Covergirl Total Tease Mascara Quick Review

It’s been a long time since someone asked me if my lashes were real. I am fooling everyone thanks to Covergirl. I know it sounds like a fake commercial, but it’s the truth. The weird mascara wand does wonders. The trick is that there is a lash teasing part of the applicator. It helps to lengthen and separate your lashes. It’s actually a miracle worker. It makes my lashes so long and fluffy. I have even used it after applying different mascara. I might have found my new favourite mascara of all time.

Essence Forbidden Volume False Lash Mascara Topcoat

Let me tell you a tale of this little Essence mascara: The Forbidden Volume Mascara. This review started out very differently.

I received this essence product in a bag full of eye makeup for a glam night out. It had silver eyeliner and liquid liner. Everything a girl could ever want for serious drama. That’s why I was so surprised when I applied this to my lashes. There was no drama here. My lashes looked weak.

I downgraded this to a day product, but still wasn’t thrilled. After 2 or 3 coats, it would work as my office makeup look, but I don’t like having to work so hard for this.

I used this mascara for weeks. For some reason I wasn’t willing to give up on it. The colour was great on my eyes. I liked that it wasn’t waterproof, but stayed put. It came off easily at the end of the day. It never irritated my eyes. It was a bit clumpy sometimes, but I could usually clean the wand to fix it.

Finally it came time to write this review. I brought the Essence mascara to my computer. I started writing. I wanted to make sure that I got the name correct, so I looked at the package. Essence Forbidden Volume False Lash Mascara Topcoat. Wait a minute! Topcoat? I had no idea it was a topcoat. The instructions on the side of the bottle say to apply it over your favourite mascara.

You mean this is to enhance your favourite mascara? I was never supposed to wear this alone! This changes everything. As a top coat, this essence mascara is perfect to add thickness and colour to your lashes. As a bonus, you can also wear it as your daytime mascara in a pinch. 😉

Blinc Box Discovery Collection

blinc box discovery

I was pretty excited to open up the Blinc Box and see all of these new little products waiting for me. Blinc is known for having amazing mascara and other high quality eye makeup that doesn’t budge. This box includes Mascara Amplified, Eyebrow Mousse, Eyeshadow Primer and an Eyeliner Pencil.  I was a little disappointed in the mini-sizes, but it is perfect for trying out new things before jumping over my commitment phobia into full size.

If I am truthful with you, and I always am, I was a little underwhelmed by the Blinc products. It’s not that they aren’t good, they just are missing a bit of drama. I have never thought of myself as a mascara connoisseur, but this mascara is light. I always needed to apply multiple coats to get those dramatic lashes that I’m used to.

The one product that I am hooked on is the eyeliner pencil. It lives up to its name and promise of being smudge proof and waterproof. This little black liner isn’t going anywhere no matter what I threw at it over the course of a day.

Even though I wasn’t crazy about the Blinc box doesn’t mean you won’t discover your new favourite product. Anyone who loves that no makeup makeup look will probably be hooked on these. I am a girl looking for a little more drama.

Flower Outstretched Lengthening Mascara

Before – I don’t know why my eyes are different sizes!

Make way for this new mascara that I am in love with! The brush looks weird, but just go with it. The longer brush side is for helping to lengthen and curl those lashes. I was as skeptical as you are. It really works though. For someone like me, who refuses to use an eyelash curler, this is the best product I can dream up. Then I just have to spin the wand around to add the dark black mascara. The formula is a bit thick, so you do need to be careful to avoid big clumps. Otherwise though, my lashes have looked amazing lately. The bonus is that Flower is also so affordable, so I don’t have to break the bank to look this good!

After – Boom! Look at that length!

Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara

Many of my favourite mascaras in the past have been from Covergirl, so I was excited to learn about the new Clump Crusher mascara. I have fairly long lashes naturally, so they can get pretty clumpy with the wrong mascara.

I got this new mascara in the mail for free from BzzAgent from the new Covergirl Lashblast Collection.

I was heading out to a music festival the first weekend that I used it. I was excited to see the results. One coat was ok, but nothing amazing. My lashes looked sleek. There wasn’t a trace of a clump. Every lash was well defined. I needed another coat though. After a second coat, my lashes still looked hot! No clumps at all! I was impressed.

I left for my music festival with the threat of a storm approaching. When I got there, the sky opened up and it started to rain. I was stuck outside in the pouring rain with just my friends and my amazing lashes. The only problem was, my lashes didn’t look so great anymore.

Unlike the eyelashes of my friends, my mascara was running down my face. So while the Clump Crusher mascara may not create clumps, it also isn’t very waterproof.

Since that day, I have worn the Covergirl mascara many times. I actually really like it other than the waterproof issue. Two coats give the perfect length and thickness for day time drama with no clumps. You just have to decide how important it is for your mascara to rush.

Rimmel Mascara Head To Head

We got the chance to put two of Rimmel’s new mascaras head to head to see which one we would recommend. We tried the Kate Idol Eyes Mascara and the Wonder’Lash Mascara with Argan Oil (waterproof).

kate moss mascara idol eyes

The Kate Idol Eyes Mascara is part of the Kate Moss makeup collection. Who doesn’t want that Kate Moss look? Kate Moss had those cool bedroom eyes that are equal parts sexy and runway.

The brush is curvy in all of the right places. It allows you to turn the brush and flip your hand around so it’s comfortable no matter how you like to apply it. I appreciate that because so many other brushes try to tell you how to apply. This brush lets you choose. There are small bristles at the end and big fast ones in the middle.

The mascara is all va-va-voom. This mascara gives you crazy thick, crazy long and intensely black lashes. These are lashes that you can’t ignore. I found that it took a long time for this mascara to dry. Once I was done, wow! My lashes looked amazing. There was just one problem… this mascara isn’t waterproof at all. I found any little wetness on my lashes caused this mascara to run and run. My eyes are pretty sensitive and water often. The first day I wore this mascara by the time I got to work I had black lines all down my cheeks. Even on a good day, I had those Kate Moss bedroom eyes with the black mascara smudged under my eyes. Maybe that is what Rimmel was going for, but I seriously doubt it.

After that I moved onto the waterproof Wonder’Lash Mascara that comes packed with argan oil. I got this mascara because of the brush. Alyssa wanted to try this mascara, but the Ultra Flex brush was too much for her. The bristles are a great length and even, but the brush is very flexible. It’s clearly too much for some people. It didn’t really bother me too much, but I did notice it. I noticed that I was using the brush differently than other mascaras.

The Wonder’Lash gives you really long lashes without the clumps. My lashes look long, but they didn’t have that plump fake lash look like I got with the Kate Moss mascara. There was absolutely no clumping though. My lashes have never been so sleek and separate. I did find that this mascara was hard to apply on my bottom lashes because of the flexible brush.

Unlike the other mascara, this one isn’t going to run down your cheeks. This mascara is definitely waterproof. It’s been taking me all of the cleaners in my arsenal to wipe off my mascara at the end of the night.

So it’s trust worthy mascara versus ultimate drama. I don’t know how you will choose. I’m glad that I have both of these mascaras because there is definitely a time for both of them.

Maybelline Great Lash Real Impact Mascara

maybelline great lash

We are huge fans of Maybelline, especially Great Lash mascara. We’ve been using it for years. How could we say no to a new version of our favourite classic mascara?

We understand the idea of natural looking and natural feeling mascara, but Great Lash Real Impact mascara takes the idea too far. After applying one coat, my lashes look pretty much the same. They feel soft and silky, sure, but they don’t even look like I’m wearing mascara. After two and three coats it’s the same thing.

I am pretty particular about my lashes. I always want them to be as long and as black as possible. The more drama in my mascara, the better. Maybelline’s Great Lash Real Impact just doesn’t cut it.

It kills us to say this, but it’s true. We still love you Maybelline!!!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Box
My eyelashes are basically white without mascara so I’m always on the hunt for the blackest mascara possible. When Urban Decay announced the release of Perversion mascara with the tagline of Bigger, Blacker, Badder, I was definitely interested in seeing how dark it actually was.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Brush
The Perversion brush is pretty big and doesn’t have any fancy curves or balls. This is a straightforward mascara brush, but don’t underestimate it, there’s some serious volume power in it. The only thing I didn’t love about Perversion was how wet the formula is. I have to do some cleanup after I apply it, every single time.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Swatch
The photo shows you how well it works though. The eye on the left has two coats of Perversion and the eye on the right has no mascara. You can see how dramatic the difference is. And you can pile on as many coats as you want. So far I haven’t hit a clump stage. Perversion is definitely a keeper.

L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara Review

loreal miss manga

L’Oreal’s new Miss Manga mascara takes inspiration from the over the top lashes of Japanese Manga anime. The pink and black bottle had me hooked at first sight. I needed to try it.

The brush looks interesting, but don’t be intimidated. The wavy bristles appear to be different than other mascaras, but you apply it in the exact same way. The brush has a flexible bend in it. In commercials it looks like it will bend as you apply, but it didn’t bother me. I noticed that because of the different brush, this mascara feels so light going on. You might be tempted to apply more layers. You don’t need to!

miss manga mascara

L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara lifts and separates my lashes effortlessly. I barely feel like I am applying anything at all. I was born with naturally long lashes, but Miss Manga mascara made them extra long. It was a bit tough to get the outer and inner lashes covered properly with this brush, but I never had to worry about clumping.

My bottom lashes were even more fun. They made my bottom lashes so long. It’s true, I had to clean off some smudging under my eyes. That is a small price to pay for bottom lashes that feel longer than some peoples’ top lashes.

The best part about Miss Manga Mascara is that after it dries it’s not crunchy. My lashes still feel soft and natural. My eyes sometimes get sensitive to mascara after a long day. Miss Manga mascara never irritates my eyes because it doesn’t even feel like I am wearing it. I am hooked!
