Spring Face Masks Most Wanted – Steph Tries

Scrub off winter with one of these face masks that will give your skin a great start to spring!

Nip + Fab Masks

I tried both the Bee Sting Lifting Mask and Dragon’s Blood Fix Mask. The names sound cool and intense, but these masks were quite soft on my skin. I didn’t really like the gel texture of both face masks.  I prefer cream masks that dry while you wear them, but these stay moist the whole time. They don’t give you that tingly clean feeling while you are waiting. The Bee Sting mask had a bit of a tingle, but nothing like I expected. When I rinsed them off, my face looked a bit refreshed, but not super clean like some other masks. While these masks were good, the names got my expectations way too high. Instead I got a regular gel face mask.

Caudalie Moisturizing Mask

Did your skin take a beating from the cold winter? If you need moisture, than this mask is going to be exactly what you need. After using this soft mask, my face has never ever felt so moisturized. It felt soft and plump. Even a few days after using the mask I could still feel the dewy effects. This is exactly what you need to shake off winter.

Proactiv Skin Purifying Mask

The transition to spring has been tough on my skin, so I followed in the footsteps of so many celebrity spokespeople with this Proactiv mask. This is a strong mask for deep cleaning. It goes on thick. Really thick! It dries well and gives you are great scrub when you wash it off. It seemed it tighten up my pores very well and brought out some acne that was lying under the surface. In the end though my face feels best and I can’t wait to keep using it!

Lush Mask Of Magnaminty Face And Body Mask

This Lush mask has everything I want in a mask. It is thick with those exfoliating bits (in this case they are aduki beans) to help scrub everything clean. It dries on your skin to help pull everything out of your pores with a mix of peppermint and clay. It even has ingredients to help calm redness. It’s tough without being overpowering. Unlike some other Lush masks, you don’t even have to keep this one in the fridge. Of all of the masks, this is the one that I will be keeping close at hand!

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado Puffin
One of the things I’ve really started to look at when I’m buying products is how environmentally conscious the company is and how much they give back. Kiehl’s consistantly gives back with their products more than most. We covered their limited edition holiday products and now it’s their eye cream that pulling double duty.

The Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado has a limited edition version this month and 100% of the net profits will go to adopt 300 puffins as part of the Canadian Wildlife Federation Adopt A Species program.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado Puffin OpenI happened to need a new eye cream and I’m always a fan of buying charity products instead of asking for them to review, so I headed to my local Kiehl’s and picked one up. I’ve been told numerous times that Kiehl’s makes great eye cream and now I can happily confirm it. This cream is super hydrating and really refreshing on my skin and you really need a tiny amount. I can still feel it hours after applying, but in a good way.

I would’ve eventually tried this eye cream but I’m happy I got the chance to support some puffins while I’m taking care of my skin. I can’t wait to see who Kiehl’s teams up with next. This eye cream is only available while supplies last, so get one while you can.

New Products To Keep In Your Shower This Spring

Spring is a time to update your bath products. Put away the winter products for these fresh spring picks:

olay fresh effects

Olay Fresh Effects Bead Me Up Exfoliating Cleanser

I love using an exfoliating face wash every time I clean my face, but I know that it’s not really good for my skin. This exfoliator is gentle enough to be used as a daily cleanser, but still gives you a good scrub.

Clear Active Damage Resist Shampoo & Conditioner

This affordable shampoo and conditioner doesn’t just fight dandruff, but also nourishes your skin so that you have stronger locks. While I was using it, I wasn’t overwhelmingly impressed. This was ok, but nothing crazy. It was only after I stopped using it that I noticed a difference. My hair wasn’t as soft and easy to manage as it once was.

lotus aroma body wash

Lotus Aroma Bath & Body Wash

I love body wash that fills the bathroom with rich smells. I’m not even very particular in what the smells are. As long as it mixes with the steam to create a spa like feel, I am in. Lotus Aroma uses natural essential oils to create some of the strongest scented body wash I’ve had the pleasure of using. Be warned that these are very strong, but if you are into strong smells like me, then prepare for some pampering.

john masters organic

John Masters Organics Body Scrubs

Freshen up and exfoliate the skin all over the rest of your body with these new organic scrubs. There are three scents ‘fresh’ (lemon and lime), ‘refreshing’ (lavender and palmarosa) and ‘sweet’ (raspberry and orange). The scents aren’t as sweet or powerful as you might expect, but that doesn’t make them any less effective. The mixture of sugars and natural oils and butters make these scrubs tough on skin, but also highly moisturizing. It’s great for washing away winter skin.
Nivea In-Shower Body Milk

If you’re lazy with body lotion, Nivea’s In-Shower Body Milk makes things a lot easier. Just apply in the shower after you’re done with soap, rinse off and you’re done. You don’t really notice how hydrated your skin is until you’re dry and for something to work this well in such a short amount of time is amazing. It comes in three different types, but the Nourishing for very dry skin is my favourite.

Spring Cleansers Most Wanted

Our skin changes with the weather and now that we’re starting to leave the coldness of winter and head into spring, we’re ready for some new skin care. These are our Most Wanted cleansers for spring.
Vichy Purete Thermale 3in1
This 3in1 cleansing milk for sensitive skin does everything from take off makeup to tone your skin and all the things in between. It’s super light and non greasy and you don’t have to rinse. There’s an added bonus of it not stinging your eyes and it smells amazing.
L’Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil
L'occitane shea cleansing oil
This cleansing oil turns milky when you add water and it leaves your skin feeling clean and so hydrated that you almost want to skip moisturizer. I’m pretty sure this one is limited edition, so grab it while you can find it.
Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-To-Oil Cleanser
Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-To-Oil Cleanser
I would never have called washing my face fun before, but this makeup melt is actually as close as I would get. You apply it to your face as a gel and watch as it turns into an oil and literally melts your makeup right off. This is crazy effective, especially on black eyeliner and mascara and it’s kind of satisfying to watch it work.
Garnier Clean + Gentle Clarifying Cleansing Gel
Garnier Clean + Gentle Clarifying Cleansing Gel
We already reviewed the Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser and we love this gel just as much. If you’re looking for any kind of lather, you won’t find it here. But it left my sensitive skin feeling really clean and not at all dried out. I even noticed a huge difference in redness.

RoC Enydrial Collection

If you live somewhere that suffers through extremely cold, dry winters, even if you don’t already have dry skin you’ll end up with it. My skin already has dryness issues so by the time mid-winter hits my skin is itchy, flaky and generally unbearable. RoC’s Enydrial collection has pretty much saved my skin from the worst of it and it’s made for sensitive skin so it doesn’t cause other issues.
Rich Shower Cream
ROC - ENYDRIAL rich showere cream Flacon pompe_0_1
I love that this comes in a pump and lathers really well. There isn’t a scent (which I normally love) but my skin feels moisturized even before I add lotion.
Moisturising Body Lotion
This isn’t supposed to have a scent either (none of the line is) but there is a really faint one that I actually love. This lotion isn’t nearly as thick as I was expecting but boy does it get the job done. It’s extremely hydrating and you don’t need a lot of it and there’s absolutely no stickiness.
Moisturising Cream
This face cream was the biggest surprise for me. You really don’t need to use a lot and  your face feel so soft and hydrated. I have combination skin that’s almost an equal amount of dry, oily and sensitive and this works perfectly for me.
Repairing Lip Care
roc_p_enydrial_repairing lip care_4_8ml_v2_0
I’m not a huge fan of stick lip balms but this one is fantastic for putting on before you go to bed. It’s pretty thick so I can usually still feel it in the morning and if you have really chapped lips, you might want to try it.
Hand Cream
This hand cream is not only my favourite product in the line, it’s also by far the best hand cream I’ve ever used. It’s glycerin based, so it has a little of that slick feeling at first but it absorbs almost immediately. If I put it on at night, I still feel it most of the next day and it’s healed every dry skin issue I had on my hands, along with scrapes and cuts. I don’t know if my hands would’ve made it through winter without cracking if I hadn’t had this cream.

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy Body Care

The Body Shop’s White Musk has been one of my favourite scents since high school. I may have grown up and my tastes got a little more luxurious, but I still have a bottle of White Musk on my perfume table alongside all of the designer bottles. Ok, I actually have two bottles because I also have the Libertine version.

I never thought that smell would be replaced for me, but the new Smoky Poppy line is ready to over throw my old favourite.

This smell is amazing! I had no idea that I loved the smell of poppies. I didn’t even know what real poppies smelled like. I don’t know if this is what poppies smell like. This is a rich, musky, smoky and almost spicy smell. It’s so rich and warm that I want to wrap myself up in it.

I’ve been obsessed with every product in the line that I have. Obviously the Eau De Toilette is the piece de resistance.

The other product that is very cool is the Poppy Seed Body Scrub. It uses real poppy seeds to exfoliate your skin. Unlike some other scrubs from The Body Shop it doesn’t leave a weird film on my skin. It makes me feel smooth and moisturized!

After writing this review I found out that the Smoky Poppy is a limited edition collection. I am crying on the inside. If you happen to be heading to The Body Shop, pick me up a few extra bottles and send them c/o Makeup Most Wanted because I am going to need to stock up.

Men’s Most Wanted: Axe White Label

axe white label

I’m not the only one in my house who is getting a growing amount of products. I like to share the wealth with the man in my life. He’s been a regular Axe user since the line first launched. Axe products are a staple in the house. I got him the full line of the new Axe White Label Night to test out for that reason.

He described the smell of the Night line, which is a mixture of grapefruit, lavender, cedarwood and praline, as clean and manly. That’s surprising given the description. You might not think that of something containing lavender. He wasn’t surprised though, he said when he heard of the scents it actually made perfect sense.

He’s not a huge fan of antiperspirant in general, so let’s skip over that product. He did say that he hadn’t been feeling sweaty lately, so I will take that as a good sign. That’s the best you are going to get out of him on that product.

He really likes both the Shampoo + Conditioner combo and the Body Wash. The gel is a cool purple colour. He says the smell is great, but not too strong. It is great for getting him perfectly clean after a really long and messy day at work.

It’s hard to get a thumbs up on shower products from this guy and Axe’s new White Label got it!

Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser

Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser
I was already testing out some of Garnier’s Clean+ Sensitive Skin line (review coming soon) when Crowdsocial sent us the Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser to review. This is definitely not your typical makeup remover.
You apply it on dry skin and it goes on like a lotion and the more you rub it in, the more it turns almost oil-like. It’s supposed to take off all kinds of makeup, including waterproof mascara, so I tested it out on some pretty tough makeup; Marc Jacobs Gel Eyeliner, Rimmel’s Apocalips Lipstick and Lancôme’s Grandiôse Mascara.
Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser - During
I have to say it really didn’t look pretty while I was rubbing the lotion in but I could literally see it working and by the end it got all the makeup off when I wiped everything off with a cotton pad.
Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser - After
I was pretty amazed at how much makeup this lotion cleanser removed. It also left my skin feeling really soft. And since it’s for sensitive skin, there was no burning or irritation at all. I only wish the tube opened at the top instead of the bottom because I have some serious spillage every time I open it.

Dove Dry Spray

Spray deodorant has gotten a bad reputation. I will admit it; even I didn’t have a great opinion on aerosol deodorants. I had heard such good things about the Dove Dry Spray that I needed to try it!

I had to say I am so impressed. My whole opinion on spray deodorants has done total 360! The Dove Dry Spray is pretty remarkable.

First of all, I love the smell. I got the Cool Essentials cucumber scent. It’s so nice after a lifetime of baby powder and sweet fruity and floral deodorants. It has a light refreshing scent. It doesn’t linger either. I hate it when all I can smell all day is my deodorant. I’m glad it’s working, but I have a shelf of perfume that I would rather smell!

Like all of those spray deodorants that you remember, this one does spray fast when you press the button. It’s a strong aerosol, so be ready. I remember the sprays of yesteryear being too strong though. I remember that you couldn’t hold it too close to your skin or it would hurt. I also remember that you couldn’t apply it after you shaved without getting a very unpleasant surprise. Those fears are gone, so you can spray with confidence. I am still a bit nervous when I press the button, but I am quickly getting over it.

It leaves my skin feels so clean and fresh and dry. There is no dampness or wetness at all. It somehow makes me feel more confident. I’m not at all worried about wetness or sweating. My skin in my underarms feels great and soft.

I know that it says that it lasts for 48 hours, but I don’t know if I trust it that much. I have been reapplying it every day. That said I have felt confident enough to work all day and play sports in the evening with this spray deodorant, so that is saying something! Dove is all about feeling beautiful in your own skin and I never thought that a simple deodorant could make me feel more confident, but they have done it!

Face Moisturizer Most Wanted

Your hands aren’t the only things that get dry and tight during the winter. Give your face some needed moisture with these three new moisturizers.

skyn iceland cloud cream

Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cream

Skyn Iceland had one of my favourite products of last year, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I wanted to try their new moisturizer.  This moisturizer is meant to smooth and soothe the skin, hydrate and fix environmental stresses.

The smell and texture of this cream are a little strange, but don’t let that turn you off. The smell is a slightly sour lemon smell. It’s not strong, but it is there. The texture is so weird that it’s almost off putting. It’s like a big ball of jelly. It wiggles and stayed together like a solid cloud.

Once you get it out, it’s a really nice moisturizer. It has a cooling effect on the skin that is fresh. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin. It leaves my face feeling refreshed and alert at any time.

vichy moisturizer

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream

If you need something rich and thick, Vichy’s Aqualia moisturizer is exactly what your skin needs. I don’t usually have dry skin year round. So, while I loved the light smell and texture, this moisturizer was a bit too heavy duty for my face. It actually makes me wish that I had dry skin, so that I could appreciate this line for everything it is offering.

olay moisturizer

Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream

My favourite of the bunch, the moisturizer that is just right, is the Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream Moisturizer.  It has a soft powdery smell that I want my skin to smell like. It makes my face feel soft and smooth.
