Rodial Super Acids Collection Review

rodial super acids

Some people might have sensitive skin, but others want to get extreme clean. Just the name Rodial Super Acids made my tired, dull, uneven skin shudder. With names like X-treme After-Party Scrub and X-treme Acid Rush Peel, I knew this was serious skin care.

I waited for the right day to try the Hangover Mask and After-Party Scrub. I wanted to give these products a chance befitting of their name. I was surprised when I started to apply. I was surprised that while they might be called Super Acid X-treme, but they didn’t feel intense on my skin. The mask actually felt very soft and moisturizing without that tingle you get from some masks.

While I may have not felt any better in my head after applying, I did look better. My skin was dewy, moisturized and fresh. I could have gone to work without anyone knowing the difference.

Next up was the Pore Shrinking Pads. These pads are supposed to shrink your pores for smoother looking skin. I love the tingly feeling they leave on my cheeks after using them. So far, I think my pores look the same, but my face feels great after using them.

I saved the best for last: The Acid Rush Peel!  I was understandably cautious and nervous. The word peel frightens me just a little. I applied it one night though. This instantly started tingling on my skin. My face felt like it was humming in some small pinprick sections. It didn’t stay tingly though. It would come and go in different areas. I assume it was as it worked its magic. It is strange because the peel is clear, so you can’t see it on your face. It doesn’t tighten or anything. It’s just the little tingles reminding you it’s there.

I washed it off about 13 minutes later anxiously. I was surprised at how moisturized my face felt. I thought the peel wouldn’t rinse off and then I realized that was the feeling of my soft skin. My face wasn’t red or irritated like I had planned. I looked almost the same, but just a bit better. My pores looked a little smaller and my face was a little brighter. I can see how with regular usage of twice a week, you would have amazing skin in no time. My boyfriend told me that I looked more beautiful after using it, which is a sure way to tell if you have a winner.

If you could only get one product from the line, I would definitely recommend the peel, but only if you have strong skin.

Summer Most Wanted Makeup Essentials

Whether it’s playing baseball, riding my bike, taking a dip or going to a summer festival, my summer is always packed. I am always on the go, so I demand more from my makeup in the summer. I have rounded up my Most Wanted Makeup for a busy summer with products that won’t let you down when it gets hot.

Cargo Water Resistant Blush – Honestly, I never thought that anyone would need a waterproof blush, but Cargo has given what we didn’t even know we needed. I am not recommending this blush because its waterproof though. I love it because the baked clay shade is gorgeous and it lasts all day long with just the perfect pink glow.

Olay Complete Moisturizer – I love a no nonsense face moisturizer in the summer time. Something that does it all with a sunscreen. Olay’s complete moisturizer is perfect for all skin types and with SPF 30 just right for every summer day.

Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara – Smashbox has made their most popular mascara in a waterproof formula. This is an intense black mascara that makes your lashes super thick with mascara that won’t come off for hours. Warning to users though because this mascara is so thick, you need to apply very carefully and clean the brush often. It gets clumpy easily, so you need to use with care.

Pixi Lash Line Ink – Get perfectly lined eyes that won’t smudge or budge with the summer heat. This liner is so easy to use. The pen liner has a fine tip, so you don’t have to worry about getting black liner everywhere like some liquid liners.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic Eye Shadow – This new eye shadow pencil is easy to apply with just one swipe. It doesn’t smudge and it’s practically impossible to screw up. Perfect eye shadow that can last through anything, who could ask for more.

Maybelline Color Elixir – This combines a lip colour, balm and gloss to do everything in one. It gives me a glossy shine, but rich colour. And my lips feel soft and smooth. It’s perfect for summer and affordable, so I can get one in every colour.

Proactiv Solution – Summer activities can also mean annoying breakouts. Proactiv’s three step system is perfect for anyone suffering from acne. Stick to it all summer and you won’t have to worry about having a zit on the beach.

Secret Clinical Protection Deodorant – When the temperature rises, it’s time to get serious. The rest of the year I don’t mind wearing regular deodorant, but things change in the summer. If you are getting active, once it gets humid, you need more. Clinical Protection Deodorant will stand up against anything. I have never felt more confident than when I wear this stuff. So far, nothing has been able to beat it.

Audrey Whitby Beauty Interview

Young Audrey Whitby has already started to gain a following and is following in the footsteps of so many of her Disney Channel predecessors. This weekend she’ll star in her first Nickelodeon feature film, Terry The Tomboy, and is on her way to becoming a household name. How could you not fall for this blonde belle. We caught up with the very busy Audrey Whitby to find out what she’s learned about beauty as a teen.

What is your first beauty memory?

My first beauty related memory was my mom putting hot rollers in my hair for the school play I was in. I remember loving the curls so much I wanted her to do it all the time.

What will you never leave the house without wearing?

My Mom is a southern lady and she always told me to never leave the house without lipstick and hairspray. “The bigger the hair the closer to God.”  I’m not good about the hairspray part, but I do always have some lip gloss near me.

Have you learned any makeup tricks on set?

I’m so lucky to have a team of professionals doing my makeup most of the time. They always have awesome little tips. They taught me about how if you add a little bit of water, any color eye shadow can be an eyeliner. That comes in really handy if I want to do something funky like blue eyeliner. Just put a little water on the eye shadow, use a thin liner brush, and just apply like eyeliner.

katy perry meow

Do you have a signature scent?

My signature scent is Meow by Katy Perry. It’s an awesome story because the same day they released it at Nordstrom she was doing a meet and greet. I stopped by and picked up my new favorite perfume and met one of my idols!  It was a great day.

What products will you splurge on?

I will splurge on lotion. I think moisturizing is the most important thing you can do for your skin besides keeping it clean. I have this one really fancy face cream from this spa. I’m not sure if I’m just trying to tell myself that it’s working better, but I really think it is!

What’s your latest beauty obsession?

My latest beauty obsession has been the red lip. I have this fantastic set of liner, lipstick, and lip gloss that all goes into making the perfect red lip. Thank you MAC!

Demeter Clean & Fresh Fragrance Review

Demeter has captured the smell of stepping out of the shower in their new Clean & Fresh fragrance collection. The collection has three scents: Baby Powder, Pure Soap and Clean Skin.

demeter baby powder

The Baby Powder scent smells exactly like you imagine. The powdery smell is strong and it almost feels like you just sprinkled powder onto your skin when you sprayed it. It’s so sweet and lovely it takes me back to my childhood.

Pure Soap has the smell of a new bar of soap. It’s almost an unscented smell. It’s hard to describe the smell of clean, but that is what this fragrance reminds me of.

demeter clean skin

Clean Skin is a pure smell like that of your skin after getting out of the shower. It smells like a bathroom full of the steam of floral soaps and the smell that lingers on your skin.

If you can handle the balance you can spray them all on your skin in the right combination to really get the smell of walking out of the shower. They are fun and fresh smelling. Most of my favourite perfumes remind me of clean soapy smells, so these fit right into my collection.

If there is one problem with the Demeter fragrances, it’s that they don’t last long enough. Less than an hour after you spray them on, you will barely be able to smell them on your skin. I wish that they lasted longer, because the scents are so nice I want to enjoy them all day.

MMVAs Beauty With MuchMusic’s Lauren Toyota

This weekend, MuchMusic headquarters plays host to Canada’s biggest night in music the MMVA’s. One of MuchMusic’s leading ladies Lauren Toyota will be center stage on the red carpet and with hosts Kendall and Kylee Jenner as it all goes down. To get ready for the MMVA’s we spoke to Lauren Toyota about her beauty regime and what she does to stay looking amazing.

How do you get ready for the MMVAs?

Anything I need to do to get ready for the MMVAs, like applying sunless tanner and painting my nails, is usually done the night before the show. Then I have a great hairstylist and makeup artist that come in to get me ready a couple of hours before the show!

Who is your favourite red carpet beauty celeb and why?

I really like Jennifer Aniston. She always looks put together, classic, and fresh.  It never appears as though she’s trying too hard.

What is your everyday morning beauty routine like?

If I don’t have to be on-air that day, I usually won’t wear makeup, but if I do, I use mascara and throw my hair up in a high bun. If I have to do my own makeup for work, which sometimes is the case, it takes me about an hour and fifteen minutes to do full makeup and hair. I wash and moisturize my face every morning and night with two all-natural oil products from Province Apothecary.

What will you never leave the house without wearing or applying?

I never wear makeup on my way to work or when I’m running errands on the weekend. But if I’m going out to a party or event then I definitely do full makeup including foundation, concealer, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, and a bright lipstick or just a nude gloss, depending on the outing.

Do you have any tricks that you have learned on set?

When I first started in TV I had to get myself camera-ready, so I’ve become really good at doing my makeup. Over the years I’ve observed makeup artists and have learned how to contour my face and play with eye shadow techniques. I am also really good at applying false lashes, and almost always style my own hair as well.

How do you keep your hair looking gorgeous?

My hair is pretty strong and resilient, likely because I’ve kept it one colour over the last 10 years so it hasn’t been over-exposed to chemicals. The truth is, I dye my roots once a month, I trim my bangs every one or two weeks, and if you see me on television I’m wearing clip-in extensions.

Watch the MMVA’s Sunday night where Lauren Toyota will be live!

Blo Dry Bar & Beautiful Blowouts

Like me, there a good chance that you have seen blow dry bars popping up in your town and thought why? I didn’t know why I would need a place to go just for a blow dry that wasn’t my hair dresser. To solve this mystery, I got in touch with the leaders of this hair trend, Blo Dry Bar.

Blo was the first blow dry bar in North America and the leaders with over 40 locations in North America and Asia. Sharmina Rajabali a Franchise Partner with Blo says that “We have become experts at session styling because that’s all we do! Blo is the perfect place to go in between trips to the hairdresser to maintain salon-quality locks. It is a quick, affordable and convenient luxury. After all, perfect hair equals perfect confidence.”

So I booked my appointment and headed to the Blo Dry Bar at Bayview Village in Toronto. It was early and I had a barbecue later that afternoon, so I was excited to see what they could do for my uncontrolled waves. When I went in, I was rushed into a seat quickly and asked what I wanted. I was nervous and I felt a little uncomfortable. I just said straight please, because I wasn’t sure how this worked. I was secretly envying the loose waves and braid from one of the girls working, but I didn’t know if I could ask for that.

I had my hair washed and then when I went back to the chair, I picked up the menu of Blo’s styling options. Blo doesn’t just offer regular blow outs, but an option of styles from classic to waves to straight and even braids, ponytails and buns. I asked if I could change my mind and pick loose waves for something fun.

Cristina went to work. I have had many stylists blow dry my hair over the years, but none were as fast as the crew at Blo. It wasn’t just Cristina, but everyone there was a pro at blow drying. Even though they were all focused and working fast, it didn’t feel rushed or formal. Everyone working was having a good time laughing and singing along to the radio. While at times, I felt a little but left out of the joke. Overall it made me feel more relaxed that I could sit and enjoy their company.

All the while, my hair was turning from crazy to gorgeous. My waves were looking beautiful. As each wave dropped, the smile on my face got wider and wider. When it was all done, xxx stepped back to admire her work and ask me what I thought. I was thrilled! But then she asked me how I felt about her adding a braid to my hair to keep my bangs out of my face, exactly like the girl’s hair that I admired on the way in.

When it was done, it was perfect. I walked out of Blo Dry Bar feeling amazing. I honestly don’t know if my hair has ever looked better.

I can definitely see how this could be addicting. They say there are some clients who come in every other day to keep their blow out looking amazing. I don’t know if I am that addicted yet, but maybe one day.

Bite Beauty BB For Lips

Bite Beauty BB For Lip Swatches
Tawny, Suede, Dolce, Flush

We have so many makeup options for our lips. Lipstick, glosses, stains, balms,  crayons and now Bite Beauty is introducing us to BB For Lips. These are sort of like tinted lip balms except you get a little more coverage colour wise and your lips get repaired while you wear it.
Bite Beauty BB For Lips
BB For Lips comes in five shades. Tawny, Suede, Dolce, Flush and Natural which is clear. I honestly can’t decide which of these I like the most. Each shade is sheer, goes on smoothly and my lips feel fantastic afterwards. Obviously the wear time isn’t very long but unlike lipstick that clumps, reapplying doesn’t have any drawbacks.

Each BB has Shea Butter, SPF 18 and 5 mg of Reservatrol (which Bite is known for) that delivers the equivalent of 5 glasses of red wine of antioxidants to your lips. Considering most of us tend to neglect our lips when it comes to repairing or antioxidants and generally use lip balms that don’t do anything but moisturize, I can’t help but think that Bite is on to something with BB For Lips. While I might not notice most of the effects I like the way these feel as a balm and I love the shades.

And if I get to do something good for my lips while wearing a lip balm I’m all for it.

Mary Murphy Talks Beauty

Ballroom expert Mary Murphy may be best known on So You Think You Can Dance as the ‘Queen of Scream’ and for her ‘Hot Tamale Train’ but we wanted to know how she always keeps herself looking fabulous.
sytycd_Mary Murphy 4
While talking to her we noticed that not only is she just as nice as we expected but she gets just as excited about makeup as she does the dancers on SYTYCD. But that wasn’t always the case. Mary didn’t grow up loving makeup and playing dress-up in her mother’s makeup.

“My mother never wore makeup and I was certainly a tomboy, I wouldn’t be caught dead near any of that stuff. And I grew up in such a small, little rural town nobody was really into any of that. I didn’t really have lipstick on until my junior year  and that was because I was a majorette. And I might’ve put some mascara on but had eyeshadow whatsoever and I just remember seeing a picture of me with red lipstick and mascara. That was my first time being in the spotlight and hearing applause and liking it. I had no idea, I did not grow up dancing.”

After starting dance in college, including modern dance, she didn’t quite get on the makeup train until she started ballroom dance.

“It all really started changing for me when I got into ballroom which was over the top makeup and I flip flopped in my life from being this complete tomboy to going to the other extreme. Since that moment that I went into ballroom and I fell in love with makeup and to this day I think my makeup bag gets about ten pounds heavier every year, the older I get. I love it, I’m not a one line type of person. If there’s a kit involved I’m going to figure out what I need to buy to get that extra eye kit.”
Smith's Strawberry Lip Balm
Mary may not stick to one product line but there are definitely a few beauty products she can’t live without.
Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist
“I love Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm, I love the smell. I love Jurlique’s Rosewater spray. I travel with that and there’s nothing that refreshes me more than sitting on an airplane and while my skin is dehydrating I squirt myself with this most beautiful rose water. Every time I get to a hotel room I put it on my pillows and I put it on my face when I get up in the morning. I love Anastasia’s eyebrow pencil. If I have to go out the door without doing anything else I always have to have eyebrows. I feel like you can get by with just a little mascara, some lipstick and some eyebrows and not do anything else.”
EVO Shine Spray
Any So You Think You Can Dance fan knows that Mary’s changes her hairstyle often but how does she keep her hair looking amazing?

“Since I’ve gone blond, in between I use KMS Color Vitality, which one of the hairdressers told me about. People think I’ve had my hair dyed that day once I give myself a little treatment. I also use a company called EVO, I use their shine spray right before I walked out on the show and if I feel my hair getting damaged I’ll wash my hair with their shampoo and conditioner and it really makes my hair feel good.”

Mary Murphy is on So You Think You Can Dance all summer Wednesday’s at 8pm EST on Fox and we can’t wait to see what she’s up to this season!

Ceramic Glaze Island Paradise Collection

This summer nails are pretty much all about neon. The collections are so similar but Ceramic Glaze’s Island Paradise collection stood out to me for a couple reasons. 1) the colours are gorgeous and they’re all super bright. Like see them from across the street bright. And for the most part they’re all pretty flattering for most skin tones. 2) These not only dry fast but completely matte. For the swatches I’ve done two coats and the Ceramic Glaze top coat. If you don’t want to leave these matte I would suggest using a different top coat, the Ceramic Glaze one was actually my biggest complaint about the whole collection. The brush took out huge chunks of nail polish and I had to redo a lot of nails.

Exotic Dragon Fruit
Ceramic Glaze Exotic Dragon Fruit Swatch
This was used by both of us and is by far one of our favourite shades for summer. It’s the perfect hot pink with a little shimmer and looks amazing both matte and with a shine.

I’m On Island Time
Ceramic Glaze I'm On Island Time Swatch
This is a really pretty summer peach shade, only super neon. I want to go back and use this one with white under it just to see how bright I can get it.

Lychee Cocktail
Ceramic Glaze Lychee Cocktail Swatch
Another hot pink, only this one’s a little more neon and with a little less shimmer.

Ceramic Glaze Moji-Toes Swatch
I don’t have a green anywhere close to this in my collection. It’s a full on neon green and it’s BRIGHT. Next time I use this it’ll probably be as tips on a french manicure.

Shell Me About It
Ceramic Glaze Shell Me About It
This is by far my favourite shade in the collection and the first Radiant Orchid shade I’ve seen all season that I love. I’m going to be using this one a lot.

Solar Radiance
Ceramic Glaze Solar Radiance Swatch
This is a super bright true orange. It’s the only one I had opacity issues with, I just couldn’t get away from the visible nail line. And while that usually doesn’t bug me, for some reason it did with this one.

Watermelon Cooler
Ceramic Glaze Watermelon Cooler Swatch
This was a really nice, light teal. It was just as bright as the others but didn’t seem quite so neon.

I love everything about this collection. Every shade is super summery and could work as either a mani or pedi colour. The cream shades go on really smoothly and the shimmery shades were almost as good. I see a lot of empty bottles in my future.
