Most Wanted of 2017

Happy 2018 everyone! It feels like 2017 went by in a minute but we still found time to try a ton of products, some new, some new to us. These are our Most Wanted of 2017

Lush Scrubee

The first time I tried this scrub/body butter combination, Stephanie brought one back from London for me before they were available in Canada. I’ve been using it ever since and it’s hands down my most replaced product of the year. The combination of cocoa and shea butters and ground almonds and coconut shells leave you with incredibly smooth and moisturized skin. The little bee shape is adorable and the honey scent is delicious. It’s such a fan favourite that this originally limited edition product became part of the permanent Lush collection.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

Glossier coming to Canada was a huge deal this year and we’ve had a chance to try a number of products but this cleanser has quickly become my go to face wash. The super light texture doesn’t dry out my skin and leaves it soft and calm. I usually use this after I’ve taken my makeup off but it does a decent job of getting off makeup in a pinch. I love that the scent is just as gentle as the texture and that it works amazingly well with my Clarisonic.

Invisibobble Meow & Ciao

I’ve been obsessed with Invisibobble since the first one I tried. I wear my hair up nearly all the time and this hair band doesn’t give me headaches but holds my hair in ponytails or buns without my fine hair coming out of them. Meow & Ciao is from the holiday I Live In Wonderland collection and the pretty purple shade is a nice change from the boring neutrals I’ve been using.

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

This mascara has been a cult fave for years and I honestly don’t know how I hadn’t used it before. We received one in a Benefit holiday gift and I’ve been using it almost exclusively ever since. I don’t know where this mascara has been all my life but it’s consistently given me the best lashes I’ve ever had. I get a ton of length and volume and don’t have to use my eyelash curler if I don’t want to. This is going to be in my makeup bag forever.

Garnier Whole Blends Illuminating Moroccan Argan and Camellia Oils

I know both Argan and Camellia oils are used a ton in hair products and I’ve tried quite a few of them but something about this combination is just a winner. The shampoo has a unique texture (you can feel the oil) but it lathers really nicely and if a shampoo can be called comforting, this is it. The conditioner doesn’t feel really thick until it hits your hair, which means you don’t need a lot at all and you should use less than you normally would (trust me). The Illuminating Oil gets rid of most of my frizz and leaves my hair soft, manageable and shiny. This is probably the best drugstore shampoo line I’ve ever tried and I’ll definitely pick up more when I run out.

Holiday Most Wanted: Gifts For Guys

Buying for guys can be pretty difficult but now that a lot of them are really into grooming, we can help you out with a couple ideas.

Les Industries GROOM Shaving Care Trial Kit
groom-shaving-care-trial-kit
For the guys who love to try out new shaving products, Montreal’s Les Industries GROOM have a new shaving cream and it comes in their Shaving Care Trial Kit along with Aftershave Balm, Aftershave Splash and Shaving Oil. It’s the easiest way to get a guy’s beard looking great, while they get to try new things.
Beardhood Graille N°3 Beard Oil Gift Pack
beardhood-graille-no3-beard-oil-gift-set
If you’re shopping for a guy who likes as few things crowding his bathroom as possible, Beardhood’s Beard Oil Gift Pack might be the way to go. It includes four of their beard oil packs which can be used for multiple things ie: beard oil, cologne, hair conditioner, skin moisturizer, aftershave and probably a few more things. Best of all, it’s a Toronto company.
Jack Black Beard Grooming Kit
jackblack_beard_grooming_kit_
If you’re buying for someone who’s a little insane about their beard (my brother), this is a great travel kit for them to keep things looking good on the road. In the travel bag comes an All-Over Wash that they can use on hair, face and body, Beard Oil, Beard Lube and a Beard Comb. It might be the only way to get them to stop talking about how rough their beard is looking during the holidays.
Lush Ice Cube Gift
lush-ice-cube-gift
If you’re not buying for a beard loving guy, this minty, guy friendly gift from Lush might be the perfect thing (and you might want to steal it for yourself). It includes Christingle Body Conditioner, Whoosh Shower Jelly, Salt and Peppermint Bark body scrub, Candy Cane Shower Smoothie and Outback Mate soap. Plus it’s already wrapped, which is less work for you.

Makeup Most Wanted – June 2016

June has been a hot one, but these products have been keeping me looking cool!

Lush Yuzu And Cocoa Shower Cream

Lush Yuzu And Cocoa Shower Cream – I wanted this from the second I smelled it! The orange scent drew me in and made me need it in my shower. It has the feel of a chocolate orange to me. There is even a little spiciness underneath it all to bring the whole scent together. In case you didn’t get it yet, I think It smells amazing! I don’t know if it’s just my bottle, but this shower cream is really thin. It still lathers up properly, but it just comes out of the bottle like it has been watered down. Like I said, it could just be my bottle. Either way, it doesn’t matter, I am in love!

Katy Kat Matte Lipstick By Covergirl

Katy Kat Matte Lipstick By Covergirl – Somehow I’m not surprised that I love  Katy Perry’s Covergirl collection lipstick. What makeup loving girl doesn’t look at pictures of Katy Perry with those cherry lips and get a bit jealous. If you’ve ever used Covergirl lipstick before, you know the wear and quality of the product. There is no surprise there. It was the colours that have me jumping through hoops.

katy perry lipstick

The purple ‘Cosmo Kitty’ is one of the coolest lipsticks I have ever worn. Yes, it’s purple, but it’s also so wearable in your everyday life any time of day. The ‘Cat Call’ pink is also hot, hot, hot! You have to head to the store to try out these shades. They are just what your summer is missing!

s1433747-main-Lhero

Sephora 8 Hour Mattifying Moisturizer Sunscreen – I realized that I didn’t have a face moisturizer that I loved and then a few days later this little baby appears at my side. Thank you makeup gods! Not only does this ‘perfect for summer’ moisturizer have SPF 20, but it’s mattifying! Nothing is worse than putting on makeup and still have a shiny nose or forehead. Now I am starting from step one with a face that I can be happy with. It makes all of the makeup I apply feel that much better and last just a little longer.

faceshop-foundation

The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion – While we are talking about stopping oil, reducing shine and getting great matte skin, I have to mention this foundation. I tried the CC Intense Cushion first, but I didn’t like it. It was only when I switched to the Oil Control version that I liked this makeup. This cushion foundation makeup is so light. You will barely even feel it at all on your skin. It almost absorbs right away. The colour goes on a bit lighter than it looks, so try on each shade carefully before you buy. I was still happy with my light shade. The makeup goes on very lightly in a way that is perfect for hot summer days. I never want to wear heavy makeup in the summer and this is exactly the consistency that I need. I did find that for full coverage I needed to wear this along with my favourite concealer, but I would have done that with my other foundations too.

MadeInShade_Box

Dermaflage Made In The Shade Powder Foundation – Despite all of my many makeup escapades, I have never used a loose powder foundation. I just didn’t think that it would work properly. I had no faith that it could give me coverage that I trusted all day. This one by a collaboration of Hollywood SFX makeup artists and Dermatologists. I was shocked when I applied it. This powder covers pretty much everything on your face. It recommends applying concealer afterwards if needed, and I never needed it! I wear concealer every day, so for me to go without is a huge deal! Even though it gives great coverage, this powder still isn’t heavy or cakey. It wears very naturally. I might recommend  spraying a finishing spray over top to give it more lasting powder, but you can toss the rest of the makeup you aren’t happy with.

Father’s Day Skin Care Most Wanted

Father’s Day is this weekend and other than posting about the usual gifts, thought we’d make some skin care suggestions for the men in your life.
No7 Energizing Face Wash, Protect & Perfect Intense Serum and Moisturizer SPF 15
No7 Men's line
While men are getting better at taking care of their skin, a lot of times we have to buy the products for them. No7 (available in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart) have a great men’s selection and this grouping gives them everything they’ll need for great skin. These are all suitable for sensitive skin and the moisturizer has SPF in it. The serum and moisturizer have anti-aging properties while the face wash will give them a little boost in the morning.
Lush Smuggler’s Soul Shampoo Bar and Multi-Purpose Cream
Lush Smuggler's Soul line
While it’s nice for men to have their own products, it’s even nicer when they have stuff we can share. Lush’s Smuggler’s Soul line smells so good you’ll want it for yourself. With sandalwood, lemon balm and jojoba, the Multi-Purpose Cream can be used for face, body, hair, shaving and pretty much anything else. It also absorbs really quickly so nothing will get greasy. Pair this one with the matching scrub and anyone who uses it will have super smooth skin. The shampoo bar has a similar scent and gently cleanses hair while cocoa butter moisturizes. I would love for this line to stick around because I know a lot of guys (and girls) who are going to love it.

New Soaps From Lush

Lush Soap Bars
Stephanie and I both have a huge love for soap, especially Lush soap. So when I found out they were introducing five new ones, I was pretty excited. They recently discontinued a couple of my favourites (I’m not over it yet), so I was hoping to find a new favourite. I got the inside scoop when I recently had a chance to go on a tour of the Lush factory a month ago but now that they’re available online, I get to talk all about them.
Layer Cake
Lush Layer Cake Soap
Every colour in this soap is made from a different juice (grape, orange, blueberry, pineapple and raspberry), hence the layer part of the name. Obviously this is a really fruity soap that’s colourful and fun for everyone.
Respect Your Elders
Lush Respect Your Elders Soap
Respect Your Elders has a really gorgeous elderflower and elderberry scent that’s light and fruity. It smells close enough to my discontinued Godmother soap, that this might make my new  favourite list.
Maypole
Lush Maypole Soap
I honestly would’ve never thought to combine peppermint oil and maple syrup in anything but the combination is surprisingly delicious. The mint balances out the maple sweetness, while the maple stops the peppermint from being too strong.
Serendipity
Lush Serendipity Soap
I overloaded on lavender scented everything a few years ago and can’t really tolerate the smell of it most of the time. For some reason though, I love Serendipity. Maybe it’s because they use real lavender or maybe because it’s mixed in with chamomile, either way, this is the most calming soap I’ve tried in a long time.
Outback Mate
Lush Outback Mate Soap
If you’re missing Demon In The Dark (who isn’t?), Outback Mate might fill at least part of the void. Made with eucalyptus, lemongrass and peppermint, this will leave you both refreshed and smell amazing. I had a chance to help make one of these and I took some pictures so you can see all the hard work that goes into it.
IMG_1123IMG_1124IMG_1126
If you don’t have a favourite Lush soap yet or are looking for a new one, you now have five more options to try.

Mother’s Day Most Wanted

I swear it feels like Mother’s Day comes earlier every year, even though it doesn’t. If it snuck up on you this year (Mother’s Day is on Sunday in case you forgot), we have a couple of really easy gifts that you can grab for your mother, that will last longer than flowers will.
Demeter Orchid Collection Set
Demeter Orchid Collection Set
These orchids are way easier to keep up than the live ones are and in this limited edition set you get three gorgeous orchid fragrances that you can wear individually or mix and match. This set includes the Twilight, To Yo Ran and Aphrodite’s Slipper orchid scents but Demeter actually has two more orchid fragrances and if you want all five they have a smaller Orchid Collection Sampler Set. I love that Demeter’s florals smell like the real thing and not fake versions or flowers, so they’re not overpowering and perfect for perfume loving mothers.
Lush Flower Power Gift
Lush Flower Power Gift
Lush always has fabulous limited edition products for Mother’s Day and this year two of them are in the Flower Power gift (Yummy Mummy shower gel and Rose Bombshell bath bomb) along with six other Lush faves (Magical Moringa moisturizer, Butterball bath bomb, Sakura bath bomb, Dream Cream hand and body lotion, Rub Rub Rub scrub and Ro’s Argan skin conditioner). If those products weren’t amazing enough you can use the container and seeded paper as a planter box. You can buy one for your mom, but you’re going to want to get another for yourself as well.
The Body Shop British Rose Deluxe Collection
The Body Shop british-rose-deluxe-collection_l
This pretty hatbox contains the perfect collection of rose products any mom will love. You get the new British Rose shower gel, body butter, body essence and eau de toilette so you can get that amazing layered rose scented effect along with a Vitamin E Moisture Cream. The perfect way to pamper any mother.

We want to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day and hopefully you get one or all of these as gifts!

Lush 93,000 Miles Shower Jelly

Lush 93000 Miles Shower Jelly

It took all of 3-seconds for me to know that I NEEDED to try this soap. Open the container and you will be hooked! This jelly smells like a super shot of spicy cinnamon. Anyone who has smelled those weird creams for sore muscles will be familiar with strong smelling gels for your skin and this is no different. This Lush Shower Jelly is made to soothe those tire limbs in the shower.

Despite my love of Lush, I didn’t really think a shower gel would be able to do much for my muscles. The first time I used it, I didn’t really notice anything either.

Then I got sick! I’m not sure what type of horrible cold or flu this was, but my entire body was sore. My back was aching, my shoulders were tight, and my legs were tired. I hopped in a hot bath to try to relax those muscles. When it came time to clean, I pulled out this soap.

I slowly massaged it into my skin and could feel the Eucalyptus, Mint and Cinnamon work into my skin to help ease at least a little of that tension. Be careful if you have sensitive skin. I noticed that on some places where my skin was more delicate, this soap was too strong and tingly. It’s only meant for those tough places on your skin.

Anyone who is on their feet all day or gets sore tired muscles regularly should consider this soap an investment.

Products For A Cause With Lush And L’Occitane

Lush and L’Occitane are two companies that are known for giving back. Lush’s Charity Pot is a permanent product where the proceeds to go to different charities and L’Occitane has different causes they donate to each year. Right now, they each have a product out where the proceeds go to good causes. You’ll want to grab both of these before they run out!

Lush Hand Of Friendship Soap
Lush Hand Of Friendship Soap
Canada just accepted 25,000 Syrian refugees and 100% of the proceeds from Hand Of Friendship (minus taxes) will go to Lush’s Friendship Fund that supplies the relief to their most pressing needs. Hand Of Friendship is a sweet smelling (cherry blossom), highly moisturizing soap that lathers really well. I had to cut mine up to make it easier to use and I love the hand design so much I was really sad about it.

L’Occitane Solidarity Balm
Solidarity Balm Ultra Soft Balm
L’Occitane launched their Solidarity Balm just in time for Women’s Day on March 8th. 100% of the proceeds to this balm will finance NGO programs for women’s leadership in Burkina Faso with the support of the L’Occitane Foundation and it’s program ‘Women For Burkina.’ The balm itself it pretty amazing. Rose scented and full of Shea, this balm is perfect for lips, cuticles, hair or anywhere that your skin is dried out from winter. Considering it’s only $6, I’ll be stocking up on these.

I love when companies match products we’re going to buy anyways with giving us a chance to give back and these two are pretty amazing.

Lush Valentine’s Day Collection 2016

Lush Valentine's 2016I always look forward to any kind of holiday collection from Lush and considering how much I enjoyed their Valentine’s Day products last year, I was really happy they brought most of them back and added a few, even more pink products.
Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar
Lush Unicorn Horn 2016
I was really happy they brought back Unicorn Horn, its super calming lavender and neroli scent is great and this one isn’t quite as sparkly as last year. It’s a really good size, so you’ll be able to break it up and get a few really bubbly baths out of it.
Prince Charming Shower Cream
Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel
Prince Charming is another returning product but instead of a shower gel, this year it’s a shower cream. From what I can tell, shower creams are pretty much the same as the gels, only a little more moisturizing. Either way, the delicious pomegranate-vanilla scent is the same and I’m going to be using this one pretty fast (and maybe stocking up on some more).
Roses All The Way Soap
Lush Roses All The Way
I love anything with rose in it, so I was thrilled to get this soap. I wish it was part of the permanent line up. It’s on the creamier side of the Lush soaps and the shape is so pretty, but a little difficult to work with. I actually cut it up into chunks to make it easier to use but other than the shape, this is basically my ideal Lush soap. Soft, creamy and smelling like roses.
The Kiss Lip Gloss
Lush The Kiss Lip Gloss
The Kiss was released last year in a tub and I still have a little left, even though it expires soon. This year’s version is almost exactly the same but in a tube. It has the same super sweet almond and tangerine scent and flavour with a hint of pink and shimmer. This one feels a little grainy going on but it smooths out and feels really moisturizing. I adore the fact that it’s in a tube and I hope this is a trend that Lush continues. One of the reasons I don’t buy their lip balms is because of the tubs.
The Kiss Lip Scrub
Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub
While I love Lush’s Lip Scrubs, the only flavour I’ve ever liked is Mint Juleps. But now that I have The Kiss, I have another one to love. It’s a pretty similar mandarin scent as The Kiss lip gloss but it also has edible red hearts in it. It’s scrubby, but not harsh and leaves your lips feeling really soft. The combination of The Kiss Lip Scrub, followed by the lip gloss, is basically perfection.

While I really liked Lush’s Valentine’s collection last year, I’m full on in love with it this year. I just wish some of these products were permanent.

Most Wanted Face Scrubs

Obviously it’s important to exfoliate our skin all year round but with winter’s dryness comes dead skin, flaky patches and uneven skin tone. Luckily, I love a face scrub so I put together a list of my Most Wanted.
Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream With Microbeads
Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream
This gentle exfoliating cream gets the job done and takes it easy on your skin. You get a deep clean from the microbeads but Mimosa extract stops it from drying out your skin. It’s not too harsh for sensitive skin but I would use it less often than the twice a week they suggest.
Vichy Pureté Thermale Skin Renewing Screamy Scrub
Vichy Purete Thermale Skin Renewing Creamy Scrub
This is probably what most people expect from a face scrub. A cream with new environmentally friendly Jojoba beads. It’s extremely gentle but does a great job of exfoliating. This is the one you could probably use more often without irritating your skin.
Laura Mercier Face Polish
Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish
I was really expecting this to be a little too harsh for my sensitive skin, it’s really grainy. But I didn’t have any redness or irritation. It did such a great job of clearing out my pores, I found blackheads I didn’t know were there.
Lush Ocean Salt Face And Body Scrub
Lush Ocean Salt Face And Body Scrub
This is such a classic product that I’m pretty sure anyone who loves Lush has tried it at least once. The salt, lime and vodka combination are fantastic for clearing out your skin and the avocado and coconut stops it from drying out your skin. Just a tip for anyone with sensitive skin, try a patch test first to see if you’ll react, salt can be irritating.
StriVectin Oxygen Infusion Smoothing Mask
StriVectin Oxygen Infusion Smoothing Mask
When this product was suggested to me as an exfoliator, I was hugely skeptical. I’ve heard of scrubby masks but this one isn’t scrubby at all. It’s also the coolest mask I’ve ever tried. You apply the cream to your face, watch it foam up and while it dries into a clear film you can feel it get all the crap out of your pores. This has become my most recent obsession and it does such a great job, I was glowing when I rinsed it off.

There are obviously tons of other face scrubs out there, but to get a really good exfoliation, these are my picks.
