Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Box
Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is really the product that got me hooked on matte liquid lipstick and inspired this series. The Holiday Lolita Lip Duo was the first time I tried an Everlasting Liquid Lipstick and to say I was obsessed with them might be an understatement. I’ve tried more shades since then and I haven’t been disappointed yet.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
For this post we tried four shades, L-R: Lovesick (mauve nude), Lolita (chestnut rose), Double Dare (cocoa blush) and Nosferatu (blood crimson). Lolita is the cult fave shade that everyone seems to love, Lovesick has been my go to summer shade and I’ve been loving Double Dare a lot. I have a feeling Nosferatu will be a big fall/winter shade for me. The formula is basically exactly what you’d expect; a thin, liquid that dries down extremely fast (go quick if you need to fix anything). There is a slightly sticky feel for a minute but once it’s completely dried, it goes away.

The brush is fairly typical but the bottle is long and slim and so far the easiest for me to lose in my purse. As far as wear time, I can go hours without a touch up but if I’m eating or drinking I notice that the inside part of my lips wear off first. Everlasting Liquid Lipstick can be a little drying and you definitely want to exfoliate your lips first because it’ll show everything. With 28 shades available, you definitely won’t have any trouble picking one (or five) that you’ll love.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick

Too Faced Melted Matte Boxes
I’m not a huge fan of lipstick, or I wasn’t until matte liquid lipstick became a thing and now I wear a lot more than I ever have before. Since I’m loving the formula, I decided to do a series on the matte liquid lipstick world and see which ones worked the best for me. We’re kicking it off with Too Faced’s Melted Matte.
Too Faced Melted Matte
We tried six shades L-R: Miso Pretty (soft pink), Child Star (soft nude), Sell Out (pinky-brown), Feelin’ Myself (peachy-pink), Lady Balls (true red) and Evil Twin (deep black cherry), The lipsticks are a pretty substantial size with a pretty typical doe foot wand that makes it easy to apply. The formula though is a little different. It’s extremely creamy and is infused with avocado oil and vitamin E to keep your lips comfortable. It also has Volulip in it to give your lips a little non-tingly plump.

Melted Matte really doesn’t take long to dry and once it does, it feels like your not wearing anything. I’ve gone a good six hours without even checking if I had to reapply and unless I was doing a ton of eating, I barely noticed a difference. Once these dry down there’s very little transfer as well. My biggest issue is that I wish there were some brighter, summery shades, but I’ve been wearing Feelin’ Myself pretty much non-stop and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on it.

I started off with Melted Matte because it’s by far my favourite of the matte liquid lipsticks that we’ll be featuring. I’m just hoping they introduce more shades.

Avon Anew Clean Mini Cleansers

Avon Anew Travel
Anew is Avon’s most popular skin care collection, or at least it’s the one I’ve heard of the most and in August they’re introducing the Anew Clean Mini Cleansers. There are six products to choose from. Three traditional cleansers, a cleansing water, toner and a scrub.
Avon Anew Travel Cleansers
The gel cleanser is meant for oily/combination skin, the rich cleansing foam is for normal/combination skin and the cream cleanser & mask is for normal/dry skin.
Avon Anew Travel Skincare
The cleansing water let’s you cleanse, hydrate and tone without needing water and the toner gets everything that you missed off. If you’re like me and love exfoliating, the daily scrub is a gentle way to do it.

All of these will be $6 each and are available as of August from whoever you get your Avon from. In the meantime, I’ll be taking a couple of these on vacation with me.

OPI Retro Summer 2016

The polish shade choices this summer have been kind of odd to me. I’m not seeing a ton of neon and there have been some very unexpected releases but OPI’s Retro Summer collection has us definitely in a summer kind of mood. Almost all the shades took a couple minutes to settle properly and some didn’t quite get there but there are some really pretty colours in here.
What’s The Double Scoop?

Rumor has it this summer-fun pink is taken…by me!
This super pretty pink was perfect in two coats. And while this one didn’t have settling issues, it pooled a lot, so be careful around your cuticles. Luckily, it doesn’t stain.
Flip Flops & Crop Tops

The perfect bright pink to go with all your summer
faves
I’m kind of obsessed with this bright pink shade. I mean, I’ve seen it before, but I still love it. This one was perfect in one coat and it did take a minute to settle properly. I’m going to be using this one a lot.
Towel Me About It
OPI Towel Me About It Swatch
This flirty, sunny yellow speaks volumes on style.
At first glance, this polish really reminds me of that banana penicillin I had as a kid, and I kind of can’t get past that. But this is actually a really good yellow polish. Or it would’ve been if I could’ve gotten it to settle and dry properly. I’d might try this one again when it’s less humid because it’s the first yellow I haven’t instantly hated in a long time.
I’m Getting A Tan-gerine
OPI I'm Getting A Tan-Gerine Swatch
Warm up to this a-peeling, citrusy orange.
It’s too bad this shade is a tad too yellow for me because the formula was pretty good. It was patchy on the first coat but that evened out on the second. Definitely not for me.
SPF XXX
OPI SPF XXX Swatch
An orange-red so hot, it’s off the charts.
I would just like to say, I’m so sick of orange nail polish I’d be happy to never see one again. That said SPF XXX went on in two coats like a dream. Zero issues, it settled perfectly and it’s actually a great shade.
Sailing & Nailing
OPI Sailing & Nailing Swatch
A light, breezy blue to charm your first mate.
And here we have love at first sight in a nail polish. This is everything I want in a summer polish. It’s bright and pretty and two coats went on flawlessly.

Biotherm Eau Soleil Perfume

Biotherm Eau Soleil Perfume

Biotherm is a go-to for skin care products, but I would never have thought of them for perfume. Actually, I didn’t even know that they made perfumes too until I got this one. In my mind, they are the moisturizer and face wash company.

From the name to the colourful bottle, there was never any question that this was going to be a very summery scent. It even contains non-photosensitive ingredients, so that it doesn’t react with the sun and cause burns. See, they are always thinking about how to protect your skin. It’s really amazing actually.

The scent is all about citrus. It’s a summery, fresh citrus explosion in a bottle. It’s a really refreshing smell to wear. It’s the best on rainy days to brighten your mood. Something about the smell just makes you feel a bit better.

I wouldn’t want to wear this perfume every day. It’s never going to be my signature scent. But it’s a fun different smell and pick-me-up when I have the blues.

Bioderma Travel Essentials

Bioderma Summer Travel Sizes
Finding travel sizes of some of our favourite products can be a hassle or really expensive. Luckily, Bioderma now has travel sizes of all their most loved products. If you love Bioderma’s Micellar Water (and who doesn’t?) you get three choices in the minis. Sensibio (sensitive skin), Hydrabio (dehydrated skin) and Sébium (combination to oily). I almost want to take all three on my trip with me but I’ll settle for Hydrabio.

If a Micellar water isn’t enough for your skin, you can also get the Sébium Foaming Gel to ward off blemishes and keep your skin super clean. And to top it all off you can also get the Atoderm Shower Gel, which is soap free and great for sensitive skin.

Bioderma has truly made it easy for us to get our skin clean and take off all our makeup on the go.

Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 in Fair

Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Compact
I’ve been a huge Clinique fan since high school and while I love some of their products an insane amount, they haven’t released a ton of things that have completely changed the way I wear makeup. Until now. I haven’t used many of the new foundation cushions because the one’s we get are always too dark for me. Luckily, Clinique sent over the fair shade of their new Super City Block BB Cushion and at first glance, I was convinced that it was too dark for me as well.
Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Compact - Fair
It’s actually the perfect shade for my face! Using it is a dream. You tap the puff on the product and you can build up to whatever coverage you want. The SPF 50 in it is a physical sunscreen, so it actually works (I still use another one under it). The finish is dewy and healthy.

I don’t usually wear foundation on a daily or even weekly basis and when I do wear it in the summer, it’s usually a tinted moisturizer. This Super City Block Cushion though lasts so long in the heat and is so easy to apply that I’ve been using it extremely regularly. I don’t normally love face makeup but this is going to be something I use for years to come. I love that fact that it’s refillable as well.

Right now these are only available online and will be hitting stores soon. But you can’t wait that long, trust me.

Veil Mineral Primer
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer_travel size
I can’t express how much I love this primer. You only need a tiny bit of this satiny primer to hide all your little imperfections and make your skin luminous without being greasy. The travel size is perfect to throw in any bag.

thumbnail_Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
A palette of three finishing powders (Incandescent Light, Dim Light and Radiant Light), you’ll be able to get the effect you want really easily. If you have fair skin like I do, consider trying this for contouring, it’s not too dark for me.

thumbnail_Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio
The newest of the bunch, this cream bronzer, blush and highlighter let’s you use your fingers to get the look you want without using a million different products. Since they’re cream to satin, they also won’t go chalky or dry on you.

Everyone needs a good brush when they’re travelling and this dual-ended retractable brush is great for all the products above or any face product really. Plus, they’re PETA friendly.

Essie Summer 2016 Collection

We’re mostly used to seeing neon polishes for summer and this year Essie has turned our expectations around. With no neons in sight, this Antigua inspired collection is strangely perfect for summer. I used Essie All In One base coat and Seche Vite top coat for all the swatches.
Coconut Cove
Essie Coconut Cove Swatch
Sweet Cream White
I almost got away with one coat for this one. A WHITE. But it was a touch patchy so I went with two. Essie’s Blanc has been my go to white for years but Coconut Cove might actually replace it for me. It’s not a true white, but the formula is flawless and it looks so great on.
Berried Treasures
Essie Berried Treasures Swatch
Bright Ruby Berry
This bright pink was one perfect coat. I don’t really have much more to say about it, other than I wish it was just a tiny bit more pink and less red. Other than that, gorgeous.
Hiking Heels
Essie Hiking Heels Swatch
Scorching Hot Lava Red
This red has a ton of orange in it, making it perfect for summer. This formula was kind of interesting. It went on really well but opacity kind of hovered somewhere between two and three coats depending on the thickness of the coat and each nail was somewhere between the two. I loved this one way more than I expected to.
Viva Antigua!
Essie Viva Antigua! Swatch
Iridescent crystalline turquoise
Lately I feel like there’s always a shade in each collection that I want to love but something goes very wrong. With this collection it’s Viva Antigua!. It’s gorgeous, it’s a one-coater and it has a nice, thin formula. But something went a little crazy when a couple of my nails were drying. Some were perfect (top two) but the bottom two, well…they never really settled. Maybe it was the humidity, but something just didn’t go right. I love this mermaid-y shade enough that I’ll definitely be trying again.
Loot The Booty
Essie Loot The Booty Swatch
Blue sapphire pavé
One medium-thick coat of this blue was enough for full opacity and a lot of depth. And it’s stunning in the sunlight. I don’t generally expect a shade like this for summer but I’m completely in love with it.
Tribal Text-styles
Essie Tribal Text-Styles Swatch
Black gold and crushed onyx
I can’t get over how gorgeous this shade is. Black gold and crushed onyx is a perfect description and it just sparkles like you have actual jewels on your nails. So great for a summer night out. One coat is fine for this one but you’ll be amazed at what you get if you do two.

Most Wanted Travel Essentials For Hair

My least favourite part about packing for a trip is trying to figure out what I’ll need for my hair. Is it going to be humid? Dry? Windy? But I’ve found some products that make it really easy to have a good hair day, every day of you’re away.
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler in Gold Rush
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Gold Rush.
There’s nothing better than a brush you can throw in your purse, especially when it comes with a cover that keeps it safe from whatever’s lurking in there. And the Tangle Teezer’s mini Compact Styler is the perfect brush for travelling. It’s gentle, effective and comes in a bunch of super cute designs and colours.
Sephora Mini Blast Travel Ionic Blow Dryer
Sephora Mini Blast Travel Ionic Blow Dryer
A lot of hotels have blow dryers in their bathrooms but this Sephora brand mini dryer is better than what you’ll find in most. Because it’s ionic, you can blow dry your hair in half the time and get rid of a lot of your frizz for smooth hair. In theory you can use this anywhere in the world but I have heard of some European outlets making it short out, so you might want to keep this one in North America.
Moroccanoil Jetsetter Set
Moroccanoil Jetsetter Set
There’s never a question that if I’m travelling, I’m taking my Moroccanoil treatment with me. This time the shampoo, conditioner and Intense Hydrating Mask are coming along. With all my basic hair needs covered in one set, it’ll make my life a lot easier.
Drybar I Heart Road Trips Travel Kit
Drybar I Heart Road Trips Travel Kit
Sometimes you want to go for different styles while you’re away and this travel kit from Drybar will make it really simple. With The Chaser Shine Cream, Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray and Triple Sec 3-in-1 all included, you can really get any look you want. And the name is so great.
