Lise Watier Hydraforce BB

Lise Watier is changing the way that you think about BB creams. When you see the words BB, you probably think more of a foundation type product. Other BB creams have coverage from light to full coverage giving you a different option from your regular foundation combo. Lise Watier’s Hydraforce BB isn’t like that.

When you go on their website, you might have a hard time finding it, because this BB isn’t in makeup, it’s in skincare.

Lise Watier has made a BB cream that is ready to protect your skin first. This cream is really moisturizing. It has a slight tint in it, but it’s not enough for any kind of coverage. Look elsewhere if you want to hide blemishes or discolouration. This is all about moisture.

I did find that Lise Watier’s BB cream made my face a bit shiny. I know that is part of the product giving me a healthy glow, but it’s too shiny for my liking.

If you need a new tinted moisturizer, I would recommend giving this a try, just know that it’s a moisturizer.

Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 in Fair

Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Compact
I’ve been a huge Clinique fan since high school and while I love some of their products an insane amount, they haven’t released a ton of things that have completely changed the way I wear makeup. Until now. I haven’t used many of the new foundation cushions because the one’s we get are always too dark for me. Luckily, Clinique sent over the fair shade of their new Super City Block BB Cushion and at first glance, I was convinced that it was too dark for me as well.
Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion Compact - Fair
It’s actually the perfect shade for my face! Using it is a dream. You tap the puff on the product and you can build up to whatever coverage you want. The SPF 50 in it is a physical sunscreen, so it actually works (I still use another one under it). The finish is dewy and healthy.

I don’t usually wear foundation on a daily or even weekly basis and when I do wear it in the summer, it’s usually a tinted moisturizer. This Super City Block Cushion though lasts so long in the heat and is so easy to apply that I’ve been using it extremely regularly. I don’t normally love face makeup but this is going to be something I use for years to come. I love that fact that it’s refillable as well.

Right now these are only available online and will be hitting stores soon. But you can’t wait that long, trust me.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water

Since it first starting hitting stores, I have been a huge fan of BB Creams. Smashbox surprised me when they reinvented the idea with their new BB Water.

As you can gather from the name this face makeup is thin, very thin. The makeup in the dropper really does have a water-like consistency. When you rub it into your face it’s impossible to notice just how thin and light it is. You will also notice how moisturizing it is.

This Smashbox BB Water is more like a moisturizer or primer than it is a foundation. It rubs into your face easily and is absorbed right away, but it doesn’t cover blemishes, or redness, or any other skin issues. It doesn’t give the proper coverage that you would expect from a BB cream.

If this product was positioned as a primer, I might have fallen in love with it. As a BB Cream though, I’m not entirely sold. After applying this product, I felt like I needed to apply my regular BB cream over top. If you don’t usually wear foundation, this could be the product for you. It is the perfect middle ground for something to bridge the gap between makeup, primer and moisturizer.

Marcelle DD Cream

Marcelle DD creamI already have my favourite BB cream and CC cream, so now I’m moving on up! DD Cream stands for Daily Defense, which is a good thing for anyone’s skin in my books. I wasn’t sure if this new product from Marcelle was meant to be a moisturizer or foundation. It says it can be worn alone or under makeup. I figured that I would be able to tell once I put it on.

It looks like an extremely thick foundation. It’s so thick that you have to be careful how much you apply.  It doesn’t spread well, but don’t use that as a reason to apply extra. A little goes a long way.

This DD Cream leaves your skin with great moisture. My skin feels cool, moist and refreshed. My face has a nice glow. It is tinted, but not enough that it could double for foundation per se. It also doesn’t seem to be covering any blemishes.

While I wouldn’t want to leave the house wearing just this DD cream, you also don’t need to wear a full face of makeup on top. I found that when I wore Marcelle’s DD cream, all I needed was a bit of bronzer and some powder and I was ready to roll. It’s great for a weekend when you don’t need to cover up pesky blemishes.

I feel like this first DD cream to the market is really innovative and it’s going to be just the start of a new trend. I can’t wait to see where Marcelle take it!

Winter’s New BB Creams & CC Creams

With winter coming, it’s time to pull out the thick, skin loving moisturizers. There are a new gang of BB creams and CC creams that are thick and creamy and perfect for dry winter skin. See which ones we want on our team:
Olay Total Effects CC Cream
Olay Total Effects CC Cream – If you want a CC cream that you can trust with your face then Olay’s Total Effects CC Cream is your best bet. This cream smells like your favourite Olay moisturizer with a light perfume smell. Olay’s CC Cream is thick, but not so thick that is it clumpy. It easily spreads over your skin in a thin layer that you can barely feel. It absorbs into your skin quickly leaving you with a dewy glow. It’s perfect for those no makeup days.
Aveeno Clear Complextion BB Cream
Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream – Aveeno newest BB cream does double duty. First it is a powerful moisturizer. With it’s light floral scent, it doesn’t even really feel like makeup. This BB Cream is surprisingly thick. It doesn’t spread as easily as some other BB creams, but it feels great on your face. It almost seems to illuminate your face. Aveeno’s BB cream has hidden powers though. It is also made to help reduce the appearance of blemishes, marks from past acne and help prevent future breakouts. I thought my skin was just getting better naturally, but when I realized it was Aveeno’s BB cream helping out, I was sold.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin CC Cream
Neutrogena Healthy Skin CC Cream – This CC Cream is the least like makeup and the most like an everyday moisturizer. Of all of the new winter makeup, this one was the most fragrant. If that kind of thing is a problem for you, steer clear of this cream. When it comes out of the tube, it doesn’t look thick at first glance. When you go to spread it, then you realize how thick it is. It leaves a protective layer on your skin that you can feel, but not in a bad heavy way. You need to give it a minute to dry and then it leaves your skin feeling moisturized and healthy. It doesn’t give much in the way of makeup coverage. It’s perfect for weekend days when you want moisturizing without something too heavy.
Marcelle BB Cream
Marcelle BB Cream – This BB Cream actually feels like a balm. If you have sensitive skin, especially in winter, this is an essential product. It’s a moisturizer, a primer and it gives you an even skintone all in one step. In typical Marcelle fashion it’s hypo-allergenic and recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association. It also comes in six shades which is pretty much unheard of for BB Creams, so they’ve got almost everyone covered. And it feels amazing on your skin.

Dr. Jart BB Cream Review

Dr. Jart is a master at skin care, so the next reasonable step is for us to start trusting them with our face makeup. Their line of BB Cream is promising to have something for everyone. There is the Black Label Detox (Age defense and hide blemishes), Water Fuse (Moisturizing), Radiance (Brightening and protecting), and Renewalist (Brightening and anti-aging). We were lucky enough to try them all to see the differences.

All of Dr. Jart’s BB Cream wear very nicely. The smooth consistency spreads on your skin easily. It is light coverage. It doesn’t feel heavy on your face. It doesn’t provide perfect coverage. I still needed my everyday concealer and powder to finish the job.

Overall, I didn’t notice much of a difference between each of the bb cream. The Water Fuse moisturizing BB Cream feels most different. It is thicker than the others. It felt tacky on my skin and dried slowly. You can feel that this is the moisturizing cream. The other creams all feel relatively similar. Even though they are the same, they are still worth a try if you need something that will protect your skin.

BB Cream Most Wanted: Steph’s Picks

When BB Creams first hit the market, I never thought I would replace my foundation. BB creams were being compared to tinted moisturizers and that just wouldn’t do. I didn’t even give it a fair shot the first few times that I used my first bb cream. Slowly, but surely, bb creams won me over. Nowadays I have an unhealthy number of bb creams.

My favourite part about these bb creams is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get something great. Yes, you can splurge on a luxury designer, but you can also get a great affordable version at the drug store. Here are my most wanted bb creams now, stay tuned as I expand my ever growing collection:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream – It’s amazing when I makeup can do so much, but feel like so little. The Smashbox bb cream feels like our natural skin, only better! Unlike many other bb creams, this little bottle lasts all day long. This is the one I save for special occasions.

Clinique Perfecting BB Cream – I love this bb cream, mostly because I forget it’s a bb cream. I think of it like a foundation. I wear it like a foundation. I love it like a foundation!

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector – This was the very first bb cream I ever tried and it’s still in my top five. I love it because for under $15 you can get great looking skin. Garnier’s BB Cream is like a thin tinted moisturizer. It’s my go to for warm summer days when I don’t want to feel like I am wearing any makeup.

Vichy Proeven BB Cream – Vichy stole my heart with this bb cream because it feels clean on my skin. Everyone knows Vichy for their attention of skincare, so you shouldn’t be surprised that their bb cream is gentle on your face. It doesn’t clog my pores. It’s light enough to be a moisturizer, with the quality of a foundation.

Marcelle BB Cream – Marcelle was my first true bb cream love. This Canadian company made the bb cream that converted me from foundation to bb cream. I will always love this product that is just the right mix of makeup and moisture.
