Kiss InstaWave Review

*Sponsored Post*
Kiss InstaWave
Ever since I first saw a curling device that sucked your hair in and did all the work I’ve wanted to try one. When Kiss offered to send us one for a review I was so excited, until my hair dresser mentioned she’d be terrified of burning her hair off. So with that in mind, we decided to try it together just in case.
Kiss Instawave instructions
The InstaWave directions make it sound so easy. Hold it vertical to the hair you want to curl, push a button, hold it and let it go. Done? Not quite. There’s a definite learning curve to using the InstaWave. First, this thing packs some serious heat and it gets there in seconds. Make sure you have somewhere safe you can put it down if you need to. Second, you have to make sure to put your hair in the slot on the iron. This wasn’t in the instructions and it took a couple minutes before we could figure it out properly.

Then you have to decide what kind of curl you want. The InstaWave rotates in two directions and gives you completely different curls depending on what button you push. And finally, you need to know that doing the back of your hair is going to be almost impossible on your own. There’s no way that I can see where you can hold it vertical at the back of your head and push a button.

Between the two of us we got some pretty decent curls. And we definitely learned a few tricks, the first being that whatever hair is even remotely the iron, it’ll suck in and you’re better off just letting it and separating the curls after. I also loved the curls a lot more when I started in the middle of my hair and just let it suck the bottom part up. It was more beachy wave that way and less Shirley Temple.

Was the Kiss InstaWave as amazing as I was hoping? No. But I would definitely use it again to curl my hair. Once you get the hang of it, it seems to be easier than a regular curling iron.

New Winter Products For Great Hair

In case we’ve never met in person, you should know that I have some pretty crazy hair. It’s big, it’s wild and it takes a lot to manage. I have found a few new products that have been keeping these locks in check while the winter winds are trying their best to break.

OGX keratin oil

OGX Keratin Oil Collection – This four step collection includes a shampoo, conditioner, 3 minute miraculous recovery mask and instant repair weightless healing oil. I don’t know if it is always like this, but the shampoo and conditioner in my bottles is seriously thick. It’s almost chunky. Ignore the weird texture though, because these products have an argan oil base that makes your hair so shiny and manageable. If you want some added help, try the 3 minute miraculous recovery mask. Unlike some other hair masks, it’s really easy to use in the shower as a part of your regular routine. It doesn’t try to change your routine. The Keratin Oil is perfect for right when you get out of the shower as the final step towards strong manageable hair.

L’Oreal Professionnel Wild Stylers Next Day Hair – Everyone’s hair looks better the second day, and now I don’t have to wait for my hair to get that look. This hair spray gives your hair that second day matte feel without getting greasy or sticky. You can spray this on your hair without restraint until you get the look you want. It doesn’t make your hair feel weird, just look great. I found it was perfect for getting beach waves on a cold fall day.

Kerastase Fix Fabulous Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray – Kerastase has created a hair spray that is easier to use than the classic aerosol can with a simple pump. Instead of having that continuous spray, you can spray this hair spray directly onto where you need it. You can also spray it all around your head. It also eliminates frizz even on the worst of frizzy hair days.

L’Occitane Revitalizing Fresh Hair Care

My hair has never felt cleaner and I would like to thank L’Occitane for that. I had no expectation for the Aromachologie Revitalizing Fresh Shampoo and Detangling Spray when I got it. I had never used L’Occitane’s hair care products before.
Revitalizing fresh shampoo
The first thing you are going to notice about the Revitalizing Fresh Shampoo is that it has a very strong smell. It’s packed full of essential oils (thyme, cedar, lavender, mint and grapefruit) to give you hair a deep clean. That makes for quite a smell in the bottle. I actually warned the other people in my house about it, because I didn’t want them to get a shock if they used it.

The smell is worth it though, because my hair has never felt so clean. It has a light foaming that doesn’t get really bubbly when you lather it in, just enough to let you know that it is worked. As I rinsed the L’Occitane shampoo out of my hair, I could actually hear that my hair was squeaky clean.

There is no Conditioner in this hair care collection, so I wasn’t sure what my next step should be. My hair felt clean and soft, but I’ve never not used a conditioner on my thick, curly, unmanageable hair. I used my regular everyday conditioner, but I was instantly sad that I was covering up my freshly clean hair.
Revitalizing fresh detangling spray+
Post-shower and mornings after, I used the Detangling Spray on my hair. It has the same strong scent. I sprayed it all over my morning hair. My hair was definitely easier to brush after a quick spray. If you have thick hair like me ensure that you spray on top and underneath your hair to allow your brush to glide through easily. It works well enough, but I probably wouldn’t go out and buy it again like I will the shampoo.

If you need a seriously deep clean L’Occitane is going to get all of that residue out. Be warned though, delicate hair might not be able to stand up to this hardcore shampoo and the smell is really really strong. If you are tough and want something deep clean, this is hands down the best detoxifying shampoo that I’ve ever used.

Kérastase Discipline Collection

Kerastase Discipline Line
I’ve been dying to try Kérastase for years but didn’t get around to it. Luckily, their most recent line, Discipline, is perfect for my dry, frizzy hair. The Discipline line promises to eliminate frizz for up to three days. I’m usually lucky if I can get mine to go away for three hours. Challenge accepted.

I started off using the Bain Fluidealiste (shampoo) and Fondant Fluidealiste (conditioner) and while they both smelled great and did a decent job, I didn’t really notice a huge difference. Enter the Maskeratine (hair mask) and Fluidissime (no rinse lotion/styling product). The combination of these two completely changed my hair.

The Maskeratine is exactly what you’d except from Kérastase’s cult followed hair masks. It’s super thick and leaves your hair feeling amazing. My hair felt stronger before I was even out of the shower. Usually I use several styling products to get rid of frizz, try to infuse some volume and generally just try to get my hair to look good. Fluidissime did all that in one easy spray step. It completely got rid of every single piece of frizz, defined my waves and gave my hair bounce. Did I mention my hair wasn’t crunchy or sticky, even when I used it on dry hair to refresh? It’s also supposed to cut down on blow drying time but I don’t blow dry my hair so I can’t say if it actually does.

Kérastase is definitely not a cheap line and you can only find it in salons but I will definitely be buying another Fluidissime when I run out. I only wish the bottles were bigger so they lasted a little longer.

We also recently got some great hair tips from Kérastase’s Artistic Director Stacey Staley, you can read that here.

Tangle Teezer Brush Review

I used to have a small plastic brush that helped to detangle and flatten my hair making it more manageable. I loved that brush. It was small and handy. I would bring it with me everywhere. That is how on one sad day, I dropped it out of my purse and into a public toilet. It was devastating. I clearly couldn’t use this brush again. Even though the water was clean I would always know that that brush had been in the toilet.

The next day the Tangle Teezer arrived on my doorstep. It literally couldn’t be more perfect timing.

I loved Tangle Teezer almost right away. I liked the great little size of this brush. It fit comfortably in my hand to hold with a good grip, so maybe this one wouldn’t end up in the toilet. It also comes with a cover, so that I can throw it in my brush and not worry about it getting gross.

Using the brush is interesting because the plastic bristles are so tough. I have very thick hair, so running this brush through my locks was almost a relief. It got right down to my scalp to make my hair and scalp feel loose. It scratched my head. If I had thin hair, I don’t know how it would feel. I think it would be too fierce for someone with a sensitive scalp or thin hair.

Tangle Teezer brush got right in there to smooth and untangle my hair. It’s true that it didn’t really tug at my hair or hurt when it pulled. It slipped through my thick wavy hair easily leaving it a little smooth.

The Tangle Teezer is great for mornings or quick fixes. It’s perfect for people who don’t want to fuss.

OGX Coconut Water Hair Care Collection

Are you over the whole coconut hair and body products trend? I am not! I love the smell of coconut on my skin and body, so I was ecstatic to get more bottles of shampoo, conditioner and oil with the tropical scent of coconut.

The OGX Shampoo and Conditioner hydrate and nourish your hair well enough. The smell was, as you can expect, amazing in the shower. After it dried, I can’t say that I had anything to complain about. I also don’t really have anything to rave about other than the smell. My hair looked normal. It’s a good thing that it kept my hair in the same condition, but it was also a bit of a letdown that I didn’t come away with stunning shiny hair.

It’s the final step of this trio that really made me happy. The Weightless Hydration Oil is the final step to your hair. It is the same idea as many other hair oils. This OGX oil is light and gives your hair amazing shine. It also has that same coconut scent.

If you are like me and need a boost of tropical coconut, especially as the cold weather comes OGX has you covered.

Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Hair Care Collection

dove dry oil

There is nothing better than getting compliments on your hair, am I right? After using the Dove Dry Oil shampoo, condition and oil just one time, the compliments kept pouring in.

Hair oils are more than just a trend. At this point, every woman does (or should) have some variety of oil in their arsenal. Dove has joined the ranks of affordable hair oils with their Dry Oil collection that includes a shampoo, creamy conditioner and silky Macadamia Oil.

When I was using the shampoo and conditioner I didn’t think much of it. It seemed like any other drug store brand. I feared that it would be oily and greasy, but the product was thick and creamy instead. The scent of macadamia oil was soft and light. I applied the oil onto my damp hair post shower. It all seemed to act fairly normal.

As my hair dried the true beauty was revealed. My hair was soft and smooth. My colour looked richer and more vibrant than ever before. Instead of frizz, I had soft natural waves. My hair was light and so soft to the touch. Everything about it was perfect. It was so easy to manage. Everyone started complimenting me on my gorgeous shiny hair.

Dove is all about helping women embrace their inner natural beauty. This Dry Oil hair care collection has definitely helped me love my hair again!

O&M Hair Care Review

The first time I visited O&M’s website, I was hooked. O&M stands for Original Mineral. This Australian hair care brand believes that your hair is better being free from stress. They started with clean hair colour, but their product range is so much more than that now.

Since I couldn’t choose just one or even two products, O&M’s brilliant publicist sent me their Mini Minerals collection that has five travel size products from the range. The set includes the Original Detox Shampoo, Hydrate & Conquer Shampoo, Hydrate & Conquer Conditioner, The Power Base Protein Masque and Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque.

I started with the Detox shampoo to refresh my hair. The shampoo is minty and refreshing in the shower. It smells strong and made my scalp tingly. My hair felt clean, but not dry and stripped.

The Hydrate & Conquer line is more of your everyday shampoo & conditioner. It has a mellow scent and is packed full of vitamins. My hair loved the conditioner. I was surprised by how runny the O&M products were. They were almost watery in their consistency.

The masques were my final test. I loved these and so did my hair. They were thick and sweet smelling. They absorbed right into my hair when I applied them. I could almost feel my hair sucking in all of the nutrients. My hair felt silky smooth once it was all rinsed. I will be seriously disappointed when I run out of these minis.

Cake Satin Sugar Dry Shampoo Review

cake dry shampoo

I’m a big fan and promoter of Cake Beauty. They are Canadian. They create wonderfully smelling bath products. Their products have a touch of fun and whimsy. Some of their products are on my all-time favourites list. So I was disappointed when their Satin Sugar Dry Shampoo didn’t wow me.

Before reading any further, I have to admit that unlike some I’m not a big fan of Dry Shampoo. I think if I didn’t have thick, curly hair I might be more of a fan. I love the idea, but I find the application itself faulty.

Cake’s dry shampoo smells amazing. Like other Cake products, it’s got that sugary sweet smell that brings out my inner teenage girl.

Cake Dry Shampoo feels really light when you spray it on your hair. Most dry shampoos are light, but this one is even lighter than others. The thing is, I feel like it is too light. Unlike other dry shampoo it doesn’t feel like it is absorbing the oil. After spraying, my hair looks almost the same. With the “brilliance boosting prism-shine technology” part of me feels that my hair looks even shinier than before.

So while I want to love Cake’s dry shampoo, I will stick to my tried and true favourites!

Marc Anthony Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Hair Care

marc anthony coconut oil shampoo

I have tried a lot of hair care products over the past four years. I’ve tried, tested and reviewed smoothing creams, shampoos, detoxes, masks, sprays, mousses and more. I love sharing my products with friends and family. It’s my own personal mission to help everyone find their hair miracle in a bottle. For the first time ever, I have found a hair care line that I am not willing to share. Marc Anthony’s Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter hair care line is my own personal hair miracle.

This shampoo, conditioner and hair oil treatment is full of coconut oil and shea butter, which, in case you didn’t know, are natural moisturizers for your hair. This dream combination helps to stop frizz, repair damage from heat and styling, strengthen your hair and keep it soft. It all sounds too good to be true and for once, it isn’t.

This Marc Anthony shampoo and conditioner literally make me want to run home and jump in the shower. The smell, oh the smell. How can you describe something so wonderful? It’s this buttery, coconut aroma that fills the shower with me. The shampoo cleans, but I can also feel that it is so hydrating, while the conditioner seals all of that hydration in. By the time I’m done my hair slips through my fingers.

The joy doesn’t end when I step out of the shower though. After cleaning my hair, I have the daily oil treatment to keeps the shine and moisture going for the rest of the time. It has the same amazing smell ensuring that walk around smelling my hair all day.

My hair not only looks amazing, but is so manageable since I started using this dream team. Thank you Marc Anthony for making something that loves my hair inside and out.
