I’m a massive Kérastase fan, to the point where I hoard my products so I don’t run out. Their Discipline line is one of my favourites for combatting frizz. Maybe until now. Their newest release is the Aura Botanica collection, the company’s first foray into natural hair care products with over 95% of the ingredients listed as natural origin. The line comes with four products Shampoo Bain Micellaire, Conditioner Soin Fondamental, Oil Essence D’Eclat and Oil Concentre Essentiel. All of the products have coconut and argan oils and are supposed to eliminate frizz for 72 hours and make your hair 4x shinier. There are also zero silicones or sulfates and they’re 99% biodegradable. Everything sounds good so far, so let’s see how it went.
The shampoo and conditioner are definitely different than I expect from Kérastase. The shampoo has a gel-like consistency and where I normally use a dime size amount of shampoo with Kérastase, I need more with this one if I want to get any kind of lather at all. Even with more of a quarter size amount there isn’t a ton of lather, but my hair definitely feels better. You absolutely have to use this shampoo with the conditioner, you don’t get nearly enough moisture on it’s own. The conditioner on the other hand is very, very thick. Almost masque like, but it doesn’t weigh down my hair. I leave this one on for around 5 minutes and it leaves my hair incredibly soft and easy to manage.
The best part of the collection for me though are the treatments. The Essence D’Eclat is a bi-phase mist that you shake up and apply on damp hair. It’s formula of coconut, argan, jojoba and avocado oils plus Damascus Rose floral water; detangle, de-frizz and make your hair super soft and shiny. If you need a touch up, you can use it on dry hair as well and it won’t leave your hair crunchy. And then there’s the Oil Concentre Essentiel. I adore pre-wash treatment oils and this one is pretty spectacular. You can use it on your scalp if you have dryness or on the ends if your hair is thicker. You can also mix it with the conditioner. When I use it as a pre-wash, I leave it in for about ten minutes and because there aren’t any silicones, it washes out easily.
Aura Botanica might be the best natural hair care line I’ve tried. But if you have super fine hair like I do, it might be best to leave this one for winter. It’s a little too much for my hair right now and I’ve changed over to using just the treatments or my roots get greasy pretty fast. With the whole line, the day I wash my hair looks amazing and frizz-free and shiny and the next day, not so much. With just the treatments, I can go three or four days between washings. It looks like I’ll be continuing my Kérastase hoarding and pull these out next winter. And I can’t wait.
I’m going to try very hard during this whole review to not make a single pun, because I am serious about this Herbal Essences Naked Collection.
I have tried hundreds of new products over the years. The shelves in my bathroom have been filled with shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, gel, hair masks, mousse, oils and so much more. I tend to switch out the products in the front of the shelf regularly. It’s hard for any product to remain in the front of the shelf. How long a product stays in the front of the shelf is often how I measure the merit of a product.
The Herbal Essences Naked Collection has been on the front of my shelf for years. I just had to share my passion for this line with the world!
My favourite part of this hair care line is not the shampoo, which leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean. It is also not the conditioner, which replaces that moisturize without weighing down my hair. It’s the additional products in the line that I love. The Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo is light and airy. The Volumizing Souffle is a mousse that doesn’t leave my curly locks feeling hard and crunchy. The Flexible Hold Spritzer is a light spray gel that holds down flyaways, while my hair is still bouncy and light.
I love the Herbal Essences Naked collection because all of the products are light on my hair. At the end of the day, my hair always still feels natural. It feels like my hair.
It’s also a very affordable line! We all know that Herbal Essences products can be found in your local drugstore at a great price. It’s so rare that good products are also very affordable too!
What are you waiting for? I know I said no puns, but come on, it’s time to get naked!
Nothing warms you up in the winter like Apple Cider, so why not add it to your beauty routine too. If you’ve been following us for a while, you will know that we are huge fans of Live Clean. If I could recommend anything to beauty fans, it would be their hair care products.
Clarifying Shampoo is perfect this time of year. In the New Year everyone wants to detox their body, so why not detox your scalp as well. This Clarifying Shampoo helps to get rid of all of that residue leftover on your hair. It will leave your skin squeaky clean.
Make sure that you follow up with the conditioner though too. Clarifying shampoos in general strip your hair of all of the residue, so it’s important to put some of that moisture back into your hair. Live Clean’s Apple Cider condition is light, so it doesn’t add anything back into your hair that you don’t want.
I haven’t had the greatest track record with natural hair care lines. In the past these hair care products that are supposed to be more gentle on my hair have left me with unmanageable locks that feel dirty, look dry and greasy and make my scalp itchy. I trusted the Herbal Essences brand enough though to try their new Naked hair care collection.
I am so glad that I made the change. Herbal Essences Naked Shampoo and Conditioner get my hair feeling squeaky clean. I have spent a lot on quality shampoos in the past, but nothing made my hair feel this clean before. I can feel the difference as I rinse my hair. My hair actually squeaks when you rub it. That’s a clean you can’t deny! As an added bonus, I love the fresh grapefruit scent in the shower!
Following up with that you have the Flexible Hold Spritzer to keep your style and volume without weighing your hair down. It gives a barely there hold, so your style will last for a bit. It’s best for natural hair styles. If you have any kind of demanding look, you are going to want to turn to real hairspray. For natural waves though this is perfect.
Finally you have the Dry Shampoo for the next few days. This was actually the only product in the line that I wasn’t crazy about. I found it was weak compared to other dry shampoos. It was very light, but I had to use a lot to make any impact. Regardless, I will keep it around for emergencies. If you are using dry shampoo every day though, I would skip it.
I have to admit I am a bit of an addict to going Naked nowadays and I don’t care who knows it. Herbal Essences Naked collection has made me a convert back to natural hair care proving it is possible.
