Remember when manicures were simple? You would wear just one shiny colour on your nails. Now you have a whole list of different options and textures to choose from. OPI’s cool little sister the Nicole By OPI line is getting in on the fun with their new Roughles line.
Nicole by OPI is a little late to the party since everyone else already has a textured nail polish available, so they offered us something a little different. The Roughles nail polish doesn’t just offer a textured colour, but there are flecks of different colour to give it depth. The purple has aqua touches, the yellow has hints of orange and so on. There are many rough nail polishes, but not many have this cool speckled effect when they dry.

Speaking of the colour, this is possibly the cutest nail polish collection I have ever had the pleasure of owning. The sweet pastel candy colours are perfect for spring. When I did my nail, I felt like I was ready for Easter.
The Nicole by OPI Roughles go on your nails like a dream. They dry really fast and since they have a matte textured finish, you don’t even have to waste time applying a top coat.
I probably don’t need another textured nail polish in my collection, but these Nicole by OPI Roughles are very welcome. If you are looking for a sweet way to celebrate spring, these will definitely do.
Every girl loves a dozen roses, so clearly Bite Beauty has a winning collection with the Bite Beauty Deconstructed Roses Collection inspired by the romantic flower. Not only was this makeup collection inspired by the colour of roses, but also the scent.
Bite added essential oils to their high shine lip gloss and lip stick for a rose scented kiss that sounds like it is to die for.
I love nothing better than rocking a red lip and this collection has more than enough options with 12 lip glosses and four lipsticks. We’ll be test driving these shades soon, so stay tuned to see the stunning shades in action.

One of my biggest pet peeves about makeup is how long it lasts. You spend an hour getting every inch of your face looking perfect, leave the house and then when you hit the bathroom, your eye shadow seems to have magically disappeared or been absorbed into your skin. Now you can get the new Smashbox 24 Hour Shadow Primer to stop all that.
The new Smashbox Primer promises to keep your eye shadow smudge prof, crease proof and fade proof for a full day. It’s even sweat resistant, so it will totally work in the club or at a wedding where you can put your makeup to the test.
The new Smashbox 24 Hour Shadow Primer hits stores in April and we can’t wait to try it.
In the meantime check out our review of the amazing Smashbox Full Exposure Palette.
I don’t wear foundation very often but when I do I need a primer under it so my skin doesn’t dry out and flake. Luckily there are so many amazing ones to choose from and it seems like they all do different things. These are my most wanted primers.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish
This one might seem obvious. It’s a cult favourite and probably the most well known primer out there but there’s a reason for that. It works. It goes on smoothly and helps keep your makeup in place. It’s the first primer I’d ever used and I still keep some around at all times.
Clinique Superprimer Colour Corrects Dullness
This one is pretty new to me and I don’t know how I lived without it. It feels amazing going on and your skin feels soft all day. It looks pink out of the tube but doesn’t really leave a colour on your skin. Instead it brightens up your complexion and leaves you glowing, even under makeup. This is my absolute favourite on the list.
Rimmel Stay Matte
I use this one alone on days that I’m a little shiny. It does exactly what the name says, it stays matte all day. It’s not heavy and you’ll forget you have anything on your face but the shine is gone.
Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer
I use this one two different ways. The first is under foundation as a primer that adds a little glow. The second is as a spot highlighter. It does both really well. Use it sparingly though, it highlights a lot.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
This is the best primer I’ve tried for eyeshadow. Once you put your shadow on over it, it’s there until you take it off. And in a few cases that’s been the next day. There really isn’t enough I can say about this primer. If you have problems with eyeshadow fading or creasing give it a try.
There are so many more primers I haven’t tried yet and more that I have but these are my most wanted picks.
I hate when nighttime skincare routines end up having 10 different steps and take forever. If you’re wearing a lot of makeup (especially eye makeup) it can take a couple cleansing cloths to get it all off and then you’re supposed to wash your face afterwards. And if you have sensitive skin it becomes so much more difficult.
Enter Bioderma’s Sensibio H20. This micelle solution took your multi step routine to get your makeup off and clean your skin into 1 step. It only took 1 cotton pad soaked in this stuff to get off all my makeup, even the stubborn mascara that never completely comes off was gone. And my eyes didn’t burn. All you have to do is pat down your face after and you’re onto the next thing in your regime.
The fact that my super sensitive skin didn’t sting or turn red is getting this product a permanent place in my skincare collection.
If you love spa treatments but find them a little expensive, don’t worry, spa week is coming! If you’re in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton or Ottawa you might want to book off some time April 21-27. Spas in each city will be offering treatments for $50 each (and some of these are originally $300)!
To see what’s offered near you and to book appointments go to http://www.wayspa.com/spaweek. You should probably do it soon because at this price space will probably run out. I wonder how many treatments you’d be able to fit in a week?
One of the things I love most about OPI is that they’re always releasing new products. The sheer tints are meant to be a top coat that changes the colour of the nail polish that you’re already wearing. I saw a video that shows you how to do an ombre effect using only the Sheer Tints so I decided to try it with the I Can Teal You Like Me shade.
The things about the Sheer Tints is that it’s a pretty thick consistency. So using super thin coats took a long time to figure out. There were also the strange thready things that happened every time I took the brush out of the bottle. On my second try at the ombre I figured out a couple things really quickly. Make the coats as thing as you possibly can and wait longer than you think you should between coats (I ended up waiting 10 minutes between each one) and literally don’t move for half an hour after you’re done.
The Sheer Tints are such a cool idea and I love that there’s such an easy way to change up the nail polish you already have. There are 6 shades to pick from so there’s a lot of opportunity for playing around and variety. I’m going to see what else I can do with them.
Here’s a link to the tutorial video if you want to try the ombre.
There are so many neutral palettes coming out lately and I love them but at some point you want a little more variety. Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar palette is a great alternative. With shades in the brown, pink and plum families along with matte and shimmer shades; there’s something for every occasion. I love that the base shades (White Chocolate and Champagne Truffle) come in a larger size since those are always the ones that run out first.
Not only are the colours gorgeous and long lasting but they’re made with real cocoa which is supposedly good for your skin. And it actually smells like chocolate! Want a quick chocolate fix? Grab the Chocolate Bar palette and throw on some eyeshadow.
I always dreamed of the day when I would grow up and grow out of those inconvenient breakouts. Then I got older and realized that acne never ends! Adult acne is the worst! When you see a break out you are instantly embarrassed and transported back to the horrible days of high school. You are always worried that people will think you don’t wash your face, or eat too much junk food, or are totally stressed. Just because you suffer from adult acne doesn’t mean you want to feel like a kid using the same products on your face to get rid of a zit. Luckily, as an adult there are a whole new group of adult friendly acne fighters that you won’t be embarrassed about using.
Garnier Pure Control
It probably sounds too good to be true, but it isn’t. Garnier really does make an affordable and effective acne line that is so simple and foolproof. I got addicted to the Deep Pore Exfoliating Cream Scrub pretty quickly for giving my face a deep clean. They also have this amazing duo that is perfect for on the go. There is the Targeted Gel Treatment and Anti-Pimple Tinted Roller that are discreet treatment and concealer to cover up the redness.
Vichy Normaderm Hyaluspot
This targeted blemish control makes fighting acne feel good. The gel is powerful, but is doesn’t dry out your skin or get sticky. It feels like the mature version of your teenage acne fighters.
Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control
When I found out that Smashbox was making a primer to help me fight acne and keep my skin clean, I knew there was finally a brand who really understood me. This is really is so much more than a primer for under my foundation. It’s a protecting layer and a salicylic acid acne treatment. It doesn’t even feel like you are fighting acne, just going about your normal makeup routine.
GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment
If your skin needs some serious repair this face mask is your secret weapon. The white version of GlamGlow is a super strong skin cleaning system that will get in your pores and clear out all of those acne causing bacteria. Warning though, this puppy is strong, so girls with sensitive skin need not apply.
Ardency Inn was named one of the top new beauty lines, so you know we had to try out their new Americana collection to see what all of the hype is about. The collection is full of natural hues inspired by the rock and diversity of New York City. This means that while their older collection have been pretty bold, this Ardency Inn line is pretty safe.
All of the lip colours in the line are naturally coloured. So while they were nice, they didn’t really wow me. Don’t get me wrong, they felt nice on, but it was clearly the no lipstick lipstick look. Even if it does look gorgeous, it wasn’t something to get excited about.
The Primer and Custom Coverage Concentrate was another story. It’s rare when a foundation comes with instructions, but that’s how intense this little bottle is. You can’t use Ardency Inn’s coverage concentrate like your regular foundation because it’s not. You need to use a very small amount with their primer (or your everyday moisturizer). You use one or two pumps, mix it all together, and then apply.
Because you are mixing it with the primer, you get a nice applications and smooth finish. It’s still a very intense coverage. This is more like the kind of foundation they use on photo shoots than you want to be wearing every day. I will probably save it for weddings or big nights on the town.
The other option is to use more moisturizer and less concentrate to give you more of a tinted moisturizer feel than foundation. I think this is a better bet for most. That way it will also be well worth the money because it could last a long time and cover up everything.
