My skin takes a serious beating in the winter. All the forced heat indoors and extreme dryness outside, I get extremely dry, cracked skin. Even the combination skin on my face dries out completely during winter. These products have saved my skin this year and given me some major relief from dryness.
Dr. Roebuck’s Ultimate Hydrating Serum
This serum has an almost gel-like texture and a few drops goes a long way. It absorbs into your skin instantly and doesn’t leave you with that greasy feel that you can get from some serums. I definitely feel a moisture boost when I use this one and when you add your moisturizer on top of it, it’s amazing. This is the only Dr. Roebuck’s product I’ve tried but I like it enough that I want to try more.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm
When this first showed up, I was convinced it would be too strong for my combination skin. I mean, the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial was almost too strong for me and this sounded much richer. But I had a week where my skin was so dry, nothing I had was helping, so I tried this out and it worked. The texture is a little like butter, fairly thick and spreadable. But it absorbs much quicker than I expected. Plus the moisture lasted hours and hours. I don’t need to use anything else for a full 24 hours when I use this. I also didn’t have any issues with my sensitive skin and it didn’t make me break out, but if you’re concerned, get a sample first.
Aveeno Gentle Scent Skin Relief Body Wash and Lotion in Chamomile
The skin on my body gets much more dry than the skin on my face and I’ve used numerous things over the years that didn’t really help. Aveeno’s Gentle Scents line comes in Chamomile and Coconut options and the Chamomile smells amazing. It’s not a strong scent but it’s really fresh. The body wash doesn’t make my skin feel stripped of moisture and is soap and dye free and allergy tested, so it doesn’t irritate my skin. The addition of Colloidal Oatmeal gives you a boost of moisture. The matching lotion has the same scent and absorbs quickly and isn’t greasy. The combination leaves my skin feeling hydrated and way less itchy.
L’Occitane Intensive Hand Balm
I honestly don’t know how many L’Occitane hand creams I’ve gone through over the years and I was convinced that nothing would work better on my dry, cracked hands than their classic Shea Hand Cream. Well when this hand balm arrived, it was clear I was wrong. This is quite a bit stronger than the hand cream but not much thicker. It takes a little longer to absorb but in under a minute, I can go back to whatever I was doing. I find if I use this before I go to bed, I don’t have to use hand cream until the next afternoon and it’s healed the cracked skin in my hands and cuticles. It might be a couple dollars more than the regular hand cream but if winter is killing the skin on your hands, it’s worth the money. I would actually go so far as to say, if you only buy one thing for winter skin, L’Occitane’s Intensive Hand Balm is what you need.
One of the things I’ve really started to look at when I’m buying products is how environmentally conscious the company is and how much they give back. Kiehl’s consistantly gives back with their products more than most. We covered their limited edition holiday products and now it’s their eye cream that pulling double duty.
The Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado has a limited edition version this month and 100% of the net profits will go to adopt 300 puffins as part of the Canadian Wildlife Federation Adopt A Species program.
I happened to need a new eye cream and I’m always a fan of buying charity products instead of asking for them to review, so I headed to my local Kiehl’s and picked one up. I’ve been told numerous times that Kiehl’s makes great eye cream and now I can happily confirm it. This cream is super hydrating and really refreshing on my skin and you really need a tiny amount. I can still feel it hours after applying, but in a good way.
I would’ve eventually tried this eye cream but I’m happy I got the chance to support some puffins while I’m taking care of my skin. I can’t wait to see who Kiehl’s teams up with next. This eye cream is only available while supplies last, so get one while you can.
Most of our skin changes with the seasons and in the summer everything’s a little sweatier, oilier and melty. These are our Most Wanted skincare products to help fix summer skin.
Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash
As far as I’m concerned Kiehl’s released this at the perfect time, right at the beginning of summer. If you have oily or combination skin, this cleanser is perfect for getting a super deep clean without drying you out. If foams up really thickly, so you really don’t need a lot.
Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser
If you’re on the more sensitive or drier side, Tata Harper’s Refreshing Cleanser is more of a cream cleanser. It also doesn’t dry out your skin and leaves it feeling super silky. And it smells like oranges.
Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist
This amazing mist from Jurlique can be used as a toner, a cool off spray, a spray for your sheets or all of the above. As a toner it really balances your skin and preps it for whatever you put on after. On days when you feel like you’re about to melt, a quick spray cools you off. The rose smell is so delicious you’re going to want to use it constantly.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Cell Renewal Night Cream
Some might find this Caudalie cream a little thick for summer but with all the sweating and damage our skin gets in the summer, this is a great cream to fix it all while we’re sleeping. It absorbs really easily and isn’t greasy.
fresh. Rose Hydrating Gel Cream
If you need a lighter moisturizer for summer, this gel cream from fresh. is perfect. It’s really light but keeps your skin really hydrated. It also goes really well with the Jurlique mist.
I’m sure there are a ton more products that people love for summer but these are our Most Wanted.
Like every diligent lady, I’m always on the lookout for the next best moisturizer. Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer is a new take on hydration. The first thing that I noticed was that it doesn’t say moisturizer anywhere, it says hydrator. With this dry winter skin, I could definitely go for some hydration.
Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer is supposed to be a daily hydrator that reduces signs of stress like fatigue and redness and protects against future stress. They say it will strengthen my skin, soothe, and hydrate leaving me with a fresh face. With all of these perks and the intrigue of a non-moisturizer I gave it a shot.
The first thing I noticed is that Kiehl’s hydrating cream doesn’t have the same pretty smelling and creamy texture as other moisturizers on my shelf. It has more of a chemical scent maybe from the botanical extract and mannose ingredients. Either way, this isn’t a girly moisturizer, but I often take that as a sign that it’s going to be serious!
It may not look like much, but a little goes a long way with this cream. Two or three small pumps are all you need to cover your clean face. It gets absorbed into the skin very quickly. Unlike other moisturizers it doesn’t leave my face feeling dewy or soft. It feels clean and hydrated.
After a few weeks, I’m not sure if my skin is looking less stressed than before. It does feel very nicely hydrated all day long and it doesn’t feel like this Kiehl’s cream is clogging my pores like some other creams. If your regular moisturizer is feeling tired, maybe you need a skin rescue too.
