While it’s not the newest makeup collection in the Too Faced line, but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t share my love for the Life’s A Festival Collection. With summer just around the corner, now is the time to live your best life with Too Faced makeup.
For a little eye shine, the Life’s A Festival Eye Shadow Palette has everything you want. The shadows are a mix of colour and a few colour changing hues that provide endless fun opportunities. I love looking at all of the inspiration for looks on Instagram, because these colours are seriously stunning.
Unfortunately, my Rainbow Strobe Highlighter broke in the mail, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of the beautiful rainbow shine with special Magic Rainbow Strobing Brush. Luckily there are other options for highlighting. I also had the Unicorn Horn Highlighting Stick. This creamy stick provides a sheer and glossy finish. I prefer the look of powder highlighters better, but this stick worked in the meantime. It’s nice that you can just really targeted highlighting with this stick versus a loose brush.
The Magic Crystal Lip Topper is probably the most surprising of everything I have. I didn’t expect such high shine on my lips with this glossy finish. This Holographic finish has serious metallic shine that can be added to any lipstick or worn solo. It changes everything I knew about lipstick and my favourite shades.
Last, but not least, my favourite product, Too Faced Unicorn Tears Bronzer. This shimmering bronzer is the perfect amount of colour and shine. The silver sparkle plays on your cheeks in just the right way. It’s even day time appropriate sparkle that I’ve been wearing to work. I could add on an extra layer though for evening sparkle.
So prepare for summer with more sparkle and a lot of Too Faced!
I was excited for the idea of a bronzing primer. It would allow me to skip out on multiple face products for just one that gives me a bronzed glow that also moisturizers. Unfortunately this isn’t my dream come true. The Lune + Aster primer is too thick and leaves a weird residue on my face after application that I just couldn’t ignore. The bronzing is also very dark, so be warned if you want to try it. You may not want to apply all over your face. It is better applied in small areas. My hunt for the perfect all in one product continues.
Rimmel is one of my favourite drug store brands, but this BB Cream is a miss for them. I’m surprised because they have made some great foundations lately. The biggest issue with this makeup is that it’s too watery. I don’t mind light products necessarily, but this one feels thin. It applies to my face really thin, not giving any proper coverage. I suppose it might last a long time, but I end up applying layers of concealer and powder over it to get the look I want, so I don’t know.
Quo has been releasing some really great products lately that I super impressed by. It’s even better because all of Quo’s makeup is available at Shopper’s Drug Mart for a really reasonable price. If you want to update your makeup for Spring at any budget, make sure to include some of these products:
Quo Matte Revolution Foundation – This thick full coverage foundation is impressive. I love matte foundations and this one is top notch. It feels and wears like a product that is much more expensive. It does go on quite thick, so you have to want that. It felt like wearing a moisturizer, foundation and concealer all in one. This is more of a heavy duty foundation, so it doesn’t really disappear on the skin. It’s like a second layer – One that makes your skin look perfect.
Quo Bronzer Duo – Quo released a line of bronzing powders recently, including these Bronzing Duo powders. The powder is a bronzer with a highlighter in the center. You can get the bronzing and highlighting all in one. Depending on the shade that you get, the center might be a shimmering gold or matte pink. Warning, these bronzers are pretty dark. If you are light skinned, you might want to skip them. Everyone else can enjoy.
Quo Concealer Palette – By some coincidence, I tried many new concealers this month, but Quo’s palette is by far the best. It has four different shades, meaning that you don’t have to worry about finding the right hue. It also means that you can still use it if you have a tan or some darker or lighter parts. It is quite a thick concealer, but I like that. It ensures that I get complete coverage on the first application. It makes me almost want to give up foundation altogether.
This liner has become my new best friend. I’m not crazy about how I look in black eyeliner. I think it’s too harsh on me. But this Espresso and Cashmere duo eyeliner is the perfect colour. It made me start wearing eyeliner, not only on the weekends, but to work! You don’t know just how big of a step that is. It’s huge. I’m like a new woman.
Have you ever feared that it was so hot you would lose your eyebrows? If yes, then this is the investment that you need. I am not Anastasia’s audience for this product. I might use a little touch up for my brows sometimes, but nothing serious. Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade is serious brow colour! This cream comes in a variety of colours to match your brows. It helps to really define, sculpt and create the perfect brows that aren’t going anywhere. On me, it looked crazy. But the waterproof formula can give those in need what they are looking for.
I like the idea of these contour kits that give you all the powders that you need in one place, but Gosh is joining my contour game pretty late. I have spent the past year trying contour kits from every other brand and I only just got the Gosh palette now. Trying to get me to change my favourites at this point is a challenge.
The first thing that I notice is that the colours in this palette all seem to have a bit of a golden sparkle. Luckily for me, that tone suits me, but be careful if gold isn’t your colour. Even though gold suits me, I don’t always want to sparkle. That kept me away from this makeup kit more than anything else.
I want to contour, but not to sparkle. The powders themselves are ok. The darker contouring powder was too dark for me, so I was thankful for two options.
The blush and the highlighter gave me the glow I expected. Overall this palette was ok, but as I said it’s coming last in the contour trend and I already have my makeup bag favourites set. If it isn’t offering me something new, I don’t know why I would replace it.
I was pretty excited to open up the Blinc Box and see all of these new little products waiting for me. Blinc is known for having amazing mascara and other high quality eye makeup that doesn’t budge. This box includes Mascara Amplified, Eyebrow Mousse, Eyeshadow Primer and an Eyeliner Pencil. I was a little disappointed in the mini-sizes, but it is perfect for trying out new things before jumping over my commitment phobia into full size.
If I am truthful with you, and I always am, I was a little underwhelmed by the Blinc products. It’s not that they aren’t good, they just are missing a bit of drama. I have never thought of myself as a mascara connoisseur, but this mascara is light. I always needed to apply multiple coats to get those dramatic lashes that I’m used to.
The one product that I am hooked on is the eyeliner pencil. It lives up to its name and promise of being smudge proof and waterproof. This little black liner isn’t going anywhere no matter what I threw at it over the course of a day.
Even though I wasn’t crazy about the Blinc box doesn’t mean you won’t discover your new favourite product. Anyone who loves that no makeup makeup look will probably be hooked on these. I am a girl looking for a little more drama.
Clarins released a whole pile of new summer products that I am surprised to say, I am hooked on this season. I’ve never considered myself a huge fan of Clarins. I think that they have a reputation of being a bit older and more conservative, but this new round of products will make anyone smile. I don’t care how old you are.
My absolute favourite product in the Clarins makeup line is the Bronzing & Blush Compact. This oversized powder isn’t exactly what I would call compact. It’s large size makes it awkward to take on-the-go. I love this powder anyways. The four shades when blended together are the perfect summer shade for my skin. I get a beautiful bronze finish with a subtle shimmer that is suitable for day or night. I was torn on whether to put this in my favourites of the month or here, so know that it belongs in both places!
Say hello to your new lipstick saver, the Instant Light Lip Perfecting Base! I put this little lip primer to the test with some of the lipsticks that are the worst culprits for disappearing after minutes. While it couldn’t beat them all, I noticed a huge difference in my reapply time. These lipsticks went from a one-hour affair to a full morning in style. I haven’t shared my new secret with anyone yet, so get it while it’s hot!
The Fix’ Makeup-Up Spray has been my other secret weapon through summer’s hot spell. Forget losing my makeup to humidity and sweat. Thanks to a few sprays of this puppy my foundation, bronzer and blush looks just as good when I get home from work as when I left.
I’ve been trying to jump on the serum bandwagon for a while, but have never found one that I like. The new Clarins Hydraquench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase has come the closest to making me a convert. I cannot express my love for how moisturizing it is. I actually think of it more as a moisturizer than a serum in my routine. It has a very faint smell and absorbs into my skin quickly leaving it feels newly hydrated. It is a bit tacky, but nothing that is troublesome. I have fairly oily skin, especially in the summer month, but this didn’t make me breakout at all. Bonus!!
At the bottom of my list is the Waterproof Eyeshadow. I’m not a fan of liquid or cream shadows, so this product didn’t stand a chance. I will always opt for a traditional powder and brush. I will admit that the metallic shades of eyeshadow are very cool. I might not have thought of them as summer shades, but they work perfectly with a bit of a tan.
Nothing is more frustrated than losing your lip colour minutes after leaving the house. Glossy lip colours seem to be more of a culprit of this than matte products. Enter Too Faced, who clearly feel my pain. For some reason, I’ve had many lipsticks lately that just won’t last. When I start with the Lip Insurance though, they double their wear time. I’m not saying it they last all day, but it gives them a serious boost. I can just imagine what will happen when I pair it with an already amazing lipstick. For now, this is my lipstick saver.
