RoC Enydrial Collection

If you live somewhere that suffers through extremely cold, dry winters, even if you don’t already have dry skin you’ll end up with it. My skin already has dryness issues so by the time mid-winter hits my skin is itchy, flaky and generally unbearable. RoC’s Enydrial collection has pretty much saved my skin from the worst of it and it’s made for sensitive skin so it doesn’t cause other issues.
Rich Shower Cream
ROC - ENYDRIAL rich showere cream Flacon pompe_0_1
I love that this comes in a pump and lathers really well. There isn’t a scent (which I normally love) but my skin feels moisturized even before I add lotion.
Moisturising Body Lotion
This isn’t supposed to have a scent either (none of the line is) but there is a really faint one that I actually love. This lotion isn’t nearly as thick as I was expecting but boy does it get the job done. It’s extremely hydrating and you don’t need a lot of it and there’s absolutely no stickiness.
Moisturising Cream
This face cream was the biggest surprise for me. You really don’t need to use a lot and  your face feel so soft and hydrated. I have combination skin that’s almost an equal amount of dry, oily and sensitive and this works perfectly for me.
Repairing Lip Care
roc_p_enydrial_repairing lip care_4_8ml_v2_0
I’m not a huge fan of stick lip balms but this one is fantastic for putting on before you go to bed. It’s pretty thick so I can usually still feel it in the morning and if you have really chapped lips, you might want to try it.
Hand Cream
This hand cream is not only my favourite product in the line, it’s also by far the best hand cream I’ve ever used. It’s glycerin based, so it has a little of that slick feeling at first but it absorbs almost immediately. If I put it on at night, I still feel it most of the next day and it’s healed every dry skin issue I had on my hands, along with scrapes and cuts. I don’t know if my hands would’ve made it through winter without cracking if I hadn’t had this cream.

Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser

Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser
I was already testing out some of Garnier’s Clean+ Sensitive Skin line (review coming soon) when Crowdsocial sent us the Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser to review. This is definitely not your typical makeup remover.
You apply it on dry skin and it goes on like a lotion and the more you rub it in, the more it turns almost oil-like. It’s supposed to take off all kinds of makeup, including waterproof mascara, so I tested it out on some pretty tough makeup; Marc Jacobs Gel Eyeliner, Rimmel’s Apocalips Lipstick and Lancôme’s Grandiôse Mascara.
Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser - During
I have to say it really didn’t look pretty while I was rubbing the lotion in but I could literally see it working and by the end it got all the makeup off when I wiped everything off with a cotton pad.
Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser - After
I was pretty amazed at how much makeup this lotion cleanser removed. It also left my skin feeling really soft. And since it’s for sensitive skin, there was no burning or irritation at all. I only wish the tube opened at the top instead of the bottom because I have some serious spillage every time I open it.

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths
When it comes to cleansing cloths, most of them are all pretty typical. Skyn Iceland’s Glacial Cleansing Cloths are anything but. We’re already obsessed with their Hydro Cool Face Gels so we expected good things from these cloths but we got more than we bargained for. Before you use these cloths you have to rub them together to form a foam. I had never seen that in a face wipe before so I was definitely intrigued.
Glacial Cleansing Cloths Swatches Before
I tried the clothes with regular makeup first and with great results went on to try them on some of my most stubborn makeup. Urban Decay’s Perversion Mascara, Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Rouge Waterproof Lipstick and Benefit’s They’re Real! Push Up Liner. All of these are notorious for being a pain to get off and I’ve never been able to use any kind of wipe to get them off.
Glacial Cleansing Clothes Swatches After
One Glacial Cleansing Cloth got everything off really gently and without any scrubbing. This is actually the only wipe that’s been able to get the MUFE lipstick off at all. You don’t have to rinse off after using these but occasionally I find them a little sticky so I go over with toner.

I knew these wipes were going to be good, but I had no idea how good. These have completely changed how I take off stubborn or waterproof makeup!

St Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse

st tropez bronzing mousse

It’s about that time of winter when I miss my beautiful summer tan. My pasty white skin is starting to make me sad. I opened my drawer to get out the St. Tropez Self Tan Express that I’ve been saving for this very moment.

This new St. Tropez tanning mousse gives you a fast and easy tan at home in anywhere from one to three hours. The premise is that you spread it on, using your applicator mitt, then wait. A simple warm shower afterwards to rinse off the mousse is all you need. It should leave you with a gorgeous tan. It takes anywhere from one hour for a healthy glow to three hours for a dark tan.

Since it’s the middle of winter, I thought it might be weird to just show up at work with a dark tan the next day. I opted for the light healthy glow.

I applied the mousse exactly the same way that you would apply any home self-tanner. If you’ve never done it before, please don’t be scared! I know when you think. You are probably picturing those scary orange ladies who have gone mad at the tanning salon, but it’s not like that at all. Using the mitt and the mousse is so easy. You just moisturize and spread it on. It’s easy to get an even application. You really don’t need to worry about streaks. As long as you are sensible about it, you aren’t going to smear yourself all over with mousse. It’s so easy! Then you let it dry for a few seconds and get dressed!

Spend the next hour (or three) going about your day as usual. Go grocery shopping, watch some Netflix, read a book, or whatever other activity you feel like doing. I wouldn’t recommend doing anything that would make you sweaty or going clothes shopping, but otherwise you can live your life like normal.

Be sure to be near a shower within three hours though. You just have to hop in the shower and rinse it off within that time frame. I was pre-warned that even though it might not look very dark, the formula keeps working on your skin after you rinse it off. DON’T leave it on longer thinking it will give you an even better tan!

Like I said, I chose to rinse after one hour. My skin afterwards wasn’t dark and tanned. It was just enough to get rid of that winter white. It made me feel healthy looking again. If I did it again, I might go a bit longer to get a tan instead of just a glow. It goes to show though that anyone can get the perfect colour for themselves at home.

I was already a huge fan of St. Tropez, but now I can be excited to tell everyone not just how great it is, but also how easy!

Nivea Essentials Sensitive Skin Collection

Nivea Sensitive Line
I’ve used Nivea quite a bit in the past, mostly when I was in high school but then my skin changed and what I was using before no longer worked quite as well. Now my skin has changed again and it’s combination, pretty sensitive and I have a ton of redness. So I was really happy when Nivea introduced a line for sensitive skin and I had the opportunity to try it.

The line has a Sensitive Day Care Moisturizer, a Sensitive Night Care Moisturizer and a Sensitive 3-In-1 Micellar Cleansing Water. The Day Care for me is just ok, it’s a little bit lighter than I’d like but at the same time doesn’t irritate my skin at all and does the job.

The Night Care on the other hand is almost like a cream-balm and really makes my skin feel amazing. It moisturizes so well that I don’t feel like I need to reapply a few hours later. I’ve been using this in both the morning and night and it never feels too heavy.

The star of this line though is the Micellar Water. It literally gets every drop of makeup off without any tugging. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, anything really just comes off with one swipe of the water on a cotton pad. It doesn’t cause any irritation or leave any redness which I’ve come to expect from most makeup removers. The only issue I’ve had was using too much on a cotton pad and then drowning my eyes with it, that caused a little stinging but still not as much as other brands.

With my skin being so dry, flaky and irritated, especially in winter months, I’ve found the combination of Nivea’s Sensitive Night Care and 3-In-1 Micellar water hard to beat.

B. Kamins Clear Skin Product Review

I have started the New Year with some new skin clearing products that can hopefully clear up all of that holiday stress induced bad skin.

b kamins blemish gel

The B Kamins Blemish Gel was my first stop. It has that strong chemical scent that you expect from a strong blemish fighting gel. I applied it to my blemishes for a few days and started to clear up my skin quickly. Acne creams tend to dry out my skin, but this one wasn’t so bad.

b kamins corrective primer

I followed this up by adding the Corrective Primer and Corrective Mattifier to my morning routine. I always wonder if it will help my skin layering on so many products. Both of these gels come out of the pump pretty thick, but once you have them on, you won’t worry about it anymore. Both the primer and mattifier combine to make my skin look amazing. Say goodbye to shine and say goodbye to pores. You don’t need to struggle with acne to appreciate having matte pore-free skin!

Cetaphil DermaControl Review + Giveaway

My New Year’s resolution is to take better care of my skin and a big part of that is using a lot more skin care products than I do right now. So we’ve teamed up with Canadian Beauty Bloggers and Cetaphil for their Think Zinc campaign. We’re giving away a set of Cetaphil’s DermaControl Oil Control Foam Face Wash and Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30.
Cetaphil Dermacontrol
Both these products are aimed at combination, oily or blemish-prone skin and have a Zinc Complex that absorbs oil and shine while still leaving your skin hydrated. I fall under the combination category but my skin is a lot more dry than oily in the winter so I was a little scared to try something made for much oilier skin.

Luckily, I really didn’t have to worry. The Foam Face Wash isn’t too thick a foam and it’s really gentle. I didn’t have any redness and it even got some pretty stubborn makeup off. My skin did feel a tiny bit tight after washing my face but not nearly as much as I expected. The Oil Control Moisturizer is really light and you don’t need a lot. It left my skin feeling amazingly soft and all the tightness from washing my face was gone instantly. This moisturizer also leaves a matte look to your skin so you don’t have that greasy moisturizer look.

I can’t wait to use this set in the summer when my skin is much oilier and harder to control.
You can find more information on Cetaphil’s DermaControl here.

Lush Holiday 2014

Lush Holiday 2014
The holiday line from Lush usually have my favourite products and this year is no exception. We received a good mix of what the holiday collection offers but there are still so many options that we’re eyeing. I’m pretty sure Lush offers a bigger holiday collection than anyone else.
Buche de Noel
Lush Buche De Noel Open
Buche de Noel is by far my favourite Lush product. I pretty much count down to the holiday announcement to make sure it’ll be around each year. The ingredients for this cleanser read more like a baking list with ground almonds, mandarins and cranberries but this one goes on your face instead of in it. It’s really gentle, really exfoliating and makes my skin glow without drying it out. I wish they had this one all year since it expires pretty quickly.
Secret Santa Gift
Lush Secret Santa Open
This is a great stocking stuffer or you know, a secret santa gift. It includes a Honey I Washed The Kids soap and a Father Christmas Bath Bomb (it smells like Snow Fairy) that basically sums up two of the sweetest and most adored Lush scents. This is great for kids, adults, anyone who likes baths. Your options are wide open with this one.
Winter Garden Gift
Lush Winter Garden Open
Winter Garden also includes two of my most favourite Lush products: Rose Jam Shower Gel (another holiday only product that I wish they’d carry all year) and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. The rose scented combination of these two are a shower match made in heaven. Winter Garden also includes the almont scented holiday Snowcake soap, Vanilla Puff Dusting Powder and an Ultrabalm Body Balm which is literally good for everything, including fixing your cuticles. This is a perfect gift to pamper yourself or someone else with.

This list isn’t even a fraction of what Lush has in their holiday line but it’s a pretty good representation of how great a selection they have. There quite a few others I have on my wishlist and I can’t wait to try more out. Lush traditionally has a great sale on the holiday collection starting the day after Christmas and I’m hoping this year that tradition continues.

Skin Care 101 with Dermalogica’s Holly Sherrard

Dermalogica is one of our favourite skin care brands but we had a few questions, so we had a skin care chat with Dermalogica’s Education Manager, Holly Sherrard.
Holly Sherrard Dermalogica
Can you remember your first experience with skin care?
I was six or eight years old and my aunt let me use her products on my skin and hers. I cleansed her skin, applied toner and then finished with a makeup application then repeated all these steps on my skin. I still remember how our skin was glowing after the application and my mom has a picture of this. Products have changed drastically from 30 years ago and we now have more advanced formulations with botanicals and peptides to benefit our skin. I have always loved teaching and skin care so working with Dermalogica is the perfect marriage for my passions.
What sets Dermalogica apart from other skin care companies?
Dermalogica sets an education standard of excellence for all skin care professionals. We have always focused on education first not only for the skin therapist but also consumers. We are the number one professional skin care company worldwide and are leaders with ingredients and techniques to bring professional success to skin therapists around the globe.
What is the best way for someone to determine which skin care products are right for them?
The best way to determine which products are right for the skin is to seek advice from a skin care professional. Face Mapping® skin analysis by Dermalogica is a great way to analyze the skin and get targeted results. Products are not meant to be one-size-fits-all, customization is key for healthy skin.
With so many sunscreen options and sunscreen added to makeup, does layering actually do anything and are we putting enough sunscreen on our faces?
The Canadian Cancer Society recommends to apply a teaspoon of product to the face for adequate protection however most people use much less. By layering SPF, a person increases their protection factor. Start out with a moisturizer and sunscreen, follow with a primer with SPF and finish with a foundation that also includes an SPF.
Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer
How is the new Redness Relief primer different from other primers?
Redness Relief Primer SPF20 is a calming and soothing treatment product to neutralize, relieve and defend against inflammation and irritation induced by skin sensitivity. Natural botanical extracts provide a sheer green tint to counter redness and physical sunscreens protect from UV. Dermalogica’s exclusive UltraCalming™ complex of oat extracts, ginger and bisabolol treat skin sensitivity. It’s all combined together in a silicone-based product which gives a velvety feel and provides a perfect canvas for makeup application.
Are there certain ingredients we should look for in skin care?
Are they any we should completely avoid? Peptides come in all shapes and sizes and can treat various skin conditions from inflammation and acne to aging and pigmentation. Botanicals may be an ingredient choice for people who are looking to go the more natural route. A combination of both science and nature leads to excellent products. The key to finding great ingredients is to use skin care products from a company that backs their claims by unbiased, scientific research. The number one ingredient to avoid is artificial fragrance – it can lead to skin sensitivity and contact dermatitis.
What do you consider skin care essentials?
I have two small children and very little time to get ready in the morning so multipurpose products are the staple in my kit. Cleanser, toner, moisturizer with SPF then primer with SPF. I only use foundation for special occasions so Redness Relief Primer SPF20 is my go-to for a flawless complexion with little makeup.
Is there a product you’re completely obsessed with right now?
Redness Relief Primer SPF20. I couldn’t live without Skin Perfect Primer SPF30 when we launched it a few years ago however I fell in love with Redness Relief Primer SPF20 last May when I experienced it at our Global Education Conference. The velvety finish keeps my skin feeling soft, the sheer green tint diffuses the redness in my skin and the botanicals treat the sensitivity I experience from my allergies. It is amazing to see the difference in the texture and the even tone of my skin with only one application.

The rose smell is so delicious you’re going to want to use it constantly.

fresh Rose Hydrating Gel Cream
If you need a lighter moisturizer for summer, this gel cream from fresh. is perfect. It’s really light but keeps your skin really hydrated. It also goes really well with the Jurlique mist.
