Kiss Nail Dress Mix It Up in Margarita Review

I love nail art but unfortunately I’m not great at doing it on myself. When I got the chance to try Kiss Nail Dress Mix It Up in Margarita, I was all over it. I’ve been a little hesitant to try nail stickers in the past because I have pretty small nail beds and I wasn’t sure any of them would come small enough for my pinky. Luckily the kit’s smallest size fit perfectly. The Mix It Up kits are great because there are two designs that work well together so you can literally mix up how you want to do your nails.

I decided to use the black based design on most of my nails and the really colourful ones as an accent but once I was done I wished I’d done it the other way around. They’re just so pretty. With the Mix It Up kits you have enough to do your nails more than once so I’ll change it up next time.

Being right handed I decided to do my right hand first in case I failed miserably using my left hand. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to apply. There are a couple of tricks I quickly picked up on to make application easier. First make sure there’s absolutely nothing on your nails. Use nail polish remover right before you use Kiss Nail Dress and make sure they’re dry. Second, when you pull the ends under your nail, pull it as tightly against the edge of your nail as you can without tearing. That’ll make the edges comes off more evenly.

I didn’t really like the file included in the kit and I found better results with my own file. I had Kiss Nail Dress on for four days without any problems. I might not use these all the time but they’re great for travelling, random accent nails or when you want to change your nail colour but don’t want to wait for nail polish to dry.

Dippity Do Girls With Curls Review

When we first saw the press release for Dippity Do’s Girls With Curls collection, both of us were like wait a minute Dippity Do is still around? Apparently our favourite 90’s hair care line is still rocking! We couldn’t wait to be reunited with our old friend who used to be a staple in our hair care routine.

The Girls With Curls line took me right back to my pre-teens from the second I saw the bottles. The big oversized pink bottles made my inner 12 year old squeal with delight. The sweet candy smell and bright pink hue of the product made her jump up and down. The adult in me was concerned though. Just because it makes me want to put on The Spice Girls doesn’t mean it’s going to be good for my hair.

I swapped out my favourite shampoo and conditioner for these giant pink bottles. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Using no harmful chemicals, Dippity Do’s Girls With Curls collection cleaned my hair gently. It isn’t harsh on my hair at all. I might have liked it to do a little more deep cleaning, but that is more personal preference than fault of the product.

A few hours later, when my hair was dry my curls were gorgeous. Even I envied my own hair. I had lots of big volume and bounce in my hair. People were complimenting me on my wow factor hair. I was in love with Dippity Do all over again. My hair didn’t feel as clean as it could, but it looked gorgeous.

The gel in the collection is another story. While some people might want to keep their curls with this gel, I am not one of them. I understand that it will make my hair hold the curl longer, but it also made my hair stiff and sticky. To keep all of my curls intact, I would have also had a helmet of hard crusty gel. If I was going out for a night or special event, I might employ the help of this gel, but on a day to day, I won’t. Every girl was hair they can run their fingers through. Dippity Do’s Girls With Curls got me halfway there. It’s not my new favourite, but it gave me one day of gorgeous curls that I will remember for a long time.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Review

When I felt in love with bb creams, I was a convert, but Rimmel’s new Stay Matte Foundation has made me remember what a really amazing foundation can do.

Rimmel has created a foundation that stops every problem I worry about when I put on makeup in the morning. I don’t have terrible skin, but I am far from flawless. Rimmel’s foundation makes me feel flawless.

Related: Too Faced Chocolate Palette Review

Before you start, you should note. This foundation is thick and it doesn’t spread and blend well. If you have very dry skin, you might want to avoid it altogether. It is going to reveal every crack and crease with how dry it is on your face. I would recommend a good moisturizer base, which you should be doing anyways.

As I applied this foundation, I saw all of my flaws slowly disappear. The redness in my cheeks was gone. Annoying blemishes on my chin and forehead were hidden. That weird scar from when I was a kid completely vanished. Best of all, it gave me this lovely matte finish. I didn’t need to apply conceals and powder like I do with other bb creams and foundations. I found that I did need a bit of blush or bronzer to give me some colour, but otherwise, I was photoshoot ready!

I was amazed. I truly never thought I would find a foundation that did everything I wanted in one. I didn’t think this was possible. Excuse me while I wipe away a tear of joy!

Biolage Agave Nectar Control Gel Review

I don’t generally use gel, I have pretty fine, wavy, frizzy hair and whenever I think of gel, I think of high school and crunchy curls. Luckily Biolage’s Agave Nectar Control gel doesn’t bring back the crunch. Since it’s a medium hold, it helps control my frizz while taming my waves pretty well. And it doesn’t weigh down my hair. The hold lasts a pretty decent amount of time and you really don’t need a lot to get results. I used a dime sized amount in the morning, went out all day and came back with hair at night that was almost what I started with in the morning.

I love that I can use gel again without worrying about stickiness or crunchy hair and that I don’t need to use a lot to get results.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Mascara Review

I love mascara. I have reasonably long lashes but they’re almost white so I usually go for the darkest mascara I can find. For daytime though that can be a little too dark so for Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Infinite Mascara I tried out the Brown shade. This mascara claims that it’s the daring length and volume mascara. Well it’s definitely got the length part down. With only one coat it darkened my lashes perfectly and lengthened them enough that it looked like they almost reached my eyebrows. A couple coats in I got a few clumps, but for an everyday daytime look, one coat is perfect.

BB Cream Most Wanted: Steph’s Picks

When BB Creams first hit the market, I never thought I would replace my foundation. BB creams were being compared to tinted moisturizers and that just wouldn’t do. I didn’t even give it a fair shot the first few times that I used my first bb cream. Slowly, but surely, bb creams won me over. Nowadays I have an unhealthy number of bb creams.

My favourite part about these bb creams is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get something great. Yes, you can splurge on a luxury designer, but you can also get a great affordable version at the drug store. Here are my most wanted bb creams now, stay tuned as I expand my ever growing collection:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream – It’s amazing when I makeup can do so much, but feel like so little. The Smashbox bb cream feels like our natural skin, only better! Unlike many other bb creams, this little bottle lasts all day long. This is the one I save for special occasions.

Clinique Perfecting BB Cream – I love this bb cream, mostly because I forget it’s a bb cream. I think of it like a foundation. I wear it like a foundation. I love it like a foundation!

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector – This was the very first bb cream I ever tried and it’s still in my top five. I love it because for under $15 you can get great looking skin. Garnier’s BB Cream is like a thin tinted moisturizer. It’s my go to for warm summer days when I don’t want to feel like I am wearing any makeup.

Vichy Proeven BB Cream – Vichy stole my heart with this bb cream because it feels clean on my skin. Everyone knows Vichy for their attention of skincare, so you shouldn’t be surprised that their bb cream is gentle on your face. It doesn’t clog my pores. It’s light enough to be a moisturizer, with the quality of a foundation.

Marcelle BB Cream – Marcelle was my first true bb cream love. This Canadian company made the bb cream that converted me from foundation to bb cream. I will always love this product that is just the right mix of makeup and moisture.

Quo by Orly Spring 2014 Nail Polish Review

Spring always feels like a time to lighten up a little with makeup and nail polish colours so I’m more than ready for the pastels after the darker shades I always seems to settle on for winter. I’ve never tried Quo by Orly nail polish before so I was excited to try Just Kissed, a pretty, shimmery, pale lilac colour. With two coats I got pretty decent coverage and minimal streaking and the shimmer comes through with a topcoat over it. It’s a perfect shade to start off my spring nails.

Unfortunately when I tried another shade, Birthday Suit (an opalescent shade) the results weren’t so great. I don’t know if it was a bad bottle or just the formulation of the shade but even with three coats the streaking never went away and hours after I applied it I snagged a nail on a zipper and all the nail polish peeled off in a sheet.

There are four other colours in the spring collection, all perfect shades for spring with pinks and peaches. I might have had mixed results with my shades but the prettiness of Just Kissed was worth it.

Pure + Simple Spa Review

There are very few things on this earth more relaxing than a great facial. You can imagine my excitement as I headed to the Pure + Simple Spa in Toronto Yorkville neighbourhood for their signature Pure + Simple Facial after a particularly stressful week.

The location is nice, but lacking in a lot of personality, since I know that Pure + Simple is all about their natural products, I expected in interior of the store to say something about that. They did have tons of products though and really friendly staff willing to help me with anything I could possibly want.

I had other plans though and headed in for my facial. I was in for a treat. I don’t have sensitive skin, and I was glad when my face got pampered, but not babied. I really felt like every step of my facial was deep cleaning my skin.

The massage portion of the facial is always the best, but Pure + Simple has the best of the best. I didn’t want the neck and scalp massage to end!

When I left my skin felt so moisturized and dewy. Anyone who has dry skin should pop into Pure + Simple because my skin has never felt so moisturized in my entire life. I was a bit red and splotchy, but that is to be expected when you have had a deep cleaning. More than clean, I felt refreshed.

This is one spa ritual you need to try for yourself.

Review: Soap And Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Crayon

I’ve been using Soap And Glory’s hand and body creams for a while but I’ve never tried their makeup so trying out their Sexy Mother Pucker (best name ever?) Gloss Crayons was pretty exciting.

As with most gloss crayons, the colour you see on your lips is a lot less scary than the actual colour of the crayons. Nudist is pretty much the perfect nude shade for my super fair skin tone. Fucshia-Ristic is a bright pink perfect for spring days and Plum Jam is a sheer wine shade that’s just dark enough for going out at night but not too dark to make me look gothed out.

These crayons go on really smoothly and aren’t sticky at all but they’re seriously shiny. They actually feel more like a lip balm and I forgot I was wearing them after a while. Any lip product that’s that comfortable and non drying is a win for me and I’ll be using these as long as I can.
