let alone honeysuckle.
I love how warm a scent Gold Couture is and it’s absolutely perfect for fall, going into winter. It’s not the longest lasting fragrance (I stopped noticing it after wearing it for around three hours) but it’s a nice change from the fruitier scents I was wearing all summer.
If you’re already a fan of Caudalie’s Divine Oil, you’ve probably wanted a matching perfume to do with it. And you’re in luck because Parfum Divin is basically the same scent. With a blend of rose, musk and vanilla it’s a much more delicate scent than you might expect but it also stands up for every day wear.
This is the perfect perfume if you want to smell good but not ‘perfumey.’ It has a clean and fresh scent that doesn’t necessarily scream, “I’m wearing perfume” right away. Layered with Divine Oil the scent is a little stronger and lasts a really long time. I was still catching whiffs of it after wearing it almost 12 hours.
If you love scent but hate when they’re too strong or you just want to smell amazing, Parfum Divin is definitely the way to go.
Marc Jacobs’ Daisy has been my statement scent since I first discovered it. While I have a shelf full of beautiful perfume Daisy will always be there. It reminds me of spring even on the darkest of days. It makes my boyfriend fall in love all over again. I actually think everyone should own at least one bottle of Daisy because it smells so amazing.
Marc Jacobs has created a number of varieties of Daisy, all of which are nice, but none are as sweet as Daisy Dream.
In the bottle Daisy Dream smells a lot like the original Daisy. I wouldn’t blame you for thinking it smells exactly like Daisy. It’s the subtleties that make it so different. I only truly noticed them when I sprayed the fragrance on me.
Daisy Dream is, well, dreamier than the original. It’s lighter and airier. Instead of Vanilla, Violet and Musk you have lighter notes of coconut water, pear and blackberry.
Daisy Dream is perfect for warm summer days or to make any cloudy day a bit brighter.
Demeter has captured the smell of stepping out of the shower in their new Clean & Fresh fragrance collection. The collection has three scents: Baby Powder, Pure Soap and Clean Skin.
The Baby Powder scent smells exactly like you imagine. The powdery smell is strong and it almost feels like you just sprinkled powder onto your skin when you sprayed it. It’s so sweet and lovely it takes me back to my childhood.
Pure Soap has the smell of a new bar of soap. It’s almost an unscented smell. It’s hard to describe the smell of clean, but that is what this fragrance reminds me of.
Clean Skin is a pure smell like that of your skin after getting out of the shower. It smells like a bathroom full of the steam of floral soaps and the smell that lingers on your skin.
If you can handle the balance you can spray them all on your skin in the right combination to really get the smell of walking out of the shower. They are fun and fresh smelling. Most of my favourite perfumes remind me of clean soapy smells, so these fit right into my collection.
If there is one problem with the Demeter fragrances, it’s that they don’t last long enough. Less than an hour after you spray them on, you will barely be able to smell them on your skin. I wish that they lasted longer, because the scents are so nice I want to enjoy them all day.
Spring is supposedly on it’s way. But if you can’t wait for warmer weather the scent of Philosophy’s Sunshine Grace will help you get there a little bit sooner. Sunshine Grace really does smell like summer; a little flowery, a little citrusy and a little like laundry drying outside. I’ve tried the firming body emulsion and it goes on smoothly, makes your skin feel really soft and the scent lasts a really long time.
If you need a little summer in your life before the snow melts, Sunshine Grace is definitely the way to go.
