Dessange Paris is bringing the salon feel to your hair at home with this balancing collection. If you are looking for something totally different, then keep on reading.
This hair care line starts very different than any other hair line you use. You start with the Dessange Paris Purifying Clay Pre-Shampoo Mask. This hair mask is made to help oily scalps by absorbing all of that oil before you get in the shower. You have to use a little brush to apply this green clay all over your scalp. You are going to look silly and probably make a bit of a mess. That is just a warning! Now you have to wait about five to ten minutes before you hop in the shower to rinse it all out.
Once you get in the shower, it’s now time for the Balancing Shampoo. When all of the mask is rinsed out, you can continue to wash your hair with this shampoo. It’s interesting to think of the shampoo as what is conditioning your hair, but this cleanser does add back in some of that moisture. It is especially nice one the ends of your hair.
It was really hard to not condition my hair after using both of these products. Everything I know about my hair leads me to want to condition, so I resisted the urge.
My hair still felt nice and soft once it had dried like normal. I feel like the routine a woman has before a shower is a sacred thing. Everyone has little things that they do to get ready and this Dessange hair mask interrupts that. It’s fun to do it once, but I don’t know if I am willing to mix up my whole routine for this.
My hair is big, thick and sometimes seriously unmanageable. I have spent years dreaming of thin, straight hair. As I grow older I have learned to embrace all of my hair. That means finding products that work with my hair instead of fighting against it. Here are a few products that have been helping through this season.
Pantene Airspray – Because I don’t wear hairspray very often, I am quite picky about what I use. I have been using the same hairspray for years. Since getting the new Pantene Airspray, I have been finding myself reaching for hairspray more often than ever before. I used to only use hairspray when I straightened by hair. This hairspray is light enough to use even on my curls. Pantene’s spray doesn’t weight down my waves. It also leaves my hair feeling just as bouncy as it should! I guess I have been just using the wrong hairspray all along.
Sebastian Resintek Liquefied Sap – Flyaway hairs be gone with help of this innovative new product from Sebastian hair care. This gooey gel is a wax that you can apply to dry hair to help mold it and shape it into place. I used the sap to help stick down my annoying short hairs that just won’t stay put. The best part about this product is that everyone is going to use it in a different way. It’s flexible and can be used to define and hold your hair as you need. Do yourself a favour and just try it out!
Nexxus Oil Infinite Collection – No one ever has an excuse to have dry hair again now that this Nexxus hair collection exists. With babassu oil, which is a type of vegetable oil from the babassu plant, this shampoo and conditioner packs so much moisture into every wash. After using this line, it was impossible to deny that my hair was shinier than ever. If you still need extra nourishment, there is an oil to help tame frizz and smooth flyaways. My hair isn’t overly dry even at its worst, so this collection was slightly overkill for me. That doesn’t mean I’m not taking advantage of all of this shine while I have it!
ColorProof Crazy Smooth Anti-Frizz Treatment Masque – I swapped out my regular conditioner for a few weeks to try this masque. With my wavy, thick hair that could have been dangerous. This masque is supposed to defrizz, moisturize and repair. I applied this lemony cream to my hair after shampooing and left it for a few minutes. It left my hair feeling great. I don’t think it made my hair feel any better than my normal conditioner though. Since we are currently in the sweet spot between winter dry frizz and summer humidity frizz, I don’t think I gave it the right chance to really perform. I will be saving this cream for a bit later.
Winter is hard on our hair but luckily with the holidays coming up, there are a ton of great hair care sets to get us looking great. These are our picks.

I’ve been dying to try Kérastase for years but didn’t get around to it. Luckily, their most recent line, Discipline, is perfect for my dry, frizzy hair. The Discipline line promises to eliminate frizz for up to three days. I’m usually lucky if I can get mine to go away for three hours. Challenge accepted.
I started off using the Bain Fluidealiste (shampoo) and Fondant Fluidealiste (conditioner) and while they both smelled great and did a decent job, I didn’t really notice a huge difference. Enter the Maskeratine (hair mask) and Fluidissime (no rinse lotion/styling product). The combination of these two completely changed my hair.
The Maskeratine is exactly what you’d except from Kérastase’s cult followed hair masks. It’s super thick and leaves your hair feeling amazing. My hair felt stronger before I was even out of the shower. Usually I use several styling products to get rid of frizz, try to infuse some volume and generally just try to get my hair to look good. Fluidissime did all that in one easy spray step. It completely got rid of every single piece of frizz, defined my waves and gave my hair bounce. Did I mention my hair wasn’t crunchy or sticky, even when I used it on dry hair to refresh? It’s also supposed to cut down on blow drying time but I don’t blow dry my hair so I can’t say if it actually does.
Kérastase is definitely not a cheap line and you can only find it in salons but I will definitely be buying another Fluidissime when I run out. I only wish the bottles were bigger so they lasted a little longer.
We also recently got some great hair tips from Kérastase’s Artistic Director Stacey Staley, you can read that here.
The first time I visited O&M’s website, I was hooked. O&M stands for Original Mineral. This Australian hair care brand believes that your hair is better being free from stress. They started with clean hair colour, but their product range is so much more than that now.
Since I couldn’t choose just one or even two products, O&M’s brilliant publicist sent me their Mini Minerals collection that has five travel size products from the range. The set includes the Original Detox Shampoo, Hydrate & Conquer Shampoo, Hydrate & Conquer Conditioner, The Power Base Protein Masque and Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque.
I started with the Detox shampoo to refresh my hair. The shampoo is minty and refreshing in the shower. It smells strong and made my scalp tingly. My hair felt clean, but not dry and stripped.
The Hydrate & Conquer line is more of your everyday shampoo & conditioner. It has a mellow scent and is packed full of vitamins. My hair loved the conditioner. I was surprised by how runny the O&M products were. They were almost watery in their consistency.
The masques were my final test. I loved these and so did my hair. They were thick and sweet smelling. They absorbed right into my hair when I applied them. I could almost feel my hair sucking in all of the nutrients. My hair felt silky smooth once it was all rinsed. I will be seriously disappointed when I run out of these minis.
