Sweetease Waxing Kits

I am the worst at keeping regular salon appointments. It doesn’t matter if it’s a hair or waxing appointment. I am always a few weeks later than I should be. I save up my Sweetease Waxing Kits in case of emergency.  Sweetease has developed these little easy to use waxing kits for your legs, face and bikini area at home.

Using a Sweetease Waxing Kit is as easy as it sounds. The first step is to warm a strip between your hands. Don’t skimp on the warming time. You want to be sure that it’s very warm so the wax sticks. I found it helpful to sit on the strips that I wasn’t using yet to start warming them up early.
Sweetease Leg Waxing Kit
Next peel apart the wax strips slowly. If they aren’t warm enough, you won’t be able to get them apart. You will smell the delicious vanilla scent when you peel them apart.

Now press on the strips in the direction of the hair growth.

Make sure that they are good and stuck!  And rip them off quickly in the opposite direction quickly, just like they do in the spa. The success of how well they work depends on how long your hair growth is, how well you stuck it down, how well you ripped it off and your own hair texture.

Overall, it did a great job at getting the hair off. My only complaint is that to do my whole leg, it took quite a long time. I kept trying to find shortcuts to make it go quicker. Like I mentioned, I tried sitting on the strips to warm them. Because my hair is thin, I was also able to use some of the strips twice on the lighter areas.

I don’t think that I would ever use the Sweetease strips for my entire leg again, but they are perfect for touch ups when need be. You can use them on date night or vacation when you don’t have time for a full shave.

Garnier Whole Blends Hair Care

Garnier shampoo and conditioner has been such a reliable standard for so long that I was surprised to hear they were doing something new. If it ain’t broke, right? I used to be a very loyal Garnier hair care user. For a while in college, it was the only line I would use. It was the only thing that could handle my thick, frizzy, wavy hair.
Garnier Whole Blends Argan Oil + Cranberry
The new line is a more natural collection using ingredients that you are familiar with. The collections are paraben free, which is nice, but they aren’t ALL natural. They have natural extracts. The idea behind this line actually makes me a little sad. I wish that Garnier wasn’t playing on the more organic and natural trends in beauty. Since this line isn’t all natural, I kind of feel like I am being duped. Regardless, I wanted to give them a fair shot, since I have love for Garnier in my heart.

I tried the Colour Care line which includes argan oil and cranberry. I was actually really impressed with its performance. The line has a nice consistency and smell. It’s subtle and creamy. My scalp has been so dry this winter and nothing seems to fix it. I was shocked that after a few used to this line and my scalp wasn’t itchy any more. I was so busy thinking about the colour care aspect and whether it stopped frizz, that I almost didn’t even notice how moisturized my hair felt. I have tried a million products. Who would ever believe this Garnier line would be the one to solve all of my issues?

Now that I’m hooked, I am excited to try more from the Whole Blends line!

Easy Valentine’s Day Makeup

Whether you’re going out with a significant other or hanging out with the girls, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to mean super complicated makeup. So we’ve come up with some great products that’ll make your life a little easier.
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp
Charlotte Tilbury makes her eyeshadow quads really easy for us. All the shades are colour co-ordinated, there’s a little diagram to show us where to use what shade and they pretty much work for any skin tone. I’m in love with The Vintage Vamp. I use the top two shades for every day and the bottom two for added drama. This pink, gold and plum palette goes on so smoothly that I barely need to blend. Plus it’s really pigmented so you can get away with one pass of a brush. The bonus is these shadows last for hours, so I’ve never had to use a shadow primer with them.
Yves Rocher Top Coat For Eye Makeup Fixing
Yves Rocher Top Coat For Eye Makeup Fixing
Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you can’t glam up your makeup. These gels transform any old eye makeup into something with more wow factor. It’s easy to use! First you apply your makeup as usual. Second, choose your finish whether it’s glossy, metallic or pearly. Apply the gel using the applicator brush on your lids over your makeup. When I used it with powder shadow, I found that it wiped off my eye shadow. It worked best for me with liner or something that was stronger. The finishes are fun and perfect for any celebration look.
Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick in One Of A Kind
Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick in One Of A Kind
This winter I have been all about dark lipsticks this winter. I love them so much. My biggest decision has been red or purple lipstick. Rimmel’s new shade and formula is the perfect mix of both. This lipstick is a rich berry that will satisfy your need to go to the dark side, in a day appropriate way. The lipstick even smells like berries. If you see me around, expect to see the shade!
Clarins 3 Dot Liner
Clarins 3 Dot Liner
This liner is supposed to make applying the perfect eyeliner easier, but for someone who isn’t confident applying liner it’s terrifying. The three dot pen tip looks like I will just make more mistakes rather than less. Instead it’s easy to get a slick black line. My own line is a bit thicker than I would normally apply it, but it looks great, so I’m not going to complain. Anyone who is trying find their perfect black eye liner should give this innovative pen a try. If you are more skilled than I am, you might be able to create some amazing looks.
FLOWER Miracle Matte Translucent Finishing Powder

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v80), quality = 100
I get a little shiny, so I love a finishing powder and FLOWER’s new Miracle Matte powder is fantastic. It’s really silky and easily blends into your skin. It gives you a great matte finish while covering up any imperfections and really does a good job minimizing my pores. It’s the perfect way to finish up the makeup process and it’s a really easy way to make your skin look amazing without a ton of product.

L’Occitane Soothing & Comforting Skin Care

We could all use a little more comfort in our lives. L’Occitane is here to help with new products for soothing and comforting your skin during the driest and harshest skin season.

53994_B1.jpg

Replace your regular moisturizer with the L’Occitane Soothing Fluid. I’m not sure why it’s called a fluid. This is a moisturizer with a similar creamy formula as some of your other favourites. It’s here to both comfort and protect sensitive skin. I don’t have sensitive skin, so I don’t usually use these types of products, but I have to say this is really nice. This moisturizer is extra light and airy. It has a light powder scent that is, dare I say, comforting. It dries very quickly on the skin and leaves no residue or dewiness on my face. I love moisturizer that leaves no trace. I am a firm believer that you shouldn’t notice your moisturizer. That makes this product a winner in my books!

For the evening, we have the L’Occitane Comfort Oil. Oils are the biggest thing in moisturizing right now. Every brand is releasing an oil to add serious moisture to your skin. This product is 100% natural and perfect for all skin types.

While it says you can apply this oil morning and night, I find it a little too thick and oily for day time under my makeup. It leaves residue on your hands that you have to wash off. It’s ideal for applying before bed though to get your moisture while you sleep.

So curl up with L’Occitane this winter to get nice and cozy.

Essence Cosmetics Make Up Boxes

Essence Cosmetics has been quickly pulling ahead of the pack in Canada as the best makeup brand for girls who are new to makeup. With these new makeup boxes they are setting themselves even further apart from other brands. Essence has developed makeup boxes for a variety of different parts of your everyday makeup routine. I tried the How to make Brows Wow box and the How to make Smokey Eyes box.

Both boxes contain everything you will need to get the look they are promising including small brushes, tweezers and step-by-step tutorials. It’s perfect for anyone who’s unsure of themselves when it comes to makeup.

The brows box has a few different colours of powder, so you can match your hair colour. The step-by-step is crucial for anyone who has never shaped their own brows. It’s great to get tips to ensure that you do it right.

The Smokey Eye box has six sparkling eye shadows to get not just a regular smokey eye, but a glammed up version. Again, there is a step-by-step tutorial for newbies. Since how to do a smokey eye is probably one of the most google makeup searches of all time, we know there are lots of people out there who could use this reminder.

Overall these little makeup boxes are a great idea. We hope that essence keeps on developing these kits for all of the makeup newbies out there.

More Great Skin Care Gifts

There are so many amazing gifts available this year we have more than one post for so many categories. Especially skin care, because all of us want great skin next year.

Foreo Deep Cleansing Essentials
Foreo Deep Cleansing Essentials
Invest in your (or someone you love’s) skin care this holiday season with this Foreo set. I have never been a big fan of face cleansing tools and brushes and devices. I think that their hype overvalues them. That makes my support of the Foreo mean so much more. A lot of products tout that it’s like a spa facial at home. After washing with the Foreo, it really does feel like a spa facial at home! My skin feels refreshed and totally clean. It isn’t tough. I’m sure it’s just as nice on sensitive skin, as it is on my tough exterior. There is a smoother Day Cleanser and an exfolitating Night Cleanser to give you an all-day glow.

Ole Henriksen 3 Little Wonders + Cleanse
Ole Henriksen
Give a unique little holiday gift set this year with this compact set. Mom or your favourite aunt will love this set for a more youthful glow. This set includes African Red Tea Foaming Cleaner, Truth Serum Collagen Booster, Sheer Transformation moisturizer, and Invigorating Night Treatment. This skin care set is different than the regular old set you give every year because of the exciting ingredients. Ole Henriksen uses amazing natural ingredients including citrus, licorice and red tea. Whoever you give it to will be impressed.

Peter Thomas Roth Mask-A-Holic Kit
Peter thomas roth mask-a-holic kit
Any mask addict like myself is going to love opening any of the mask sets from Peter Thomas Roth. It’s hard for us to choose just one that we would put on our Christmas wish list. Sets range from the $20 Mini Mask Magic Kit all of the way to the $45 Skinstant Mask Magic set. Try choosing a set based on the different masks included. The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is a more intensive treatment, not suitable for sensitive skin. The Cucumber Gel Mask is much more hydrating. I would recommend the MAsk-A-Holic set because it includes the amazing 24K Gold Mask. It’s so luxurious and gives your skin a natural glow after just one use! You will almost want to keep it for yourself.

Nude Triple Skin Rescue
Nude Triple Skin Rescue

The three products are more than just your regular cleansers. Modernize your routine with the makeup removing Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly, the interesting Detox Fizzy Powder Wash and the silky Progenius Omega Rescue Oil.

Paul & Joe Beaute Perfect Makeup Primer

pauljoe-perfect-makeup-primer

Up until this month I’ve been a devoted foundation wearer. I wore foundation without fail almost every day when I discovered the Paul & Joe Beaute primer. I didn’t ever have faith that a primer and powder would be enough.

The Paul & Joe Perfect Makeup Primer has all of the qualities that you want in your primer and foundation in one little package. It’s as thick as your average foundation and gives good coverage. It looks like it might lay on top of your skin at first, but then it quickly blends in to look very natural. It covers all redness, moisturizes and gives your face a matte finish. As an added bonus it leaves your skin with a powdery smell and feel so you are silky smooth.

After I applied the Paul & Joe Primer, my instinct was to add foundation over top, but when I looked in the mirror I was pleasantly surprised by the results. I felt confident in my face. All I needed was to add a little Paul & Joe pressed powder over top for the perfect finishing touch.

Paul & Joe really changed the whole way that I wear makeup. Since then I’ve been lightening up how much I wear foundation, trying not only this primer, but other primers and light tinted moisturizers in the place of my heavy foundation. Paul & Joe’s primer was one of my game changers. I would recommend it to anyone out there.

Noome Anti-Aging Motion Device

noome deviceI’ve seen a lot of weird skin care and anti-aging devices over the years, but the Noome Anti-Aging Device might be the most interesting one that I have ever had the pleasure of actually trying myself.

This battery operated device is supposed to help skin regain natural cushion, radiance and stimulate cell renewal. It should also smooth lines, increase collagen production, soothe facial strain, brighten complexion and help your overall skin care routine. Phew! There is no denying that evoDerma is promising a lot from one little device.

The white handle is topped with a hard rubber suction cup type end. There is a firm or soft option depending on your personal preference. When you turn it on, the end contracts and sucks in repeatedly. You’re supposed to move it over your face slowly in different patterns, letting the cup suction your skin. The sensation is a bit funny. It’s not hard or painful, but it does pull at your skin. It kind of reminded me of those electric pads that they sell in late night infomercials for weight loss. It makes your skin pull and contract in funny ways. If you have thin skin, you might not want to try the Noome. It works best on full, thicker skin that it can suck up.

I used the Noome device a number of times, and I don’t know if it really works as it claims. The idea seems so simple. It’s almost pulling the wrinkles out of your skin. It’s the same idea as knocking a dent out of a car. You just suck the wrinkles off your face. That sounds way too good to be true. I will have to keep using it for a long time before I could give a truly honest account of whether it works.

We did find a great practical use for the Noome. It works great for headaches. The suction is like a little massage for tense face muscles. It relaxes your face and relieves the headache.

Honestly, I don’t know if I would recommend the Noome to readers. I feel like people who would want to try this tool, will try it regardless. Those who don’t believe it will work, won’t. Are you ready to give it a try?

Birchbox Canada August 2015

Birchbox August 2015 Box
I’m starting to really look forward to my Birchbox arrival every month. They keep adding brands and the point system is fantastic (I already redeemed 300 points and got a $27 product for free. August’s theme was Soak It Up and the box itself was adorable. If you haven’t tried Birchbox yet, for $14.95 CDN/Month you get five deluxe beauty samples. You can find more information here. Here’s what was in my box this month.
Birchbox August 2015 Insert Card
with my first glance at the insert card I got really excited, no shampoo this month! Plus the only repeat brand is LAQA & Co. and this is a completely different product from the Lip Lube I’d gotten before.
Birchbox August 2015 Contents
amika Un.Done Texture Spray
I’m so happy I received this spray instead of the mask. This is supposed to give you volume and shine and I can definitely use that with the craziness this humidity is doing to my hair.
Crabtree & Evelyn Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy in Gardeners
I’m always down for a hand cream and this one is really rich but absorbs almost instantly and didn’t leave me greasy. It has a nice, herbal scent. I’m going to be hoarding this for winter.
LAQA & Co. Cheeky Lip in Humble Brag
Part of the Charm School Kit, these new creamy, matte lip balms are much more to my liking than their Lip Lubes. They go on pretty dry but are creamy and comfortable. I was hoping to get this pink shade from the trio and I wasn’t disappointed with the pigmentation or wear time. I wish I could buy these individually but hopefully that’s coming.
Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum with Retinol
At first I was thrown off by how long that name is and figured I had enough skin care that I could throw this in my give away drawer but then I read the insert card. This is for acne and aging at the time plus it shrinks pores? Sold.
Vita Liberata Self Tanning Night Moisture Mask
If there’s one fail with Birchbox’s beauty profile, it’s that there isn’t anything about tanners or bronzers. I don’t tan or self tan and I’m almost exactly as pale in August as I was in March. Luckily Stephanie loves stuff like this so she can have it but I wish there was a way to never get a tanner or bronzer again.

For the most part I love this box. It has a nice variety of skin care, makeup and hair products and with the exception of the mask, I’ll use them all. It seems like Birchbox Canada keeps adding new things so if you haven’t signed up yet,now might be a good time.

Ceramic Glaze Summer Bloom Collection Review + Swatches

While Ceramic Glaze’s spring Stunning Soiree collection wasn’t exactly what I pictured for spring, their Summer Bloom collection is definitely perfect for the warmer weather. This eight piece collection has two previously loved shades and six new shades, three of which are permanent additions to the line. Although these polishes are only available at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada, they’re still one of my favourite brands. It’s really hard to find polishes that are so consistent shade to shade. The newer shades are available in June.
Pineapple Breeze
Ceramic Glaze Pineapple Breeze Swatch
I had to start with the shade that was the biggest surprise to me. Pineapple Breeze is one of the two polishes already released. I generally hate a yellow polish, they don’t look good on me and the formula is really tricky for some reason. But I love this light yellow. it went on so smoothly with no issues and is really pretty and summery. I’ll actually wear this one again.
Strawberries N’ Milk
Ceramic Glaze Strawberries N' Milk Swatch
Another older shade, this is one of my least favourites. I really wanted it to be a little more opaque and much more pink.. But if you’re looking for a good french manicure base, this is ideal.
Smells Like Rain
Ceramic Glaze Smells Like Rain Swatch
This sky blue is a new addition and one that’s staying. Application was pretty flawless and the colour is so bright and pretty, the photo doesn’t really do it justice.
Newly Mint
Ceramic Glaze Newly Mint Swatch
Another new permanent addition, Newly mint is a pastel mint with a lot more blue in it than most. This is one of my favourites, I don’t have another green in my collection that’s like it at all.
Freshly Laundered
Ceramic Glaze Freshly Laundered Swatch
This beige shade just doesn’t do anything for me, it’s a better formula than Strawberries N’ Cream and for a neutral it was easy to apply but I’m not a fan of the shade.
Lavender Fields Forever
Ceramic Glaze Lavender Fields Forever Swatch
The photo is really the only place the lavender really comes through with this polish. In real lighting it’s more of a pink, but it’s really pretty either way.
First Sign Of Spring
Ceramic Glaze First Sign Of Spring Swatch
Another favourite of mine, this blue has tons of purple in it and is really perfect for summer. Again, application was pretty perfect.

All of the shades were two coats with no major issues. We didn’t have the In Full Bloom shade.
