Vichy Spa Shower Gel Head to Head

vichy-spa-gel-oil-soap

Vichy is the master of skincare, but I don’t usually think of them as my whole body skin. Vichy is known for face skin care. They are moving from face to body with their new shower gels. We tried both the oil and the cream to see which Vichy Shower Gel reigns supreme.

I started with the Oil version of the shower gel. This one is for all skin types from dry to oily and even sensitive. It has magnesium, copper and zinc to help your skin glow. It has a light soapy smell that is fairly subtle. I found the gel-oil to be very difficult to get out of the bottle. No matter how much a squeezed, I could never get a good stream out. Since it doesn’t really froth up a lot that made for some tricky showers. I felt like I could never get a good clean.

I didn’t give up though, because I had another Vichy cleanser to try.

Next I moved the Vichy Spa Shower Gel –Cream. This one has the same distinct smell so if you like it (or don’t) then you will have an easy decision. It’s also for all skin types, so everyone is in luck. The Cream has shea butter and white clay in it for intense comfort and hydration and to help soften your skin. Unlike the oil, this cleanser comes out of the bottle easily and gets nice and frothy. I love how soft this cleaner is on my skin. My skin feels almost instantly smother and softer after using it.

I am so glad that I didn’t give up on Vichy, because I love this Gel-Cream. I am sure that some people will prefer the oil version, so go with your gut on what you think you will like best!

Ceramic Glaze Core Collection Additions

I’m all over fall nail polish right now, it’s my favourite nail polish season after all but this year Ceramic Glaze isn’t releasing new shades for their fall and holiday collections. Instead, they’ve added a bunch of new core shades and we have a couple that fit right into fall anyways. Ceramic Glaze is only available at Shopper’s Drug Mart in Canada but if you’re stateside you might be able able to find similar shades with another similar brand. Those are all the clues you get.
Island Getaway
ceramic-glaze-island-getaway-swatch
I was honestly convinced that I had already tried this bright, hot pink shade but after a search through my archives, I couldn’t find it. I love this pink as a transitional shade, since Toronto still feels like it’s summer and not fall and some of us aren’t quite ready for cooler weather (I’m so ready though). Island Getaway was extremely runny, which led to pooling, which really wasn’t fun. But two coats were good for opacity, just be prepared for a ton of cleanup.
Sweet Temptation
ceramic-glaze-sweet-tempation-swatch
The formula for this dark berry was much better and there was a lot less cleanup involved. Two coats of this super pretty pink was perfect. It’s a really nice year round shade.
Raisin Biscotti
ceramic-glaze-raisin-biscotti-swatch
If this dark plum shade looks familiar to you, it’s because it’s very similar to OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark. Like, almost exact. But I wore this one for a week with basically no chips or tip wear and it’s definitely on my favourites list for fall. That said, this one needs a top coat, it really needs that glossy finish. The first coat of this one was very patchy but the second was perfect.
Forever In Love
ceramic-glaze-forever-in-love-swatch
This was the last of the four polishes I tried and I really didn’t think anything could top Raisin Biscotti for me in terms of favourites. This gorgeous burgundy just screams ‘fall shade’ and I could’ve gotten away with one coat but did two for depth. I still can’t decide if Raisin Biscotti or Forever In Love won as my favourite but I’m already trying to decide how I can wear both at once.

Tarte Tarteist Metallic Shadows

tarte-tarteist-metallic-shadow-box
One of my favourite things about being a beauty blogger is trying new products that are destined to be instant classics and aren’t an eyeshadow palette. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good palette, but there’s something to be said for eyeshadow singles and the ability to put whatever shades you want together. Until now, I’ve only used Tarte shadows in a palette and most of them have been matte, which is my shadow preference. I’m really not a sparkly, glittery kind of girl so I tend to gravitate toward matte anything. But Tarte has just majorly stepped up their shadow game with Tarteist Metallic Shadows.
tarte-tarteist-metallic-shadow
With eleven shades that are all fairly neutral (so far), there’s a shadow that can fit into any look whether it’s day or night, dramatic or subtle. The packaging is pretty flimsy but you can pop the shadows out and put them in a magnetic palette. The star of these shadows is the formula. These are buttery and pigmented and shimmery but not glittery. They’re smooth and blendable and work really well together. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of fallout but you’re definitely going to want to use a primer with these. The colours are pretty spectacular. I personally love Poker Face (silvery lilac) and Dame (dusty rose) but I really liked all five I tried. There are a couple others I have my eye on (Sinful, Speakeasy) and I’ll probably end up grabbing them.

I love Tarte but it’s been a really long time since I was blown away with a new launch by them. This whole Tarteist line has been great but these shadows are the winners for me.

Crush By Rihanna Eau De Parfum

crush-by-rihanna-box1
When perfumes come out in September, they’re usually on the heavier, winter based side of things. Rihanna’s latest fragrance Crush, has a little heaviness to it but it’s also sparking and pretty, making it a great transition fragrance from summer to fall. I’ve never tried a Rihanna fragrance before so I didn’t know what to expect from them but I really find Crush to be the kind of scent that you can wear all year and for people of all kinds of personalities.

The bottle is a heavy glass that has a jewelry inspired top. Because it’s so wide, it’s a little hard to hold but I got used to that pretty quickly. The scent itself has a ton of notes. Considered a floriental, it opens with bergamot, mandarin and pink peppercorn followed by pink rose, ylang ylang and red berries. It finishes with patchouli, creamy musk and cedarwood.
crush-by-rihanna1
On paper, these scents don’t all completely make sense to me but somehow they really work. I definitely smell the red berries and musk but so far I haven’t been able to pick out any of the others individually. I find that a good thing though, that means they blend well together. The effect you’re left with is something a little flirty, sexy and definitely feminine. At the same time, I can see Crush appealing to both teenage girls and older women, there doesn’t seem to be one demographic that I can see wearing it over another.

If Crush is a good indication of Rihanna’s fragrances, I think I may have been missing out. At least I have a new scent for fall.

Lipstick Queen Most Wanted

lipstick-queen-most-wanted
Cult fave British lipstick company, Lipstick Queen is finally going to be really accessible in Canada. As of today, they’re officially at Murale and available on the Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique site which means more Optimum Points for all the lipstick lovers! I’d only had a chance to try one Lipstick Queen lipstick in the past, so I was really excited when we received a package from them ahead of the launch. These are our Most Wanted Lipstick Queen shades.

Jungle Queen

lipstick-queen-jungle-queen

This is the shade I’d tried previously and I still love it a lot. It’s been two years since I first tried it and somewhere along the line it went missing so I was thrilled for a replacement. I actually wear a lot more lipstick now than I did then and this papaya-coral shade is really flattering on me. I’m still not wearing it with leopard print like it was intended but it’s a great summer shade and will transition really well into fall. I love that I can wear a super bright shade without drying out my lips.

Medieval
lipstick-queen-medieval
Speaking of going into fall, this sheer red is going to carry me way into winter. Inspired by medieval times when women used lemon juice to bring the red out in their lips, this red is going to look good on everyone. It feels almost like you’re wearing a tinted lip balm but with a touch more colour.

Hello Sailor
lipstick-queen-hello-sailor
Dark blue lipstick is definitely a trend right now but this lipstick isn’t actually dark blue. It’s a deep blackberry tint that makes your teeth look whiter. I’ve actually started using this one as a lip balm because it’s so moisturizing, gives me a hint of colour and won’t melt when it’s hot out.

Frog Prince
lipstick-queen-frog-prince
Frog Prince (and Hello Sailor) is one of the reasons I love Lipstick Queen, you just never know what to expect. Does this lipstick look green? Yes. Does it go on green? Not even a little. This is one of those colour adjusting lipsticks that turns into the best shade of rosy pink for your lips. It also turns into a stain, so you get colour for hours. Obviously the swatches below won’t be exactly the shade you’ll get on your lips but it’s a rough idea.

There are tons of other Lipstick Queen shades that we love (another post coming soon) and that we’d love to try (I need to get my hands on Black Lace Rabbit), and now that Canadians can get them at Murale it’ll be so much easier for everyone to discover their favourite shade as well.

Lise Watier Hydraforce BB

lise-watier_hydraforce_bbcreme_clair

Lise Watier is changing the way that you think about BB creams. When you see the words BB, you probably think more of a foundation type product. Other BB creams have coverage from light to full coverage giving you a different option from your regular foundation combo. Lise Watier’s Hydraforce BB isn’t like that.

When you go on their website, you might have a hard time finding it, because this BB isn’t in makeup, it’s in skincare.

Lise Watier has made a BB cream that is ready to protect your skin first. This cream is really moisturizing. It has a slight tint in it, but it’s not enough for any kind of coverage. Look elsewhere if you want to hide blemishes or discolouration. This is all about moisture.

I did find that Lise Watier’s BB cream made my face a bit shiny. I know that is part of the product giving me a healthy glow, but it’s too shiny for my liking.

If you need a new tinted moisturizer, I would recommend giving this a try, just know that it’s a moisturizer.

Weekend Getaway Makeup Most Wanted

When you are heading out of town with friends or maybe for a romantic weekend away, you don’t want to have to pack your whole arsenal of makeup. Here’s a little glimpse at some of the things I packed to hit the road for a weekend in Boston!

the-face-shop-mango-seed-cleansing-wipes

The Face Shop Mango Seed Cleansing Wipes – Everything about these wipes is moisturizing. I have been addicted to these wipes this summer because they are perfect no matter where the day takes you. The moisturizing wipes are perfect after a long day in the sun to dry out your face. They do leave a little bit of a residue, but it didn’t bother me most of the time. Everything feels nice and dewy.

travel-kit

Leonor Greyl Luxury Travel Kit – I hate going away and not being able to take my favourite shampoo and conditioner with me. This travel kit is really the next best thing. It comes with a shampoo, conditioning mask and oil. My first thought was, why do I want a hair mask while I’m on vacation? It’s nice because you can cheat and use it like a regular conditioner as well. When I was away recently I became hooked on the oil, which is perfect on wet or dry hair. You can find this luxe set for volume, dry hair or curly hair (or even just pick up the travel size oil solo), so you can get exactly what you need.

juara-candlenut-obsession-trio

Juara Candlenut Obsession Trio – Since you are in the shower, you also have to take care of that body. I don’t know what a candlenut is, but I can tell you I really am obsessed. This trio box has a Body Polish, Hydrating Shower Gel and Body Crème with this new scent. It’s got a mix of shea butter, coconut, and something musky underneath. It smells a bit like men’s soap. I can’t even describe it properly. All I know is it made this weekend away even better!

sephora-collection

Sephora Collection Look Color In The Eye Brush Capsule – I hate travelling with my regular brushes. I always get worried I will lose them, break them or otherwise ruin them while on the road. This little brush capsule is perfect to take instead. It has all of the eye brushes I could ever want. The pretty capsule keeps them clean and protected in my luggage.

mac-cosmetics-shes-a-model-eyeshadow-palette

Mac Cosmetics She’s A Model Eyeshadow Palette – Lately MAC has released some crazy, bold and beautiful colours, but that doesn’t always work for my real life. Enter this palette. While the eye shadows can be worn together in more daring ways, it’s also work appropriate. You can use the nice neutral tones for the office once you get back to reality. Then glam up your look with the sparkly silvers or better yet, the daring teal eye shadow. This collection also comes with some bright pink lipsticks and nail polishes, so there will be no shortage of colour when you enter the room.

essence-pure-nude-highlighter

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter – Get a little shimmer and shine with the new highlighter powder from essence. I’ve gotten really into powders this summer. The idea of wearing heavy foundation in the heat is just too much for my skin. This highlighter has been good to add back a little shine where I want. I think that highlighters are seriously under-used makeup, at least by me. I have been applying this highlighter on my cheeks above my cheek bones and nose for a little natural shine. Paired with my blush and bronzer, it gives me the natural glow you want, not the one you get on a humid summer day.

Quo By Orly Breathable Treatment + Color

I’m always a little hesitant when nail polish companies release ‘healthy’ collections. Let’s be honest, nails don’t really breathe and if you’re using acetone to remove your polish then you’re basically reversing any good effects you might get. But it’s a healthy nail polish is a trend right now and tons of lines are popping up everywhere. Also, I love base and top coats probably more than I love nail polish and I haven’t found a one-step polish that made me willing to give them up for a while. Until I tried Quo By Orly’s Breathable Nail Treatment + Color. If you’re not in Canada, Orly’s Breathable is exactly the same stateside but the bottles look a tiny bit different.

The Breathable treatment is filled with Argan Oil, Vitamin B5 and Vitamin C; all to promote hydration, heal damaged nails and let oxygen into them while you’re wearing polish. I’m lucky enough to have really strong, healthy nails that don’t peel or chip often, so I’m the wrong person to ask about if this polish makes nails stronger. I will say that none of them broke while I was wearing the polish though. This is a one-step polish, you don’t use base or top coats and I had similar experiences will nearly all the shades I tried. They went on like a dream and while the brush is fairly massive, there was a slight angle on it that made it easier to apply to my narrow nail beds. Also, this polish dries fast and shiny. I was probably most surprised by the amount of shine I got without a top coat. Also, a lack of top coat made these super easy to take off with regular polish remover and not one stained. Now that all the information is out of the way, let’s take a look at the shades I tried. All of the photos are two coats without base or top coat. I’m using the shade descriptions from the Orly version.
Rehab

Peach Nude Crème
I’m not a fan of nudes but this formula really impressed me considering it was an all-in-one. I did have slight bubbling but Toronto was crazy humid when I was swatching these, so I’m blaming weather.
Just Breathe
quo-by-orly-just-breathe-swatch
Periwinkle Creme
This one seemed thicker than the others, almost chunky but it dried down fine and was really pretty. I’m blaming weather again for the slight bubbling on my pinky.
Happy And Healthy
quo-by-orly-happy-healthy-swatch
Pastel Coral Creme
Orly calls this coral, I call it bubblegum so we can agree to disagree. This was the only one that had slight patchiness but it evened out while it was drying.
Fresh Start
quo-by-orly-fresh-start-swatch
Pastel Mint Creme
Fresh Start was basically perfect. Everything about it worked and I wore it for a week straight with zero tip wear and it stayed shiny! Plus I’m used to mint greens being a little chalky and this one isn’t.
Stronger Than Ever
quo-by-orly-stronger-than-ever-swatch
Ruby Red/Gold Shimmer
When I applied the first coat of Stronger Than Ever it was so sheer that I was worried about how many coats I’d have to do for opacity. Turns out the second coat did the job. This is going to be stunning for the holiday season. It was also much easier to take off than a lot of other microglitters.
The Antidote
quo-by-orly-the-antidote-swatch
Deep Wine Creme
I love love love this shade for fall. I could’ve gotten away with one coat of this but two just looked a little better. One coat also had tip wear fairly quickly while two didn’t have any. My brush was faulty for this one but I was able to work around it for the most part.
Pick-Me-Up
quo-by-orly-pick-me-up-swatch
Deep Plum Creme
We don’t get a ton of purple polish around here but I do generally like them and I love this one. It went on perfectly and it’s a great shade for fall.
Feeling Free
quo-by-orly-feeling-free-swatch
Iris Purple Creme
I didn’t fully realize how much I love this shade until I saw how the photo of it turned out. Do you see all the shine? You get all with all the shades but it really stands out with Feeling Free. The first coat went on very sheer but the second turned it into this perfect, gorgeous purple. By far my favourite shade of the eight I tried.

I can’t stress enough how impressed I am by this collection. There are still a couple shades I wouldn’t mind trying but I really hope they add a ton of shades to this line because this is the only one-step polish I’ve tried that I’d actually wear on a regular basis. It takes a lot for me to get obsessed with a new kind of polish but I literally didn’t want to stop wearing this line.

Blinc Box Discovery Collection

blinc box discovery

I was pretty excited to open up the Blinc Box and see all of these new little products waiting for me. Blinc is known for having amazing mascara and other high quality eye makeup that doesn’t budge. This box includes Mascara Amplified, Eyebrow Mousse, Eyeshadow Primer and an Eyeliner Pencil.  I was a little disappointed in the mini-sizes, but it is perfect for trying out new things before jumping over my commitment phobia into full size.

If I am truthful with you, and I always am, I was a little underwhelmed by the Blinc products. It’s not that they aren’t good, they just are missing a bit of drama. I have never thought of myself as a mascara connoisseur, but this mascara is light. I always needed to apply multiple coats to get those dramatic lashes that I’m used to.

The one product that I am hooked on is the eyeliner pencil. It lives up to its name and promise of being smudge proof and waterproof. This little black liner isn’t going anywhere no matter what I threw at it over the course of a day.

Even though I wasn’t crazy about the Blinc box doesn’t mean you won’t discover your new favourite product. Anyone who loves that no makeup makeup look will probably be hooked on these. I am a girl looking for a little more drama.

Nip + Fab Kale Fix Collection

I’m definitely not on the kale bandwagon but I get why people are, so I’m not surprised that skin care companies have jumped on it. When we received Nip + Fab’s Kale Fix collection, we weren’t really sure what to expect. Both of us had the chance to try the products and we had some interesting (and non-interesting results).
Kale Moisturizer
nip + fab kale moisturiser
When I try a new skin care line, I generally try out the moisturizer first. I like a lot of things about this one; it’s light, it moisturizes and it absorbs really quickly. All in all, a good option for a daytime moisturizer. It’s really too bad I hate the kale scent of it. It’s such a strong scent that I literally used this twice so I could review it and then gave up. I wish there was less of a smell because I would’ve used this a lot more.

Make-Up Removing Pads
nip + fab kale fix make-up removing pads
I’m used to using huge wipes to take off my makeup but these pads actually come in really handy. I use them to just take my eye makeup off before I use my Clarisonic or after a shower when I have some leftover mascara run-off and they don’t sting or dry out my eyes. I generally use one pad per eye and they’re not the greatest at waterproof mascara so I have a tendency to go through these pretty quickly. They get the job done though and I was completely surprised by how much I liked them.
Clay Mask
nip + fab kale fix clay mask

I have used a ton of masks this year, so I feel like I have become pickier as we get into the second half. I had high hopes for this mask because of the brand and the fact that it’s a clay mask. I am used to clay masks really drawing out everything that is clogging up my skin. Unfortunately, I wasn’t overly impressed with the Nip + Fab mask. The colour was fun (who doesn’t love a bright green face mask?) and it did dry like a regular clay mask, but when it was cleaned off my face didn’t feel super clean. In the end, that’s really what it comes down to and unfortunately it didn’t live up to it.
