Vichy Idéalia Day Care Smoothing And Illuminating Cream

Idéalia Day Care Tub
Around six months ago I got to try Vichy’s Idéalia line and I was instantly in love with it. I’m still using the whole line and I’m on my second tub of Skin Sleep. I’m not someone who uses one skin care line from start to finish. I like to mix and match my products to what suits my skin the best or to what I’m in the mood for. But if I wanted to stick to one line exclusively, Idéalia is definitely missing some core products. While Vichy does carry other cleansers and toners, there aren’t any for Idéalia. But now there’s a day moisturizer.
Idéalia Day Care Inside
I haven’t had Idéalia Day Care that long so I can’t really talk about long term effects, but the short term ones have been pretty fantastic. From the first time I used it I noticed my combination skin, that’s been extremely dried out by winter, was hydrated right away and stayed that way all day.

Idéalia Day Care has Kombucha from black tea and Vitamin E among it’s good for you ingredients and is supposed to address fine lines and pores while making your skin radiant. The radiance comes right away. My skin has been a lot more glowy (for lack of a better word) than usual. I don’t have a ton of fine lines so I can’t speak to how that part is going and while I haven’t noticed a major difference in my pores, I really haven’t been using it long enough to see real results but I have good expectations.

This cream is light enough for a day cream but strong enough to use at night if you wanted to. It also has the same delicious scent as Skin Sleep, which makes me really happy. Idéalia Day Care is a perfect addition to the Idéalia line. I’m just hoping they keep adding to this collection because this has quickly become of my staple skin care lines.

Foreo Deep Cleansing Essentials
Foreo Deep Cleansing Essentials
Invest in your (or someone you love’s) skin care this holiday season with this Foreo set. I have never been a big fan of face cleansing tools and brushes and devices. I think that their hype overvalues them. That makes my support of the Foreo mean so much more. A lot of products tout that it’s like a spa facial at home. After washing with the Foreo, it really does feel like a spa facial at home! My skin feels refreshed and totally clean. It isn’t tough. I’m sure it’s just as nice on sensitive skin, as it is on my tough exterior. There is a smoother Day Cleanser and an exfolitating Night Cleanser to give you an all-day glow.

Fall’s Must Have Face Oils

Oils aren’t new to the beauty aisle, but somehow face oils became a silent trend to the market. Many companies are now releasing oils based moisturizers and cleansers. As someone with fairly oily skin to begin with, this wasn’t a trend I was excited about. I tried four very different oils to see if this trend could win me over!

Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil

Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil

This treatment oil is part moisturizer and part serum for serious dry skin. You only need a few drops of this oil to cover your whole face. I read some reviews that said that this oil was a bit harsh on people’s skin. While I have tough skin and didn’t see that as a big problem, this treatment oil did make my face a bit red when I applied it. It faded really quickly though. This oil is serious on its moisturizing properties though. I would only recommend it for the very driest of faces. Getting it in the summer, when my skin is normally oilier wasn’t great, it was just too much. It you have a problem with very dry skin, especially in the winter, this is the oil for you!

Leaves Of Trees Facial Cleansing Oils

Leaves Of Trees Facial Cleansing Oils

For a softer and more moisturizing way to get clean skin this winter, there are cleansing oils too! All natural company Leaves Of Trees has an organic cleansing oil that is filled with lovely natural ingredients like argan and rosehip that get me all excited! The smell of this oil is really strong! If you are sensitive to that kind of thing, be warned. This cleansing oil, like many oil products, is perfect for sensitive and dry skin. This oil gives you a very light clean that leaves your skin feeling moisturized and not at all dried out like some cleaners.

Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Oil

Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Oil

Oils can also be a new alternative to your daily moisturizer. This super affordable Skyn Iceland oil  promises to hydrate and repair gently. My skin is sometime oily, so an oil based moisturizer was worrisome. I didn’t want to add oil on top of oil. This Arctic Face Oil is actually quite light. I would recommend leaving some time for it to absorb before applying any makeup because it does take longer to dry. Otherwise though, my face felt really nice after wearing this oil.

Biotherm Balm-To-Oil Deep Cleanser & Makeup Remover

Biotherm Balm-To-Oil Deep Cleanser & Makeup Remover

This is my favourite of all of the oils that I tried. This cleanser comes in a balm consistency with little smell and just a simple creamy texture. As you massage it into your dry face, it transforms into silky oil that removes dirt and all makeup. It’s so light on your skin. Add a little water and it turns into a milky cleanser that you can rinse away easily. It doesn’t leave you with any greasy feeling on your face. It left me with all of the benefits of oil cleansers and moisturizers, while also acting as something really unique to the market!

L’Occitane Divine Cream Mask

L'Occitane Divine Cream Mask Box
We’ve been using a ton of masks lately and while we like most of them, it takes a lot to get one to stand out. L’Occitane has completely upped the mask game with the newest addition to their Divine line, the Divine Cream Mask. The mask comes with a little spoon so you don’t have to stick your fingers in the jar and a 24-carat gold applicator inspired by the immortelle flower which is the base of the mask.
L'Occitane Divine Cream Mask + Applicator
You can use the mask as either a moisturizer or a mask experience. If you choose the mask experience, there’s a lot of steps to follow and you use the applicator. It basically turns it into a facial you can do at home but the instructions were really confusing to me at first. Luckily I found a video online to make things a little easier to understand, it’s at the bottom of this post.

While I love the idea of having a ritual to follow while using the mask, I don’t generally have the patience to do it that way very often. I’ve been using the mask for the most part as a moisturizer and sometimes as a regular mask without the applicator. Either way, the results have been fantastic. My skin is much more hydrated and I’ve noticed I look a lot more rested the next morning. There’s a post about the rest of the Divine line coming up and this cream mask is a good representation of how fantastic it is.

Lush New Fresh Face Masks

Lush Face Masks Fall '15
I’ve been using Lush’s fresh face masks for years and they don’t add new ones very often so I was thrilled when they announced not one but three brand new masks. You can normally only buy Lush’s masks in-store because they have to be refrigerated but Cup O’Coffee is available online and can be kept on the counter. It also has a much longer shelf life. Rosy Cheeks and Don’t Look At Me are both the typical, refrigerated type.
Don’t Look At Me
Lush Don't Look At Me
At first look, the colour of Don’t Look At Me is gorgeous. If you’re a fan of Ocean Salt, this is almost a mask version. It has a little bit of the same scent but actually smells more like Fruit Loops. Don’t Look At Me is good for normal to oily skin and the lemon in it is great for dark spots.
Cup O’Coffee
Lush Cup O' Coffee
I live off of coffee, so a mask that’s made of it? Yes please! This scrubby mask is good for your face and body and while Ocean Salt turns my skin bright red, this one is a little more gentle. The clay base does harden and you get a good scrub when you take it off. Unfortunately one of the scents in it caused me to have a couple sneezing fits, so I wasn’t able to keep it on long but I still got great results after two minutes.
Rosy Cheeks
Lush Rosy Cheeks
My all time favourite scent from Lush is of the Ro’s Argan, Rose Jam variety and Rosy Cheeks smells exactly the same. I have a tendency to use my Lush masks while I’m in the shower and when I use this one with my other rose products the shower smells amazing. This calamine based mask would work great with Fresh Farmacy and is great for my sensitive, combination skin. It dried out the oilier parts of my skin but didn’t leave the rest feeling tight and dried out. This has quickly replaced Oatifix as my favourite Lush mask. Too bad everytime I’ve tried to buy another one it’s been sold out.

There was already a Lush mask for every skin type but these are fantastic new additions to an already great lineup. If you can get to a Lush store you might want to pick one or more of these up. And try layering Cup O’Coffee over Rosy Cheeks, it’s amazing.

Vichy Normaderm Cleanser & BB Cream

Normaderm-Cleansing Mattifying Foam

I’ve tried Vichy’s whole Normaderm line before, but these two new additions really take this line to the next level.

I love this line because it doesn’t make me feel crazy for still having acne in my 30’s. So many other products are targeted just for teens. I feel silly using them now. Vichy’s Normaderm line makes dealing with adult acne seem like any other skin care issue anyone might have. That’s why I initially fell in love with the line. It’s products like the new Cleansing Mattifying Foam and BB Clear Beauty Balm that keep me coming back for more.

vichy BB Cream

This cleaner makes my skin feel clean and dry. All of those oily parts are back to normal again. Meanwhile the Vichy BB Cream has great coverage, while also fighting acne.

I always worry that this type of BB cream will be too light or too heavy. I worry that it’s not made with both medicinal and makeup purposes in mind. Vichy has it all covered! Honestly my skin looked amazing after just a week of using this line. I stopped using it for a while and it was like you could hear my face crying out wanting it back.

Dr. Scholl’s Express Pedi Foot Smoother

Dr Scholls Express Pedi Foot Smoother

I have tried hundreds of these types of at-home foot smoother devices over my years. This Dr. Scholl’s Express Pedi Foot Smoother is the first one that I would really tell you to buy!

Since I don’t go for pedicures, (gasp, I know) I am always looking for different devices and treatments to use on my feet at-home. I’ve seen a million scrub brushes that look identical to the Dr. Scholl’s Smoother. They all have a similar handle with a textured wheel that spins quickly. The idea is to scrub the dry and dead skin off your feet leaving you with smooth soles.

Until now I didn’t think this type of tool even worked. There were always a million flaws with these things. They would be awkward to hold, the brush would be too weak, or too strong, or whatever, but there was always an issue. Dr. Scholl’s has shown me how the Express Pedi Foot Soother is supposed to work.

This little tool is just the right size to easily use on your foot to get at all of those rough spots. It is going at just the right speed. It doesn’t stop or get jammed up when it touches your skin like some of the weaker systems I’ve used. You don’t need to press down really hard to get results.

This device really smoothes the soles of your feet. My feet were so smooth I felt like I could slide across the floor. My feet feel great! It does leave you with some foot ‘dust’ if you want to call it that. Clean up is so easy though.

Now I don’t have to worry about not going for a pedicure, because I can do it all at home!

Noome Anti-Aging Motion Device

noome deviceI’ve seen a lot of weird skin care and anti-aging devices over the years, but the Noome Anti-Aging Device might be the most interesting one that I have ever had the pleasure of actually trying myself.

This battery operated device is supposed to help skin regain natural cushion, radiance and stimulate cell renewal. It should also smooth lines, increase collagen production, soothe facial strain, brighten complexion and help your overall skin care routine. Phew! There is no denying that evoDerma is promising a lot from one little device.

The white handle is topped with a hard rubber suction cup type end. There is a firm or soft option depending on your personal preference. When you turn it on, the end contracts and sucks in repeatedly. You’re supposed to move it over your face slowly in different patterns, letting the cup suction your skin. The sensation is a bit funny. It’s not hard or painful, but it does pull at your skin. It kind of reminded me of those electric pads that they sell in late night infomercials for weight loss. It makes your skin pull and contract in funny ways. If you have thin skin, you might not want to try the Noome. It works best on full, thicker skin that it can suck up.

I used the Noome device a number of times, and I don’t know if it really works as it claims. The idea seems so simple. It’s almost pulling the wrinkles out of your skin. It’s the same idea as knocking a dent out of a car. You just suck the wrinkles off your face. That sounds way too good to be true. I will have to keep using it for a long time before I could give a truly honest account of whether it works.

We did find a great practical use for the Noome. It works great for headaches. The suction is like a little massage for tense face muscles. It relaxes your face and relieves the headache.

Honestly, I don’t know if I would recommend the Noome to readers. I feel like people who would want to try this tool, will try it regardless. Those who don’t believe it will work, won’t. Are you ready to give it a try?

Extend Your Summer Tan With Dr. Hauschka

I am closing out the summer with two new products form Dr. Hauschka that are going to help me (and you) extend that summer tan as long as possible.

dr hauschka tinted cream

First I have the Dr. Hauschka Tinted Day Cream. This is a thick moisturizer that is perfect for moving into cold fall weather. This moisturizer is thick! It smells a little bit medicinal, which lets me know that this is serious business. A little goes a long way so be light handed when you are using this moisturizer.

Unlike some other tinted moisturizers, this one is very tinted. It isn’t so dark that is could replace your foundation, but it is great to keep some of that colour. You need to carefully plan what other makeup you will wear with this moisturizer. Since it is heavy, I would recommend making everything else very light. I have just been wearing this Dr. Hauschka Tinted Moisturizer and a finishing powder over top for a great look. It’s not done up to the nines, but it’s clean and fresh faced with a nice glow and great moisture.

dr hauschka bronzing tint

Next on the docket for the rest of my body is the Dr. Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint. Mix this tinted liquid with your regular moisturizer and apply on your body to extend that summer tan. I tried it with a wide variety of different moisturizers for both my face and body to see whether it worked no matter what I mixed it with any every time I had the same results.

I love non-committal bronzed look that I can get with this tint. I’ve been open here about my struggles with fake tans in the past, but this tint lets me control the colour that I’m getting. The tint looks dark when it comes out, but you cut it with your moisturizer so that it will work with any skin tone. I like that I can make it a bit darker on my arms, but mix up a new batch for my face. I made it light enough that it looked natural. You don’t even need a full pump to get a gorgeous tan.  As long as you use it cautiously, you can have a great tan through the whole winter.
