I started using Clinique’s Black Honey Almost Lipstick while I was in high school in the ’90’s but I haven’t been using it much the past few years. Now that all things 90’s are coming back Clinique released a Sephora exclusive Black Honey Wardrobe, a Black Honey Affair All About Shadow Palette to go along with it’s cult fave Almost Lipstick.
The shades are exactly what you’d expect to go with the Black Honey Almost Lipstick. The left four shades are warm neutrals (including a shade called Black Honey) and the right four are on the purple end of the spectrum. It also includes a dual ended brush.
I’ve been using the left side almost exclusively for daytime and the right side for night. But all the shades work really well together and blend seamlessly. The actual Almost Lipstick is just as great as I remember. A sheer wash of colour that’s totally buildable, I really wonder why I stopped using it.
I wish the shadow palette wasn’t limited edition because I’m going to want another one when I empty the one I have but at least I’ve redisovered my love for the Black Honey Almost Lipstick. And since they sell one every three minutes, I’m guessing it won’t be a problem to replace it when I run out.
Fall is here, but it’s still as warm as ever. This is making it hard for us to update our makeup to fall colours and products. Here is what we are loving this month.
Butter London Moisture Matte Lipstick
Silky, sexy and perfectly matte, Butter London lipstick gives me everything I want in fall lips. Glossy is fun for summer, but for fall I have always loved matte lips. Butter London’s lipstick is impossibly matte. It’s almost dry. I love it. You can always add a clear gloss on top if you want something shiny for a night on the town.
Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum
Not everyone is sure exactly what skin type and issues are. I don’t have the time or money to go to a dermatologist. That’s why I love Clinique’s new Smart Serum. I does the work for me. It will fix the issues you have like dark spots, lines or firmness. It doesn’t matter if you don’t need all of the effects like uneven skintone or wrinkles. It helps everyone.
Pupa Cover Cream Concealer
I love this Pupa Concealer because it’s no fuss. I twist up the cream, apply where I need it and forget about it. That’s exactly what you want in a concealer, something you can forget about and trust.
Marcelle 3 in 1 Micellar Solution
This liquid cleans, removes makeup and soothes skin easily. I love it because it doesn’t make my skin feel dry or greasy. My face just feels clean and dry. It’s great for late nights too because I don’t need to rinse.
Beyonce Heat Rush Perfume
Ok, I know this isn’t new. I’ve had this perfume for a while. I rarely wore it. For some reason, this month I was drawn to the orange perfume. I think it was the unseasonably warm weather that made me turn to the fruity passion fruit and blood orange scent. I have never gotten so many compliments on my perfume. Everyone from my boyfriend to best friend was telling me how great I smell. Thanks Bey for making this summer end with a bang!
I’ve been using Clinique’s Chubby Sticks on my lips for what feels like forever and I love how easy they are. Clinique’s new Chubby Sticks Cheek Colour Balm is just as easy. The packaging is almost identical (the cheek balms are thicker) and they just glide on your skin.
You don’t need any tools except your fingers. Just dot the shade you like along your cheekbones, blend in with your fingers and you’re done.
They go on pretty sheer but build up for more colour if you want it. The Cheek Colour Balm only comes in four shades but they’re universally flattering, so there’s a shade out there for everyone. I’ve tried mixing a couple shades together and since they blend so easily, I got great results.
Clinique made the Chubby Sticks Cheek Colour Balms so easy to use even the most makeup challenged can use them without looking overdone.
If there’s one makeup product I won’t leave the house without, it’s mascara. Although my eyelashes are a pretty decent length, on their own their basically white. These are my most wanted mascaras (and a primer) right now.
Clinique Lash Power Feathering Mascara
This is my go to for daytime when I don’t want to up the drama too much but still want great lashes. It really separates and defines my lashes without going volume crazy. I’m not sure anything feathers but as long as it works I don’t care what it’s called.
Cargo HD Picture Perfect Mascara
This is the most recent addition to my mascara collection and it’s quickly becoming one of my favourites. I get volume and length and it looks like I have way more lashes than I actually do. It has a little ball on the end of the brush meant for bottom lashes but I use it to catch all my tiny lashes on top instead. Since my previous favourite mascara has been discontinued, it seems like this is going to be the one replacing it.
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
This mascara is a classic for a reason. It really gives you great definition and length. I don’t get as much volume as I would necessarily like but with the tiny ball on the end that you use vertically my lashes look amazing when I use it.
Maybelline Volume Express Pumped Up! Mascara
If I’m buying mascara at a drugstore it’s almost always going to be Maybelline. Their mascara seems to always make my lashes look fantastic. The newest part of their Volume Express Line, Pumped Up! is no exception. One coat and I have crazy length and volume. Two coats and it looks like I’m wearing falsies without the work.
Estee Lauder Lash Primer Plus
Although it’s not technically a mascara, if I’m going to be wearing more than a basic coat then I’m definitely using this primer first. It helps my lashes from getting dried out and clumpy and it’s definitely made some not so great mascaras work a lot better. If you wear a lot of mascara you definitely need this.
I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list constantly as I’m always on the hunt for my new favourite mascara but let us know what your fave is!
I don’t wear foundation very often but when I do I need a primer under it so my skin doesn’t dry out and flake. Luckily there are so many amazing ones to choose from and it seems like they all do different things. These are my most wanted primers.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish
This one might seem obvious. It’s a cult favourite and probably the most well known primer out there but there’s a reason for that. It works. It goes on smoothly and helps keep your makeup in place. It’s the first primer I’d ever used and I still keep some around at all times.
Clinique Superprimer Colour Corrects Dullness This one is pretty new to me and I don’t know how I lived without it. It feels amazing going on and your skin feels soft all day. It looks pink out of the tube but doesn’t really leave a colour on your skin. Instead it brightens up your complexion and leaves you glowing, even under makeup. This is my absolute favourite on the list.
Rimmel Stay Matte
I use this one alone on days that I’m a little shiny. It does exactly what the name says, it stays matte all day. It’s not heavy and you’ll forget you have anything on your face but the shine is gone.
Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer I use this one two different ways. The first is under foundation as a primer that adds a little glow. The second is as a spot highlighter. It does both really well. Use it sparingly though, it highlights a lot.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance This is the best primer I’ve tried for eyeshadow. Once you put your shadow on over it, it’s there until you take it off. And in a few cases that’s been the next day. There really isn’t enough I can say about this primer. If you have problems with eyeshadow fading or creasing give it a try.
There are so many more primers I haven’t tried yet and more that I have but these are my most wanted picks.
