Review: Soap And Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Crayon

SoapAndGlorySexyMotherpuckerGlossStick
I’ve been using Soap And Glory’s hand and body creams for a while but I’ve never tried their makeup so trying out their Sexy Mother Pucker (best name ever?) Gloss Crayons was pretty exciting.

As with most gloss crayons, the colour you see on your lips is a lot less scary than the actual colour of the crayons. Nudist is pretty much the perfect nude shade for my super fair skin tone. Fucshia-Ristic is a bright pink perfect for spring days and Plum Jam is a sheer wine shade that’s just dark enough for going out at night but not too dark to make me look gothed out.

These crayons go on really smoothly and aren’t sticky at all but they’re seriously shiny. They actually feel more like a lip balm and I forgot I was wearing them after a while. Any lip product that’s that comfortable and non drying is a win for me and I’ll be using these as long as I can.

Nicole By OPI Roughles Review

Nicole-By-OPI-roughles

Remember when manicures were simple? You would wear just one shiny colour on your nails. Now you have a whole list of different options and textures to choose from. OPI’s cool little sister the Nicole By OPI line is getting in on the fun with their new Roughles line.

Nicole by OPI is a little late to the party since everyone else already has a textured nail polish available, so they offered us something a little different. The Roughles nail polish doesn’t just offer a textured colour, but there are flecks of different colour to give it depth. The purple has aqua touches, the yellow has hints of orange and so on. There are many rough nail polishes, but not many have this cool speckled effect when they dry.

Speaking of the colour, this is possibly the cutest nail polish collection I have ever had the pleasure of owning. The sweet pastel candy colours are perfect for spring. When I did my nail, I felt like I was ready for Easter.

The Nicole by OPI Roughles go on your nails like a dream. They dry really fast and since they have a matte textured finish, you don’t even have to waste time applying a top coat.

I probably don’t need another textured nail polish in my collection, but these Nicole by OPI Roughles are very welcome. If you are looking for a sweet way to celebrate spring, these will definitely do.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette Review

TooFacedChocolateBar
There are so many neutral palettes coming out lately and I love them but at some point you want a little more variety. Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar palette is a great alternative. With shades in the brown, pink and plum families along with matte and shimmer shades; there’s something for every occasion. I love that the base shades (White Chocolate and Champagne Truffle) come in a larger size since those are always the ones that run out first.

Not only are the colours gorgeous and long lasting but they’re made with real cocoa which is supposedly good for your skin. And it actually smells like chocolate! Want a quick chocolate fix? Grab the Chocolate Bar palette and throw on some eyeshadow.

New Find: Ardency Inn’s Americana Collection

ARDENCY_INN_AMERICANA_NATURAL_LIP_COLOR_PENCIL

Ardency Inn was named one of the top new beauty lines, so you know we had to try out their new Americana collection to see what all of the hype is about. The collection is full of natural hues inspired by the rock and diversity of New York City. This means that while their older collection have been pretty bold, this Ardency Inn line is pretty safe.

All of the lip colours in the line are naturally coloured. So while they were nice, they didn’t really wow me. Don’t get me wrong, they felt nice on, but it was clearly the no lipstick lipstick look. Even if it does look gorgeous, it wasn’t something to get excited about.

Ardency-Inn-Americana-Custom-Coverage-Concentrate

The Primer and Custom Coverage Concentrate was another story. It’s rare when a foundation comes with instructions, but that’s how intense this little bottle is. You can’t use Ardency Inn’s coverage concentrate like your regular foundation because it’s not. You need to use a very small amount with their primer (or your everyday moisturizer). You use one or two pumps, mix it all together, and then apply.

Because you are mixing it with the primer, you get a nice applications and smooth finish. It’s still a very intense coverage. This is more like the kind of foundation they use on photo shoots than you want to be wearing every day. I will probably save it for weddings or big nights on the town.

The other option is to use more moisturizer and less concentrate to give you more of a tinted moisturizer feel than foundation. I think this is a better bet for most. That way it will also be well worth the money because it could last a long time and cover up everything.

Kat Von D Esperanza Eyeshadow Palette Review

KatVonDEsperanzaCover
It’s not like I need more eyeshadow but when it comes to Kat Von D’s eyeshadow palettes I literally have no willpower and the Esperanza palette wasn’t an exception. The cases alone are so pretty I almost want to put them on my wall, but the makeup itself is worth it. This palette is released just in time for Spring and the colours are perfect for the season.

KatVonDEsperanzaInside
Esperanza is a little lighter than most of the palettes in the range with a seafoamy green (Archangel), a pearly peach (Galore) and a matte pink (Placebo). The standout though is Dayglo, Once you put it over another shadow it changes it just a little bit. Even with just 8 shadows in the palette, you have options for way more combinations than you would normally have.

At this rate I’m going to need a separate drawer just for my Kat Von D palettes. Or maybe a coffee table to display them.

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette Review

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette review

I’m not one for large palettes, I find that they usually get buried in a drawer until my other eye shadows and eyeliners and lash curlers and mascara. Even if I love the colours, I always seem to forget about it after a few months. Smashbox has introduced their new Full Exposure Palette and it is staying on the top of my makeup drawer.

Smashbox’s palette is a great option for any girl who wears makeup from the pro to the amateur. This big palette includes seven matte eye shadows and seven shimmery eye shadows in complimentary neutral shades. I love it that all of the hues are neutral enough that I can imagine myself wearing them. It’s not like some palettes where you have a few nice shadows, and then one neon blue that just sits there starting at you daring you to try to wear it. Smashbox has given me a whole set of colours that everyone can master, including the shimmer shadows. There is something for every occasion, even for a day in the office.

The Smashbox palette comes with a few fun bonuses too. First there is an eye shape chart to show you how to apply the eye shadow properly on your face. This makes this palette much less intimidating for more inexperienced makeup wearers.

The final bonus just is mini mascara! I mean does it get any better than getting bonus mascara with your palette?

There might be more buzz for some other makeup palettes, but this is my spring must have.

Julep The Party’s Over Glitter Nail Polish Removal Kit Review

JulepPartysOver
Everyone who wears glitter nail polish knows how difficult it is to remove. I’m not a huge fan of glitter but the few times I’ve worn it, I barely had the patience to deal with it. There are a couple different methods that people swear by online involving foil but when I saw Julep’s Party’s Over kit I decided to give it a try.

The kit comes with 8 regular size nail caps, 2 for your thumbs and 5 packets of 10 mini nail polish remover pads. I was pretty skeptical that it would actually get the glitter off but I went ahead and put a pad and cap on each nail (which gets interesting when one hand is done and you go to do the other) and waited 3 minutes.

After I pulled them all off it looked like I still had glitter stuck to my nails but I realized they were loose enough that I could pull the glitter pieces off with my nail or scrub for a bit with the used pads. My nails weren’t dried out thanks to the aloe infused in the pads.

Even though it’s time consuming and kind of awkward, it’s nice to know there’s a relatively easy way to get glitter polish off.

Lush Cosmetics Most Wanted: Alyssa’s Picks

I’ve been using Lush products since I was in high school, so over 10 years later I’ve pretty much tried everything they make. These are my absolute favourite, can’t live without products from Lush.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner
RosArgan
I was have really dry skin so I was skeptical of using an in shower body lotion but once you rinse this off in the shower you really don’t need any other kind of moisturizer. This has seriously saved my skin during the winter. The rose scent is kind of amazing as well.

Rock Star Soap
RockStarSoap
It smells like vanilla candy and it’s really creamy and moisturizing for hand soap. I’ve been using this for so many years I’ve lost count.

Celestial Moisturizer
CelestialMoisturizer

My face is pretty much a crazy combination of oily and dry depending on the day. This is the first moisturizer I’ve found that balances it out and clears up the dry patches without leaving me greasy.

Happy Happy Joy Joy
HappyHappyJoyJoy

I have fine, wavy, frizzy hair and this conditioner balances it out without leaving it too weighed down. You only need a little, so the smallest bottle lasts a long time. And it makes you want to smell your hair constantly.

Sea Spray
SeaSpray

I love most sea salt hair products but this one is my favourite. Only a couple spritzes and it calms your hair into really nice waves and doesn’t leave them crunchy.

Budget Beauty: Pari Beauty

pari beauty facebook

While I love makeup, I admittedly sometimes have a hard time stomaching the high price tags that come along with the habit of frequenting the beauty aisles. I’m sure that many women sacrifice quality in favour of affordability. Pari Beauty makes it so you don’t have to sacrifice anymore.

Pari Beauty is quality without high price tags. Pari Beauty foundation is just $24, mascara is $15 and lip gloss is $14.

You might think I am joking when I saw that price tag doesn’t determine quality, but it’s true.

The lip gloss is probably the most impressive product I tried in the line. The big, bright, bold colours pop on your lips. They are statement making shades. The lip gloss stays on bright and glossy and doesn’t smudge. The finish when I first applied it seemed too good to be true. When the gloss didn’t come off during my morning coffee, I have to say, I was amazed.

The concealer and face powder are equally as impressive. The concealer is professional grade in my opinion. It is thick and you have to have a light hand with it, but a little is all you need.

Perusing their website, they have so many more products I am interested in trying to see if this quality for less ideal is continued through the entire Pari Beauty line.

Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze & Hi-Light Review

maybelline-face-studio-blush

Maybelline is brightening up Spring with their new Face Studio Master Glaze Blush and Master Hi-Light Blush and Bronzer. I love that Maybelline is offering two different, but equally easy, ways to give my face a little colour early in the season.

I’m instantly drawn to Maybelline’s Master Glaze Blush. There is something about stick blush that gets me excited even though it can go so wrong if used badly. The stick cream blush comes in really vibrant shades that you can imagine looking either amazing or terrifying. Don’t be scared. The stick is soft and creamy, making it easy to apply. The neon shades blend into a natural hue on your cheeks. It gives a dewy pop of colour that is better than my natural blush. My personal favourite is the bright Pink Fever in the vibrant pink because the colour makes me feel young and flirty again.

Next up to get back my summer bronze, we have the Face Studio Mast Hi-Light powder. These palettes have a balance of four shades to give you a bronzed colour that isn’t shimmery. It’s more natural and balanced. There is also a blush version if you prefer a powder to a cream stick, but I like the cream and powder combination. Like most bronzers, you need to apply with a light touch. You don’t want to go from winter pale to dark bronze, because people are going to notice. If you apply a light dusting to your cheeks, forehead and nose those you look like you spent some time on the slopes in sun.

So whether you like a powder or a cream, either way, it’s going to be a rose tinted spring.
