My eyelashes are basically white without mascara so I’m always on the hunt for the blackest mascara possible. When Urban Decay announced the release of Perversion mascara with the tagline of Bigger, Blacker, Badder, I was definitely interested in seeing how dark it actually was.
The Perversion brush is pretty big and doesn’t have any fancy curves or balls. This is a straightforward mascara brush, but don’t underestimate it, there’s some serious volume power in it. The only thing I didn’t love about Perversion was how wet the formula is. I have to do some cleanup after I apply it, every single time.
The photo shows you how well it works though. The eye on the left has two coats of Perversion and the eye on the right has no mascara. You can see how dramatic the difference is. And you can pile on as many coats as you want. So far I haven’t hit a clump stage. Perversion is definitely a keeper.

When Gorgeous Cosmetics makeup first landed in my lap, I had never heard of them. After spending some time on their website, I was pumped to see what they could offer. This Aussie brand gained cult-following for their makeup artist quality at affordable prices. I am a huge advocate of these types of brands, so I was glad to have an array of products at my fingertips.
I was instantly drawn to sparkling red hue of the Liquid Lips Lip Lacquer. It applies smooth with a slightly sticky and gloss finish. I was delighted to see that this lip lacquer went on in a red hue that isn’t too outrageous. I love red, but sometimes you need a red lip that is suitable for work. This red is glossy and gorgeous. It doesn’t last forever, but long enough to make an impact. I didn’t mind hitting the mirror to reapply a few hours later.
Next up, I applied the Ink Liquid Eye Pencil. I’m usually terrified of liquid liner. Does anyone have a steady enough hand for black liquid eyeliner? Don’t worry, liquid is just in the name. This pencil liner is easy to use. It’s so smooth. It doesn’t tug on your lid at all. The best part is that this liner doesn’t smudge. Get your heavy duty eye makeup remover out for this eyeliner, because Gorgeous Cosmetics never comes off!
Finally, I tried the Glitz Fix and Shimmer Dust Shadow. The Glitz Fix is one of the most innovative products I’ve tried in some time. If you wear eye shadow often, you should invest in this product. It is a eye shadow primer that is sticky to allows glitter polish to adhere to your lids better. It’s designed for glitter, but it would work for any type of shadow that flakes off. Just one swipe of the brush on your lids and you are ready to apply shadow over top. Work quickly because the adhesive dries fast.
Choose a dedicated eye shadow brush to use for shadows if you have applied the Glitz Fix, because it does make the bristles sticky. You don’t want to use your expensive brushes with this. Once you have a brush, it’s easy to apply the Shimmer Dust over top. This pretty shimmery eye shadow sticks to your lid right away and isn’t going anywhere.
Overall, I’m impressed with Gorgeous Cosmetics. They deliver exactly what they promise.
I typically don’t wear a lot of foundation but when I do I look for ones that give me a medium coverage but don’t feel super heavy. Laura Mercier’s Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide fits perfectly. The shade creme suits my skin tone really well and applying it is a dream.
The trick is to shake the bottle for a good ten seconds to get it to combine really well. I use my fingers to apply and it blends smoothly. The formula itself is matte and really lightweight. It’s almost like you’re not wearing makeup except your skin is completely evened out.
I did notice a bit of a chalky feeling the first time I tried it, but I’m guessing that was from not shaking the bottle enough. With all the shaking you also have to be careful when you open it, but that’s not really a big deal for foundation that works this well.
L’Oreal’s new Miss Manga mascara takes inspiration from the over the top lashes of Japanese Manga anime. The pink and black bottle had me hooked at first sight. I needed to try it.
The brush looks interesting, but don’t be intimidated. The wavy bristles appear to be different than other mascaras, but you apply it in the exact same way. The brush has a flexible bend in it. In commercials it looks like it will bend as you apply, but it didn’t bother me. I noticed that because of the different brush, this mascara feels so light going on. You might be tempted to apply more layers. You don’t need to!
L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara lifts and separates my lashes effortlessly. I barely feel like I am applying anything at all. I was born with naturally long lashes, but Miss Manga mascara made them extra long. It was a bit tough to get the outer and inner lashes covered properly with this brush, but I never had to worry about clumping.
My bottom lashes were even more fun. They made my bottom lashes so long. It’s true, I had to clean off some smudging under my eyes. That is a small price to pay for bottom lashes that feel longer than some peoples’ top lashes.
The best part about Miss Manga Mascara is that after it dries it’s not crunchy. My lashes still feel soft and natural. My eyes sometimes get sensitive to mascara after a long day. Miss Manga mascara never irritates my eyes because it doesn’t even feel like I am wearing it. I am hooked!
Lancôme’s Grandiôse mascara seems to be everywhere I look lately and I’ve probably never wanted to try a mascara more than this one. So when Influenster sent us a Lancôme Grandiôse Voxbox to try, I was pretty excited.
Grandiôse is definitely unlike any mascara I’ve tried before. It has a swan neck shaped wand that’s supposed to make it easier to reach every single lash and it’s tag line is ‘fanned out lashes, divine curves.’
Grandiôse pretty much lives up to every expectation I had and then some. In one coat, I had all my lashes covered, including ones I didn’t know existed, and already had a pretty dramatic look going and a second coat just added to it and didn’t get clumpy. The formula is a really dark black and not too wet. I don’t have to use an eyelash curler at all with Grandiôse, it’s almost like there’s one built in.
I have tons of mascaras that I use on a regular basis but I’m going have a really hard time finding any that top this one.
We received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
This summer Make Up For Ever launched their line of seven HD Primers formulated to your skin. There are six shades for different skin tones and then one colourless shade that they say moisturizes, nourishes and softens the skin for HD cameras and beyond.
Make Up For Ever has made a primer that is different than any other primer. I don’t know how professionals use it, but I started to use it more like a face moisturizer than a primer. It has a light floral scent unlike any other primer. It goes on smooth and it’s easy to apply a thin layer. It also dries really fast making it convenient for quick mornings or on set.
The thing is, I didn’t notice the other special attributed of glowing skin or a more even skin tone that Make Up For Ever promises. My skin looked fairly similar as it did before. My skin felt nice and moisturized, but nothing to write home about.
I adore Make Up For Ever, but this is one product that I think I am going to leave to the pros. I’m sure they will use it right for beautiful results.
There are so few lip glosses that I’ll actually wear in the summer, I generally find them way too sticky and go for tinted lip balms or lip crayons instead. Lancôme’s Lip Lover is changing that. A new formula that combines intense colour, the feeling of a balm and the shine of a gloss but absolutely no stickiness. This is the new way to wear lip colour in the summer. It goes on like butter and even after the colour wears off you feel like you’re wearing a super hydrating lip balm. The fact that it smells delicious doesn’t hurt.
Rose Des Nymphes is a perfect mid tone rose shade for when you want to wear a bright lip shade but don’t want to go crazy. Abricot Tango is a great peachy shade for every day wear and Bouquet Final is a high gloss fuschia with a hint of purple that’s great for going out at night.
There are 11 other shades that means everyone will find a shade that’s perfect for them.
It’s summer, so you are probably looking for something light on your skin. I hate the feeling of my skin being weighed down by makeup on a humid day. RoC’s new BB Cream has been a great treat for these last few summer months.
This BB Cream is light and creamy. I barely feel it on my face just seconds after applying. It’s perfect for a warm day when you don’t want to be wearing a lot of makeup. Since it has an SPF of 25, it’s been my new weekend go-to product. It gives me enough coverage to hang out with the girls or spend the morning at the market.
If you need full coverage, you will need to have a backup plan. RoC’s BB Cream doesn’t give you a perfect face. I find myself applying a stronger BB Cream or foundation come evening for hitting the town.
Since I know a lot of ladies who hate wearing foundation though, so this RoC is perfect for them 24-7.
If there’s one makeup product I won’t leave the house without, it’s mascara. Although my eyelashes are a pretty decent length, on their own their basically white. These are my most wanted mascaras (and a primer) right now.
Clinique Lash Power Feathering Mascara
This is my go to for daytime when I don’t want to up the drama too much but still want great lashes. It really separates and defines my lashes without going volume crazy. I’m not sure anything feathers but as long as it works I don’t care what it’s called.
Cargo HD Picture Perfect Mascara
This is the most recent addition to my mascara collection and it’s quickly becoming one of my favourites. I get volume and length and it looks like I have way more lashes than I actually do. It has a little ball on the end of the brush meant for bottom lashes but I use it to catch all my tiny lashes on top instead. Since my previous favourite mascara has been discontinued, it seems like this is going to be the one replacing it.
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
This mascara is a classic for a reason. It really gives you great definition and length. I don’t get as much volume as I would necessarily like but with the tiny ball on the end that you use vertically my lashes look amazing when I use it.
Maybelline Volume Express Pumped Up! Mascara
If I’m buying mascara at a drugstore it’s almost always going to be Maybelline. Their mascara seems to always make my lashes look fantastic. The newest part of their Volume Express Line, Pumped Up! is no exception. One coat and I have crazy length and volume. Two coats and it looks like I’m wearing falsies without the work.
Estee Lauder Lash Primer Plus
Although it’s not technically a mascara, if I’m going to be wearing more than a basic coat then I’m definitely using this primer first. It helps my lashes from getting dried out and clumpy and it’s definitely made some not so great mascaras work a lot better. If you wear a lot of mascara you definitely need this.
I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list constantly as I’m always on the hunt for my new favourite mascara but let us know what your fave is!
Unlike some people, I don’t always have nails that are the perfect length and strength. Working every day, cleaning my house, playing sports and everything else tends to make me break my nails on a regular basis. This makes all of my nails be different lengths.
When I got my Influenster box with two boxes of imPress Press-On Manicures, I was glad that for a few weeks I could have perfect nails. I was a little disappointed with the designs. The one package was a lovely metallic purple from the Disney Villans line, but the other one was white and pink black. It had feathers or leaves on it. I could picture trashy strippers wearing that design. I figured I would save those ones for Halloween.
I followed the steps to put them on my cleaning my hands, prepping them and then applying the nails one at a time. I have to say, it was pretty simple to get perfect nails. I had them all pressed on my fingers before the next commercial break of my show. The only downside that I could see about applying them is that the more nails you have on, the more difficult it becomes to pull the plastic off of the back.
Once they were on though, they were perfectly pretty!
They do have a few flaws. First, the ends of some of the nail have little plastic tabs like they didn’t file them properly. I ended up filing them myself so they were smooth. I didn’t mind, but I thought I was getting fake nails so that I didn’t have to file anything.
Second, hair products are their archenemy. Water didn’t seem to affect my nails after a day of wearing, but when I styled my hair the gel got under my nails and made my imPress manicure start to fall off.
Wearing fake nails isn’t my thing on a day to day basis. Typing this review was more complicated than ever thanks to my nails, but for a special event I will definitely get a pack of imPress nails so I can look great!
