Part of what I love about holiday sets is the packaging but Clé de Peau takes the packaging to their Celestial Beauty holiday collection to a whole new level. Swash London designed it all based on key words celestial, journey, eternity, true beauty and light and boy did they deliver. But the outside is only part of what this makes this collection great. The inside definitely matches the outside. Celestial Beauty Makeup Coffret
The Makeup Coffret is everything you could need to get your holiday makeup done. It comes with three shadows, two blushes (and brushes for both), a lipstick and a mascara. The shadow shades range from golden to a plummy brown, which could also double as a liner. There was a little fallout from the shadow, so you might want to be a little careful with application. Shimmering Lip Gloss Trio
I love the shades of these lip glosses, between peach and pink this trio has you covered. What I didn’t love was the lip gloss wand, which is basically a plastic stick, and I ended up using my fingers to apply which worked much better. Powder Compact
This is my favourite from the whole collection. This is the powder compact I want in my purse always. It’s so pretty and the translucent powder inside isn’t too drying and really silky.
These are perfect gifts, even if all you do is look at them. Luckily they products inside work just as well.
Holiday season brings out the prettiest palettes and Tarte has won our hearts with these holiday must haves: Park Ave. Princess Contouring Palette – A gorgeous holiday glow is now ours thanks to this palette! This gold palette includes Tarte’s beloved Amazonian clay bronzer, blush and highlighter in shades that are perfect to get a shimmering glow. The matte texturing ensures that I am only shining in the right places, but the bronzer gives me a golden hue that is warm by the firelight. Ladies Who Lash – If you’re a fan of anything to do with lashes, this set is definitely for you. The pearl-like handled limited-edition Picture Perfect eyelash curler brings a touch of elegance and the deluxe mini version of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara is the perfect mascara to add to your curled lashes. You’ll have long, defined, curly lashes that will last through any holiday party you’ll go to. Kiss And Belle Lipsurgence Lip set – Lipsurgence is an award winner for a reason and this is the perfect set to try it for the first time or to just get a bunch of your favourites in one place. With four lip tints, two matte lip tints and two lip glosses, there’s a pencil for every time of day and occasion.
I’ve tried a couple products from IT Cosmetics over the years and I’ve always loved them. And if you live in Canada you’ve probably seen them on The Shopping Channel before. We have a sneak peek of TSC’s exclusive limited edition IT Cosmetics holiday sets! These are only available on TSC November 14-15, so if you want them you have a really limited window of time to get them. All the sets come in a pretty silver giftbox and are wrapped with ribbon and a gift tag. IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Essentials Palette
This palette has everything you could possibly need to do your entire face. It includes 18 Anti-Aging eyeshadows, 3 blush and blush tints, 6 Anti-Aging Collagen Lip Flushes, 4 Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealers, Vitality Glow Bronzer, Bye Bye Pores Silk Pressed Powder, Hello Light Powder Luminizer and Hello Light Cream Luminizer. It also comes with a card that gives you tips on how to use everything in the palette. And when it’s closed it can fit in your hand. This is perfect for someone who doesn’t use or buy a lot of makeup or are just starting to use it. IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Matte Eyeshadow Palette With Shadow Brush
This eyeshadow palette has a great set of shades that’ll help you go from day to night. The transforming ombre radiance ribbon transforms the shadows from matte to pearl, giving you way more options. The shadows are really well pigmented and last a long time but they don’t feel heavy like some matte shadows do. It also comes with a dual ended shadow brush. IT Cosmetics Lipstick Stain 6-Piece Holiday Kit
These lipsticks are so pretty and they smell so good (must be the cherry oil). They’re really more of a lip tint than a traditional lipstick but you can build up the colour and it feels more like a lip balm. And when it would normally wear off, it leaves a tint. This is probably my favourite kit. IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe 6-Piece Essentials Brush Collection I love brush sets and this collection has some great quality brushes. These brushes are sturdy! I haven’t had a chance to try all of them yet but the shadow brushes are super soft and don’t have any fallout. The travel case that comes with the brushes is the perfect size to throw in a purse or carry on without weighing everything down.
I have to say, I really love all these kits from IT Cosmetics. Since there’s a limited time to get them, you might want to set an alarm to remind you to pick a couple up. And maybe some for gifts because once you get them, you’ll want to keep them for yourself.
You can also find these at The Shopping Channel’s website.
If there’s one thing I love about Shu Uemura’s collections, it’s that they don’t necessarily follow what everyone else is doing. Their Brave Beauty collection is all about trying looks you wouldn’t necessarily have tried before.
We received Brave Beauty Lipsticks in Orange and Maroon and they both went on smoothly, are really creamy and lasted a decent amount of time. Maroon is the perfect fall shade and while I wouldn’t have tried Orange on my own, it was pretty flattering. The Satin Radiant Stick in pink is a blendable stick blush that’s buildable so you can go for a natural look or something more dramatic. It’s the eyeshadow palettes though that are the stars of the Brave Beauty collection for me. We got the Green and Orange palettes and both are so pigmented and blendable. There are shades I would’ve usually worn on already and shades I never would’ve thought to try, but I’ve been finding ways of using all the shades.
I love that Shu Uemura’s collections take me outside my comfort zone and with the Brave Beauty collection there are so many new looks I want to try.
I’ve been using MAC for over fifteen years but sometimes I forget how much I love it. Until I get a collection like A Novel Romance. I would wear pretty much every shade in the line but the ones that were sent to us just also happened to be the ones I would’ve picked on my own.
The A Novel Romance eyeshadow quad is perfect for fall. It consists of My Fantasy (a pale neutral olive pearl), Fall In Lust (midtone grey mauve frost), Rising Passions (greenish charcoal with gold pearl velvet) and Dance In The Dark (matte blackened brown). They all blend really well with each other and are really buildable. The pigmentation is perfect, like most MAC shadows and Dance In The Dark is a great liner shade.
Fun Ending is a soft neutral peach powder blush that went on slightly darker than I was expecting but was also really buildable. Now that whatever colour I had from summer is wearing off, this is definitely going to be a go to blush shade for fall.
Hearts Aflame is a matte midtone brick red lipstick that’s also perfect for fall. It’s a touch darker than what I would normally wear, but it’s super flattering on me, the pigmentation is great and it lasts for hours. This is sold out on the website right now, so you might want to call around to find it.
I really love everything about this collection. All the shades looked amazing, had great pigmentation and is basically everything I’ve come to expect from MAC.
I love when eyeshadow shades are sold together, whether it’s a duo, quad or palette. It makes the work of picking shades that go together that much easier. L’Oreal’s new Colour Riche Quads are a little different than the typical drugstore quad. These ones work better when the brush is a little wet, giving you gel eyeshadow feel with the blendability of a powder. It’s really the best of both worlds and they go on gorgeously. They blend really well and if you apply with a wet brush, once they’re dry they last a really long time without fading. Absolute Taupe Absolute Taupe is a perfect neutral brown quad. The swatch is wet but you can lower the intensity of the shades by applying them dry. Rose Nude
Rose Nude is by far my favourite, I’ve been using it constantly both wet and dry and the colours are just so pretty. Incredible Grey
Incredible Grey is the perfect quad for a traditional smoky eye and once we’re back into fall this is the one I’m going to be reaching for often.
There are eight quads to pick from and L’Oreal has done a great job picking shades that work for everyone. I love the versatility of these and they’ve quickly become a staple in my makeup routine.
I’m the first to admit I might have a slight obsession with Shu Uemura products so I was really excited to try their new products for summer, especially the drawing pencils. I hold the brand up to a pretty high standard and luckily, I wasn’t disappointed. Ready To Wear Palette in Pink Hues
I don’t wear a ton of pink eyeshadow, I have too much red in my skin for it to be noticeable. The shades in this palette range from super pale pink (great for highlighting) all the way to a mid tone purple. They blended together really well but I wish they were a little darker on me. But if you’re a fan of pink eyeshadow, this is definitely the palette for you. Petal Lash Mascara in Intense Black
The brush on this mascara is super curved and really different from other mascaras I’ve tried lately. It really separated my lashes and fanned them out and I didn’t have any clumping issues. For a shade called Intense Black however, it wasn’t quite as black as I was hoping. That said, this has become a regular in my mascara arsenal. Drawing Pencils
Even though I’ve been using a lot of gel liners and liner pens lately, I will always have pencils as my go to eyeliner. These pencils are seriously amazing. When I first opened them up I wanted to see how well they ‘drew’ so I started drawing circles on the back of my hand. There was absolutely no tugging or skips in the lines and I got the same result on my eyes. These are a little softer than most pencils so if you’re going to wear them during the summer or when you know you’ll be sweating, make sure you wear an eyeshadow primer because they will melt on you. Otherwise these are pretty much the perfect liner for me.
Urban Decay have always had a cult like following so it makes sense that they’d love a movie with it’s own cult following. So to celebrate Pulp Fiction’s 20th anniversary, they released a limited edition collection based on Uma Thurman’s Mrs. Mia Wallace. The 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil, Revolution Lipstick and Nail colour all have the name Mrs. Mia Wallace and are all deep red. There’s also a Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Gunmetal and an eyeshadow palette.
The nail polish went on beautifully. It doesn’t have the paddle brush that so many polishes have now and I appreciate that but the brush was a little bit thin so it took some work when using thin coats. The swatch is two coats and a top coat. The colour is gorgeous, it’s a deep garnet with has some shimmer in the sunlight.
The eyeshadow palette is probably the standout of the collection. Whether or not you’re trying to use it for a Mia Wallace look, this is going to be an essential fall palette. There was a little bit of fallout that stayed mostly on the case but these shades look amazing and wear really well.
Urban Decay put an incredible amount of effort into this collection. The palette comes with a ‘get the look’ card that tells you how to look like Mia Wallace. And when you open every box, there’s a quote from the movie inside. Something tells me the people at Urban Decay are more than just casual Pulp Fiction fans. If this collection is what happens when they love something, I hope there’s more like it coming.
I’m not sure how, but I recently realized I’ve never used Almay makeup before, so when they offered to send us their Smart Shade collection I was really excited to try it. Almay’s Smart Shade line is supposed to make choosing makeup a lot easier. Instead of picking from a million shades, you pick light, medium, etc..and let the makeup do all the work. Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup in Light I usually have to choose the lightest foundation shades possible so I was slightly concerned that the light shade would be too dark for me. Unlike other shade matching foundations, it doesn’t come out of the tube white, it’s more like a light beige with little dots in it. It really did match my skintone perfectly and blended really well. I don’t really need a full coverage foundation so this was lightweight enough for me. Smart Shade CC Luminous Primer
This is called a complexion correcting primer. I call it a highlighter. I generally like my primers a little less on the luminous side, as I just want a base to throw my makeup over. As a highlighter this is fantastic. It does give you a glow but you only need to use a little. Smart Shade CC Concealer + Brightener in Light
I’m lucky enough that I don’t have dark circles or bags under my eyes but I do occasionally need concealer for redness and random breakouts. The concealer side of this was just a little too waxy for me and just a little too dark but the brightness side was perfect for the inside corner of my eyes. When I mixed both sides though, I got a really decent concealer. Smart Shade Powder Blush in Pink I tend to like powder blushes over creams because I find I have more control. And I love the idea of the Smart Shade blush. This is the kind of blush that takes a little work to get the top layer soft enough to get enough pigment and I’m still working on it. The shade blends beautifully though, but I wish it was a tiny bit darker. Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Cantaloupe Cream
This isn’t part of the Smart Shade line but it came with and it’s my favourite thing out of all of them. It’s a super sheer lip balm in a gorgeous peachy shade that smells like vanilla. It’s really creamy and makes my lips feel amazing.
Overall I love the idea of Almay’s Smart Shade line, it takes a lot of the guess work out of choosing makeup. I would definitely keep using most of these products but probably not on a daily basis.
When summer hits, most of us don’t want to wear a ton of makeup that’ll melt off, let alone carry around a huge makeup bag for touch ups. Here’s a list of summer makeup essentials that will make it just a little easier to look done without a ton of products. Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
This is my number 1 necessity for wearing any eye makeup during the summer. This primer seriously works. Anything you put on top of it whether it’s shadow or liner or both will stay put until you take it off, even through humidity and sweat. Put a small amount where your bottom liner goes and it won’t wear off. Also, if you want to blend work fast because once something sets, it’s not moving. Laura Mercier Sheer Creme Colour in Golden Pink
This gorgeous pink shade can be used as a highlighter, blush or luminizer. You can use your fingers for application or touch ups on the go. It’s really creamy and blends well. Quo Gold Rush Eye Palette
This neutral palette has everything you need to go from day to night. You can use the darkest shade as an eyeliner and the gold tones are perfect for summer. LORAC AfterGlo Eyeshadow Palette
I bought this on a recent trip to Ulta (my first!) and it’s not available in Canada as far as I can tell, but the colours in this palette are amazing. The pigmentation is fantastic and if you’re a fan of bright colours for summer, this is the palette you need. Gorgeous Cosmetics Liquid Lips in Malted
Everyone has hopped on the bright pink or coral lips for summer bandwagon but if you’re going with super colourful eyes, a more neutral lip is probably a better idea. Malted is the perfect ‘your lips but better’ shade and the formula is similar to MAC’s Lipglass. It feels really smooth on your lips and wears well.
What are your must haves for making summer makeup easier?
