Makeup Most Wanted November 2017

It literally feels like it was just yesterday that I was writing my Most Wanted of October and now I’m onto the November list. We have a ton of posts coming up this month with all things holiday, so it was fairly hard to narrow down the list of what I used in November, but it turns out these have been taking up space next to sink for quite a while and that means I’ve been using them a lot.

Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Frizz Control Styling Spray with Lavender

I’m constantly looking for anything that’ll take away my frizz and this lightweight spray does a good job of minimizing it without making my hair crunchy or sticky. I find I need to use this one with another product for various styling issues but I can use it to touch up dry hair and it smells really really good. That said, if you’re not a fan of lavender, I’d stay away.

nia Sunday Detox Whipped Clay Peel-Off Mask

nia is StriVectin’s millenial friendly skin care line that’s available at Ulta in the U.S. or Shoppers Drug Mart/Murale in Canada. All the products have really cute names and better yet, they work. This mask has a definitely learning curve. It starts off as a foam and dries down so that you can peel it off. You need enough product that you’re able to peel it off but the foam makes that tricky. The best way I’ve found to do it is layers. I do about three thin layers of foam (you’ll have to wash your hands between each one) and let them dry for about 30 seconds before adding more. Once it’s dry though, it’s the gentlest peel-off mask I’ve ever used. I can get the whole thing off in one piece and even if I get a bit in my hair line, I don’t feel it tugging off. If your skin is on the drier side, you might need a richer moisturizer after.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk

As someone who generally prefers a powder blush I was really surprised at how much I love this cream one. I shouldn’t really be too surprised though, I haven’t tried anything I haven’t loved from Glossier. I prefer the Dusk shade, it’s a peachy shade that’s really neutral, even on my super fair skin. You really only need a tiny bit of Cloud Paint. Squeezing the tube is going to get you way too much, so I just gently shake it over my finger. Layering is super easy and it’s extremely blendable.

Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette

I am really not a fan of this red/pink eyeshadow trend, so I wasn’t sure if I would love this palette as much in person as I did online. But I really do. Peach Butter makes the perfect base shade, while Fresh-Picked and Peach Cobbler are great crease shades for me. I still haven’t really gotten into the darker shades yet but I’ve been using this delicious peach-smelling palette exclusively for daytime. As usual with Too Faced, the shadows are really creamy, blendable and have zero fallout that I’ve seen.

Spring Cleaning Face Masks Most Wanted

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your closet. Give your face a little TLC with these face masks that are just what you need.

lush-cup-o-coffee-face-and-body-mask

Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face And Body Mask

Bring your morning coffee into the shower with you courtesy of Lush. This new Face and Body Mask is amazing for revitalizing your skin. We already knew that coffee was great for increasing blood flow in the skin, so it’s no wonder that Lush would tap into this natural product. The main component is fresh coffee grounds, which is great for exfoliating. The addition of the agave syrup is sweet and moisturizing. It really makes my face feel and look amazing. It’s a huge added bonus that it smells like my morning cup of joe.

Acure_Facial_Mask

Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask

Freshen up that face the all-natural way with this great green mask from Acure. The main detoxifier in this little bottle is the green clay. It helps to pull out everything from your skin and leave it feeling full refreshed. This mask dries, but it doesn’t get so tight that it pulls or dries out your skin. Thanks to the addition of argan oil in the mask, my face feels moisturized after rinsed. My face feels oh so smooth. I didn’t even need to lather on moisturizer like I do after some masks. My face felt refreshed and looked perfect.

anti-wrinkle_oxygen_infusion_smoothing_mask

StriVectin Oxygen Infusion Smoothing Mask

Need a face mask that is undoubtedly different from anything you’ve ever used before? This Strivectin Oxygen Mask is so much fun to try. The foam goes on fairly smooth, but when it touches your skin the mask activates. The mask bubbles up against your skin and you can feel the little oxygen bubbles popping. It gives you a light exfoliation that leaves your face feeling very refreshed. There’s none of the drying out that you sometimes get with intensive masks. Just nice soft skin!

The Estee Edit Pink Peony Overnight Water PackThe Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Pink Peony Overnight Water Mask

If you love masks but hate waiting, an overnight mask might be a good idea. The Pink Peony Overnight Water Mask does everything you want a moisturizing mask to do. It soaks into your skin really quickly but instead of waiting ten minutes to take it off, you go to sleep and wake up with soft, hydrated glowing skin. It has pink peony to soothe your skin and a goji berry, blueberry, cranberry and hyaluronic acid combination gives your skin energy and a long lasting boost of moisture. It also smells as great as it works. Why do the work when you can get results from just sleeping?

Splurge Worthy Holiday Gift Set – Fresh Mask Must Haves

Fresh Mask Must Haves

I am a mask fanatic! I am truly obsessed! I love using all different types of face masks. When I first saw this Fresh Mask Must Haves gift set, I thought I was dreaming. With four of fresh’s best masks all in one place, this is a gift that I needed!

First, there is the cooling and soothing Rose Face Mask, which smells absolutely amazing. This is more of your every day mask for anyone’s skin. Next, the Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask that soothes and firms while you sleep using natural ingredients. For a deeper clean, there is the Sugar Face Polish that uses sugar and strawberry seeds to clean those pores. Finally, the Umbrian Clay Mattifying Mask that you can use as a cleanser or mask for oily skin.

Available at Sephora and their own website for just $80 this isn’t really much of a holiday splurge, but it is if you buy two: one for a friend and one for yourself. I see a lot of spa days coming up in my future.

Lush New Fresh Face Masks

Lush Face Masks Fall '15
I’ve been using Lush’s fresh face masks for years and they don’t add new ones very often so I was thrilled when they announced not one but three brand new masks. You can normally only buy Lush’s masks in-store because they have to be refrigerated but Cup O’Coffee is available online and can be kept on the counter. It also has a much longer shelf life. Rosy Cheeks and Don’t Look At Me are both the typical, refrigerated type.
Don’t Look At Me
Lush Don't Look At Me
At first look, the colour of Don’t Look At Me is gorgeous. If you’re a fan of Ocean Salt, this is almost a mask version. It has a little bit of the same scent but actually smells more like Fruit Loops. Don’t Look At Me is good for normal to oily skin and the lemon in it is great for dark spots.
Cup O’Coffee
Lush Cup O' Coffee
I live off of coffee, so a mask that’s made of it? Yes please! This scrubby mask is good for your face and body and while Ocean Salt turns my skin bright red, this one is a little more gentle. The clay base does harden and you get a good scrub when you take it off. Unfortunately one of the scents in it caused me to have a couple sneezing fits, so I wasn’t able to keep it on long but I still got great results after two minutes.
Rosy Cheeks
Lush Rosy Cheeks
My all time favourite scent from Lush is of the Ro’s Argan, Rose Jam variety and Rosy Cheeks smells exactly the same. I have a tendency to use my Lush masks while I’m in the shower and when I use this one with my other rose products the shower smells amazing. This calamine based mask would work great with Fresh Farmacy and is great for my sensitive, combination skin. It dried out the oilier parts of my skin but didn’t leave the rest feeling tight and dried out. This has quickly replaced Oatifix as my favourite Lush mask. Too bad everytime I’ve tried to buy another one it’s been sold out.

There was already a Lush mask for every skin type but these are fantastic new additions to an already great lineup. If you can get to a Lush store you might want to pick one or more of these up. And try layering Cup O’Coffee over Rosy Cheeks, it’s amazing.

August Masks Most Wanted

The summer we often forget about our skin, but a good mask can help bring back some moisture and smoothness after long days out in the sun. If you want to pamper yourself, try these interesting new masks.

Eyeko Hydrogel Eye Patch

Eyeko Hydrogel Eye Patch – I’ve been spending late nights on the patio to take advantage of every minute of the warm weather. I found these little eye patches to erase the evidence of these late nights. Made for brightening eyes and reducing the look of stress and fatigue, these gel eye patches from eyeko are the next step in reducing bags. The gel patches are gooey and damp to apply. You leave them on for 30 minutes, so get ready with a show on Netflix to pass the time. I found they never quite stuck to my face, so I had to stay still and keep adjusting them to be in the right place. They are cooling, so if you want to soothe puffy eyes, these will definitely help. They are also very moisturizing, so they would be great for dry skin. For everything else, I’m not so sure. I didn’t notice a big change in any dark circles or fatigue. It didn’t hurt to try though, and I caught up on the next episode of Modern Family.

the face shop nail mask

The Face Shop Paraffin Nutrition Nail Pack – This summer has been rough on my nails. I have been breaking them playing sports and digging in the garden. I’ve never heard of masks for my nails, but I am willing to try almost anything in the name of beauty. I thought these would be a full glove. I was surprised to see the little finger covers in the package. They were really moist and slippery and kind of hard to get on by myself. I made it work though and sat enjoying another episode of Modern Family while my nails soaked in the moisture. My fingers were left with an oily and slightly sticky feel after removing the pads that I couldn’t quite clean off. I tried to give myself a manicure after, but the nail polish didn’t want to stick to my newly moisturized nails. Whether the mask actually helped strengthen my brittle nails only time will tell, but it definitely gave my cuticles a much needed moisturizing and they look great!

Hada Labo Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial Mask

Hada Labo Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial Mask – All the way from Japan this face mask is packed full of moisturizer. After long days on the beach, my face could use it! This cotton mask is packed with a full bottle of anti-aging serum. You might think they are exaggerating, but they aren’t. There is so much moisturizer all over this mask. When you put it on your face, it is soft, wet and cooling. My face isn’t that dry, so this mask was a bit overkill for me. When I removed the mask I was supposed to just rub in the moisturizer, but not rinse it off. I followed the instructions, but part of me really wanted to wipe it off. The next day my face was still extremely moist. This will be great to keep around for those dry winter months.

Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Exfoliating Firming Tea Mask

Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Exfoliating Firming Tea Mask – There is something to be said about a face mask that is quick and easy, especially when your summer days are so busy. This little tube of firming face mask is packed full of four different teas and coffee just like you will be drinking to relax. This mask is very thin compared to most others, so it takes more to give your face good coverage. It doesn’t harden like you imagine if you have used a lot of other face masks. Even though it’s thin, this makes gives your face a soft finish in just 10 minutes. It’s perfect as part of your prep to get ready for a busy day or night on the town, even if you don’t have a lot of time.

Spring Face Masks Most Wanted – Alyssa Tries

Stephanie posted her spring face mask picks yesterday and now it’s my turn. Apparently I like my masks with tea in them.
boscia Green Tea Mattifying Hydrogel Mask
boscia Green Tea Mattifying Hydrogel Mask
This mask took a little bit of work to get used to. It’s a sheet mask but it’s got quite a slimy feel to it. Once you get it on properly and let it do it’s thing, it’s amazing. It left my skin feeling amazingly refreshed, and it was definitely mattifying. They’re only $10 CDN at Sephora so I’ve already grabbed another one. This mask comes in two other varieties as well.
StriVectin Instant Revitalizing Mask
StriVectin Instant Revitalizing Mask
This mask is probably the most classic of my picks. It applies really creamy and you only need a thin layer so a little goes a long way. It gets drier as it sets and once it’s comes off your skin feels really soft. I almost didn’t want to use moisturizer after. If you have super dry skin, I’d skip this one but for everyone else that wants really soft and glowy skin, you should take a look at this one.
Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask
Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask
I adore Royal Apothic’s packaging and I love that you can buy this mask in a tub with six tubes or you can buy one individually. This mask isn’t just for your face. You can use it on your mask, neck, hands or anywhere you want a little tightening up. It has a little bit of a grain to it, so you get a good scrub when you’re removing it, which I love.
fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask
Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask
There are literally no words for how much I love this mask. The texture is so unique, almost like a whipped balm and it’s so refreshing to apply. This mask doesn’t get dry while it sets and even though it says to leave it on for 5-10 minutes, after five my skin just looks seriously fabulous. I don’t know how it works but it does. If you want hydrated, glowing skin you need to try this mask.
Lotus Aroma Pink Clay Soothing Mask
Lotus Aroma Pink Clay Soothing Mask
When my skin gets really sensitive, this is the mask I reach for. The pink clay doesn’t get overly dry but I can feel it really pulling stuff out of my skin, in a good way. the result leaves me with super smooth skin that has way less redness than before.
