FLOWER Hydrasilk Ultimate Lip Butter

FLOWER Ultimate Lip Butter
As much as I love a matte lip, my lips are starting to pay the price and get really dried out. FLOWER’s Hydrasilk Ultimate Lip Butter, while not matte, is a great solution for someone who wants hydrated lips while still wearing great colour. Drew Barrymore’s FLOWER line is only available at Walmart, which means these lip butters are super affordable at around $8 each.

They come in six shades (we’re missing UL1 – Naked Petal) and some are definitely more pigmented than others. Because they’re so creamy though, it’s easy to build up to the look you want. These lip butters are so comfortable that it feels like you’re not wearing anything but lip balm and even after the colour wears off, your lips still feel moisturized.

UL2 – Rose Petal is my favourite daytime shade and when I want more colour I go for UL5 – Ruby Petal, which also seems to be the most pigmented. The shades are all really flattering and easy to wear and the pen makes it really easy to apply. But the best part is how these feel on your lips and I really love how you get the feel of a balm with the colour of a lipstick.

Essence Liquid Lipstick

essence liquid Lipstick
I’ve been trying to wear a lot more lipstick lately and I’ve been firmly on the matte lipstick train but some days my lips need a break from how drying they can be. Essence’s Liquid Lipsticks are kind of the complete opposite of a matte liquid lipstick. They’re pigmented like a lipstick but go on like a gloss.
essence liquid liptick applicator
These super affordable lipsticks have a doe foot applicator that make application pretty easy and come in six shades. While they are definitely more like a gloss than a lipstick, there isn’t any stickiness until they start to wear off, and then they get pretty sticky. But unlike a gloss, they keep their colour really well. Wear time is only about an hour or so on me. My biggest issue with these lipsticks is that they move. I’m constantly checking my lips to see where the colour ended up and that ends up with me wiping product off the skin around my lips. Considering these have a bit of a stain to them, that’s an issue for me.

That said, if you’re looking for an affordable alternative to a matte liquid lipstick, you should really give these a try. Make A Statement (06) is my favourite shade.

SST Power Stay Makeup Sticks

SST Powerplay Powerstay Collection

If you need a little on the go touch up, try Canadian made SST Power Stay makeup sticks. SST has a stick that you can throw in your purse for anything you might need. They have the perfect combination of qualities being long lasting, waterproof, and highly pigmented.

The Power Stay line includes two lipsticks, one eye shadow, one highlighting stick, and a brow pencil. All of these makeup sticks have some serious colour and staying power, so apply with a light hand because they aren’t as easy to smudge as you might think. The shadow is especially tricky because the long lasting formula doesn’t have much give.

These SST sticks are perfect for travel. I love how they give big power in a small package. I can bring along everything I need to go from day to night in the bottom of my purse. Forget carrying around big heavy makeup bags. That is a thing of the past!

Of all of them, my favourite is the Highlighting Stick. It’s great to apply under your brows or on your cheekbones for a bit of shine.

I can’t wait until they have more colours of shadow and lipstick to give more diversity too.

Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour

Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Box
We’re still loving the matte lip but it’s hard to find one that’s not sucking the life out of our lips. Laura Mercier’s Velour Lovers Lip Colour has a satin matte finish but it’s infused with mango butter to keep our lips hydrated.
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Open
We received three shades to try; An Affair (deep plum), Temptation (brick red) and Infatuation (creamsicle pink). The first shade I tried was Tempation and I wanted to see how well it performed without any touch-ups. So I applied it before I left the house and left the tube at home. One swipe of the extremely creamy Velour Lovers gives you a ton of pigmentation and I didn’t have to go over my lips again to get the depth I wanted.
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Swatches
It lasted about four hours before I ate something and the lipstick went with it, but those four hours were extremely comfortable. I actually forgot I was wearing lipstick until I walked by a mirror and until I ate the colour stayed put. Velour Lovers isn’t transfer-proof but there was very little lipstick coming off on my coffee cup.

Unlike most matte lipsticks, Velour Lovers didn’t leave my lips super dry once it was gone. Do I wish it lasted longer? Yes. But I’ll take comfort over longevity any day when it comes to lipstick. It doesn’t hurt that there’s over a dozen gorgeous shades to choose from.

Lise Watier Majestique Holiday 2015 Collection

Lise Watier Majestique Holiday 2015
We know it’s a little late to be posting a holiday collection but to be fair we didn’t receive the Lise Watier Majestique collection until a couple days before Christmas. Luckily, all of these products are still available on the Lise Watier website and you can probably find some in Shoppers Drug Mart as well. This collection is pretty big, with lots of colour choices and we got to try a good chunk of it.
Lise Watier Palette Majestique Luxury Lady
There are two palettes in this collection and we got to try Luxury Lady. I’m completely obsessed with this palette. It’s a great neutral palette with both lighter and darker shades. But it’s the texture of the eyeshadows that blows me away.
Lise Watier Luxury Lady Swatches
They’re all extremely pigmented and so creamy that it just takes one swipe of a brush to get full coverage. They blend beautifully as well. I’ve been using this palette almost exclusively for a couple weeks and I haven’t even made a dent in it.
Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme in Love Spell
Ombre Soufflé Suprême in Love Spell is so light and airy that you’re going to want to use your fingers. I don’t recommend it though, if you want to get any kind of colour on your lids you need a brush. It’s a gorgeous shade though, and makes a great base colour.
Lise Watier Majestique Lips
I love the amount of options there are for lips. There’s Haute Couleur Full Coverage Lip Lacquer in Royal Couture, which is not only long lasting and not sticky but it has a light in the cap which makes application in darker areas a breeze. Next up in Rouge Gourmand in Fortune Cookie. This is my favourite of the bunch. It’s so creamy and easy to wear and it’s a great neutral shade. Last is Rouge Gourmand Velours in Fatal Potion. If you love a dark, matte lip, this is a great option since it’s extremely comfortable to wear.

I’ve never tried a Lise Watier nail polish before and Red Heart was a great place to start. A classic red, it had great opacity and was pretty good with tip wear.
Lise Watier Red Heart Swatch
I just wish the bottle was a little bigger because it was a little hard to work with.

This is one of my favourite holiday collection from last year. I always forget how much I love Lise Watier products until I start using new ones. But since Luxury Lady is in heavy rotation in my eyeshadow drawer, I think I’ll be remembering more often.

Most Wanted Red Lips For Fall 2015

Most Wanted Red Lips For Fall 2015
There’s really nothing more quintessentially fall than a red lip and there are a ton of them to choose from. These are our Most Wanted reds for fall.
GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick in Matte Classic Red
GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick Matte Classic Red
This red is definitely what I think of when I picture a classic red and I love the matte formula. It’s not drying but does a good job of staying put. It’s a gorgeous shade for a timeless look.
Cover Girl LipPerfection Lipcolour in Hot
Cover Girl LipPerfection Lipcolour Hot
Another classic red, Hot is a little on the creamier side and is really flattering on even my very fair skin tone. You might want to use a lipstick primer with this one, it doesn’t have the greatest staying power but I expect that from a lipstick this soft.
L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Pure Reds in Julianne’s Red
L'oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Pure Reds Julianne's Red
Of all the shades in the Pure Reds collection, I was instantly drawn to this coral-red and it makes sense considering I have relatively similar colouring to Julianne Moore. If you’re on the fair side and a classic red is too much for you, this is a great alternative.
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Canadian Flare
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick Canadian Flare
A collaboration between Smashbox, Flare Magazine and artist Donald Robertson; this coral red was inspired by the Canadian flag. It’s a little on the sheer side, so you can layer to get the effect you want. Canadian Flare is really moisturizing and comfortable to wear.
byTERRY Terrybly Velvet Rouge Liquid Velvet Lipstick in My Red
byTERRY Terrybly Velvet Rouge My Red
For the liquid lipstick fans, My Red is a classic matte red that smells like roses. The unique ergonomic applicator takes a little getting used to but the payoff is huge. It lasts for hours and while it’s not transfer proof, you don’t have to reapply constantly. It’s also a lot less drying than I expected from a matte, liquid lipstick.

Cover Girl Outlast Longwear + Moisture Lipstick

Cover Girl Outlast Moisture Lipstick Open
Cover Girl has quite a few new products out for fall and we’ve already reviewed the Jumbo Gloss Balms and we have a couple more posts coming but right now we’re focusing on one of our favourite new Outlast products, the Outlast Longwear + Moisture Lipstick. At one point or another, most of us have used Cover Girl’s original Outlast lipstick with the colour on one end and the gloss on the other. And most of us hated how dry and cakey it gets. Cover Girl got the message and went back to the drawing board and gave us this one step longwearing lipstick that also gives us moisture.
Cover Girl Outlast Moisture Lipstick Swatches
These lipsticks are so creamy that you really have to be careful when you apply because it might end up all over your face. But that’s a good sign of moisture right? The two shades we tried, Vixen Violet and Pink Shock did a pretty good job lasting through meals, though touch-ups were necessary. I love how pigmented these are but the shades aren’t as in your face as they look in the container. The moisture level wasn’t quite lip balm material but it was close. Just don’t expect the staying power of a traditional, lip drying longwear lipstick. These do a good job but we can’t expect miracles.

Vapour Organic Beauty

Vapour Organic Beauty is the child of Krysia Boinis and Kristine Keheley who worked on other brands creating products and wanted to develop their own line of organic products. They worked to create healthy products that also had great performance and were sustainable. That is a lot to ask if you also want the products to work great.

Vapour Beauty created products that are all a minimum of 70% organic without the use of harmful chemicals. I was really impressed when I received Vapour’s makeup because they aren’t just organic, but they are also innovative. They are doing more than just making organic makeup. They are developing new products.

vapour-stratus-skin-perfector

My favourite product in the line was the Stratus Instant Skin Perfector. I’ve never used something like this. The closest I could compare it to is a primer. It works great as a primer under your foundation, but you don’t need to. The Skin Perfector hide pores, helps with any discolouration and mattifies your skin, while keeping it radiant. All while being good for your skin. Talk about multi-purpose! I found on my skin it even gave me a nice shimmer in the light. It’s great for people who don’t want to wear a lot of makeup.

vapour-Siren-lipstick

My other favourite product is the Siren Lipstick. I have a love/hate relationship with organic lipstick. I find they are either great or horrible. This one is on the great side. I’m not much of a dark lipstick girl, but I was totally addicted to the dark plum Torrid shade. It was rich, creamy, sexy and stayed on for a long time.

If you are looking for something natural and organic that actually works, check out Vapour Beauty!

Too Faced Melted Metal Lipstick

Too Faced Melted Metal Box
I recently became pretty obsessed with Too Faced’s original Melted Lipstick and I’ve been wearing Candy (a shade no one would ever guess I’d pick) pretty much non stop. So I was really happy when we got a chance to try four shades of the newest version, Melted Metal.
Too Faced Melted Metal Lipstick
Melted Metal Liquified Metallic Lipstick is the same idea as the regular Melted Lipstick. They come in a tube with a precision tip so you don’t need a brush, though you can definitely use one. They’re extremely creamy and easy to apply and they last for hours. Even the delicious candy scent is the same. The only difference I’ve noticed is they don’t dry to a creamy matte. Instead you get a metallic shine that doesn’t fade in five minutes.

Too Faced Melted Metal Swatches
Bunny, Dream House, Tu-Tu, Violet

We got to try Melted Metallic Bunny (metallic bubblegum pink), Melted Metallic Dream House (metallic electric fuchsia), Melted Metallic Tu-Tu (metallic warm flamingo) and Melted Metallic Violet (metallic violet orchid). It’s so hard for me to decide what my favourite shade is. Dream House is closest to Candy but there’s an occasion for every shade. I did noticed that Violet was a little more watery than the others and takes a little longer to dry but you still get the same effect and wear time.

I’m so in love with these Melted Metals that I’ve decided to not pick a favourite and just use all of them and maybe combine a couple and see what new shades I can come up with.

If you want to find your perfect shade, check out Too Faced’s website.

SST Quintessential Collection Review

SST Quintessential Collection Box
We’re always looking for new Canadian makeup companies and if the makeup happens to be free of harsh chemicals like SST’s, it’s a bonus. The Quintessential collection consists of two eyeshadow duos, an eyeshadow single, a lipstick and a lip polish (lip gloss). Even though this is SST’s spring line, the shades are also perfect for summer.
SST Quintessential Collection
We tried half of the collection starting with the Mild Eyeshadow Combo. At first glance the neutral beige and gold shimmer shades weren’t all that exciting to me but the shadows are so great to work with and easy to blend that I started using them quite a bit during the day. These shadows last a really long time.

Vital, Stripped, Mild Combo

Next up was the Stripped Hydrating Lipstick. I love this shade and it has so many great things in it like grape seed oil and cocoa butter that I was really expecting a super creamy lipstick. What I got was a grainy lipstick too uncomfortable to wear for longer than an hour which is too bad because this pink-nude is probably a great shade for a ton of skin tones. It’s a little better if you add the lip polish over it so I’ve been doing that.

High Shine Lip Polish in Vital is pretty aptly named because it’s definitely the most need product in the Quintessential collection. This soft plum lip gloss is really creamy and doesn’t get sticky, it even passed the hair in wind test. It lasts for a pretty decent amount of time but since it’s not sticky or gloopy I don’t mind reapplying.

I was really impressed with SST cosmetics for the most part and I can’t wait to try more products from them.
