OPI Infinite Shine Fiji Spring 2017 Collection

We’re way behind on spring nail polish, but we’re working on it. OPI’s spring collection this year is Fiji and it comes in the regular polish, Infinite Shine and GelColor. Infinite Shine has quickly become my favourite type of OPI polish, so I was really happy that those were the ones we got. While I love the new IS base and top coats, all of these photos don’t use any.

Coconuts Over OPI

Go native and do Fiji in the buff with our subtle and toasty taupe.
This is a really nice taupe for my skin tone and two coats were perfect. I don’t know if I would call this spring, but if you’re looking for a good nude polish this is a good one.
No Tan Lines

What better way to complement a flawless island tan, then a warm sunrise orange?
This papaya shade had good coverage in two coats but did have slight pooling issues. It’s a little too yellow for my personal taste but I can imagine it could be a very popular shade.
Exotic Birds Do Not Tweet

They bask in their own golden glow, which is just what you’ll do in this radiant yellow.
I really hate yellow nail polish but if I had to wear one, this is a nice, bright one. It’s a tiny bit patchy but otherwise went on well in two coats. For a yellow, this is a great formula.
Getting Nadi On My Honeymoon

Not just for blushing brides, this pretty hibiscus pink has everyone feeling the heat.
This pink is really pretty but boy did it have patchiness problems. Even with two coats, you can see the unevenness and I really tried to get it smooth. I tried it was a top coat afterwards and it didn’t help much, so the photo is without.
Two-timing The Zones

Why stop with just one? More zones mean more time to flaunt this vibrant pink.
This bright pink was two easy coats and just gorgeous. It’s a great spring shade and definitely one of my favourites.
Living On The Bula-vard!

It’s “Well Hello There!”  up and down when this punchy red pops in for a visit.
I really liked this orange-red more than I expected to. One coat was good, but two was better. This one’s definitely an attention getter, but watch out, it stains.
Polly Want A Lacquer?

The paradise perfection of this lovely lavender has island birds all a chatter.
This really screams spring to me and I basically looked at it and thought ‘aren’t you pretty?’ Good formula, two easy coats, perfect for spring.
I Can Never Hut Up

And why should you? You’re mesmerizing in this iridescent, edge-of-dawn grey.
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to photograph the hidden shimmer in this polish, but I’m really happy I was able to capture a little of it. In the sunlight, this is stunning. It was a very runny formula though, so I had to apply the two coats very carefully. Worth it.
Suzi Without A Paddle

Who needs one when you’re up a creek with this cool and tranquil blue?
While I like the colour of this one, it was both runny and patchy. That’s not really a fun combination. Even though I managed to make this pretty blue presentable in two coats, there are too many similar shades to make this one worth it for me.
Is That A Spear In Your Pocket?

But of course everyone’s happy to see you in this lush, tropical teal.
I loved the last three shades so much that I have a bunch of hearts all over my notes, so let the gushing begin. This teal is not only a one-coater, but it’s pretty amazing. I haven’t found a teal this good in years, but it’s a stainer.
Super Trop-i-cal-i-fiji-istic

Take a day trip to get lost and found in this bottomless reflection of Sea and Sky.
The name of this polish takes way too long to type but the formula is basically the same as Is That A Spear In Your Pocket? One coat? Yes. Perfect Formula? Yes. Staining? NO! Plus it’s a fairly decent match to my Toronto Blue Jays jersey. This polish has win all over it.
Do You Sea What I Sea?

It’s easy to sea why this  shimmering ocean blue is the right color for you.
I don’t even have words for how much I love this one. It’s very sheer so I was wondering how many coats it would take me until I hit opacity. Turns out I only needed two. It’s just spectacular. Did I mention this is without a top coat?I just love it.

I’m really impressed with the Fiji collection and how good the Infinite Shine formulas were. I’ve heard some of the regular polishes weren’t quite as good, but I really had very few issues. More spring polishes coming soon.

OPI Washington DC Fall/Winter 2016 Collection

Fall is my happy place as far as nail polish goes and I’m so happy that we receive fall collections when it’s still summer. First up is OPI’s Washington DC fall/winter collection. There are twelve shades in this collection plus three more ‘limited edition’ Kerry Washington shades. The Scandal star is OPI’s creative ambassador this year and her shades are pretty great. We have a lot of colours to get through, so let’s get started.
Pale To The Chief
OPI Pale To The Chief Swatch
So nearly nude, it’s almost scandalous.
I’m not a huge fan of nude polish but I actually like this one quite a bit. The formula is a little tricky though, I did two coats but I waited a good couple minutes between each one. If you don’t, you risk squishiness and patchiness and settling issues. Be patient with this one and it’ll pay off.
Never A Dulles Moment
OPI Never A Dulles Moment
A curry yellow seen on airport and fashion week runways.
I’m not a fan of yellow in pretty much anything so yellow polish isn’t my thing. As far as tricky yellow formulas go, this one wasn’t too bad. It was actually pretty similar to Pale To The Chief. This was two coats with a little patchiness and slight settling issues. I felt like I had painted my nails with mustard but the few people who saw me wearing it, loved it on me.
Yank My Doodle
OPI Yank My Doodle Swatch
Get a tawny copper mani and call it macaroni
This terracotta shade was relatively easy to work with, the first shade went on very sheer but the second made it perfect. This one is just ok for me. I don’t hate it but I probably won’t wear it again either.
Freedom Of Peach
OPI Freedom Of Peach Swatch
Wearing this creamy peach is your fashion right
This dusty peach was a one-coater! I had zero issues with it and I actually ended up loving it when I was expecting to hate it. I might be completely over orange nail polish but this one just felt a bit different.
Squeaker Of The House
OPI Squeaker Of The House Swatch
A chocolate brown so yummy, it crosses party lines
Squeaker Of The House went on perfectly in two coats and looks like milk chocolate. It’s pretty much everything I want in a brown polish.
Shh…It’s Top Secret
OPI Shh...It's Top Secret! Swatch
A deep, deep brown so dark, it’s incognito
OPI is calling this one brown, so there must be some in there but all I see is black. And I’m ok with that. I coat of this one was good, two was better and a top coat makes it stunning. I love Lincoln Park After Dark for an almost black and this one might be even better.
Madam President
OPI Madam President Swatch
A commanding red with real Oval Office power
1 coat of this pink learning red was great but two is gorgeous. It’s such a great transitional shade between summer and fall and I wore this one for a week without much tip wear. It does stain though. Badly.
OPI By Popular Vote
OPI OPI By Popular Vote Swatch
It’s a landslide victory! This cool apple red is a real winner.
Does this look a little similar to Madam President? Yes, yes it does. This one was a one-coater though and a touch more of a traditional red.
We The Female
OPI We The Female Swatch
You’re hereby authorized to wear this empowering garnet
Two coats of this oxblood red is just perfect. I love this shade for fall.
CIA = Color Is Awesome
OPI CIA = Color Is Awesome Swatch
A smart, dusky blue for secret agent fashionistas
I was expecting to love this deep teal blue but I really didn’t think I would love it this much. It doesn’t hurt that the formula was flawless and this is a one-coater. Staining was minimal. This is one of my favourites from the collection, if not my actual favourite.
Stay Off The Lawn!!
OPI Stay Off The Lawn!! Swatch
Don’t trespass on this deep, lush green
Clearly blue and green polishes are my favourites because there’s going to be a lot of gushing going on between this one and CIA = Color is Awesome. Like CIA, this one was a perfect one-coater only in forest green this time. It’s just perfect.
Suzi – The First Lady Of Nails
OPI Suzi - The First Lady Of Nails Swatch
Command the political scene in this chic olive green.
This olive green was unexpected for me until I realized it could also be considered military green, in which case it makes perfect sense. The first coat of this one was very sheer but two was perfect. I really like this shade and don’t have a lot like it in my collection.

Kerry Washington Shades

Inside The ISABALLETway
OPI Isaballetway Swatch
Washington’s movers-andshakers vie for this caramel crème
Named for Kerry Washington’s daughter, this light brown had a great formula. Two coats were perfect but you can get away with one if you really have to.
Kerry Blossom
OPI Kerry Blossom Swatch
Accomplished stateswomen love this plum with capital flair
This plum shade is so, so pretty. Unfortunately, it’s also patchy. Two coats mostly evened it out and if I was patient enough I might’ve done a third to even it out even more. But I love this shade enough that I didn’t need it completely perfect.
“Liv” In The Gray
OPI Liv In The Gray Swatch
This edgy, sophisticated dark gray makes a strong federal case.
This one-coater gray is another one of my favourites. It’s so gorgeous and a nice little change from black and brown.

Obviously I’m not going to like every shade in a collection this big but this is hands down my favourite OPI collection in a very long time.

OPI Retro Summer 2016

The polish shade choices this summer have been kind of odd to me. I’m not seeing a ton of neon and there have been some very unexpected releases but OPI’s Retro Summer collection has us definitely in a summer kind of mood. Almost all the shades took a couple minutes to settle properly and some didn’t quite get there but there are some really pretty colours in here.
What’s The Double Scoop?
OPI What's The Double Scoop Swatch
Rumor has it this summer-fun pink is taken…by me!
This super pretty pink was perfect in two coats. And while this one didn’t have settling issues, it pooled a lot, so be careful around your cuticles. Luckily, it doesn’t stain.
Flip Flops & Crop Tops
OPI Flip Flops & Crop Tops Swatch
The perfect bright pink to go with all your summer
faves
I’m kind of obsessed with this bright pink shade. I mean, I’ve seen it before, but I still love it. This one was perfect in one coat and it did take a minute to settle properly. I’m going to be using this one a lot.
Towel Me About It
OPI Towel Me About It Swatch
This flirty, sunny yellow speaks volumes on style.
At first glance, this polish really reminds me of that banana penicillin I had as a kid, and I kind of can’t get past that. But this is actually a really good yellow polish. Or it would’ve been if I could’ve gotten it to settle and dry properly. I’d might try this one again when it’s less humid because it’s the first yellow I haven’t instantly hated in a long time.
I’m Getting A Tan-gerine
OPI I'm Getting A Tan-Gerine Swatch
Warm up to this a-peeling, citrusy orange.
It’s too bad this shade is a tad too yellow for me because the formula was pretty good. It was patchy on the first coat but that evened out on the second. Definitely not for me.
SPF XXX
OPI SPF XXX Swatch
An orange-red so hot, it’s off the charts.
I would just like to say, I’m so sick of orange nail polish I’d be happy to never see one again. That said SPF XXX went on in two coats like a dream. Zero issues, it settled perfectly and it’s actually a great shade.
Sailing & Nailing
OPI Sailing & Nailing Swatch
A light, breezy blue to charm your first mate.
And here we have love at first sight in a nail polish. This is everything I want in a summer polish. It’s bright and pretty and two coats went on flawlessly.

OPI Through The Looking Glass Brights Collection

I usually love when OPI does collaborations but sometimes some of the shades just don’t make sense to me. The Through The Looking Glass collection is one of those times. Some of the shades make perfect sense to me but others I’m really not sure about and considering this was a Brights collection, it makes even less sense. So let’s start off with the odder shades of the collection.
What Time Isn’t It?
OPI What Time Isn't It BoxOPI What Time Isn't It Swatch
It’s time for this matte black with slivers of silver. What Time Isn’t It? is considered a special edition polish and the box is pretty nice. I’m not sure how this fits into the movie, but I haven’t seen it yet. But this is neither black, nor matte. This was two coats without a topcoat and while I really like it, I just don’t get it.
A Mirror Escape
OPI A Mirror Escape Swatch
Break free from ordinary in this glittering gold. I don’t like textured polishes and this one goes past that, verging on hate. I did three coats of this one without a topcoat and it’s honestly just ugly. It stayed really lumpy and it felt rough enough that I’m pretty sure I would’ve been catching my nails on everything if it had stayed on for longer than five minutes.
Oh My Majesty!
OPI Oh My Majesty! Swatch
A supremely beautiful pearly alabaster. I get this one, it makes sense to me. But two coats were really sheer and while I don’t hate it, I don’t love it either. It falls into the meh category for me.
I’m Gown For Anything!
OPI I'm Gown For Anything! Swatch
Have a ball in this adventurous, creamy lilac. In case you thought I was going to hate the whole collection, I really don’t. I’m Gown For Anything! is so pretty and I could’ve gotten away with one coat.
Having A Big Head Day
OPI Having A Big Head Day Swatch
Get ahead of the pack in this commanding, hot red. We’re finally heading into bright territory and that’s actually the perfect description for this red. Bright. Two coats went on pretty well but there was a lot of pooling around the cuticles.
Mad For Madness Sake
OPI Mad For Madness Sake Swatch
This fuchsia pink is crazy-hot on you. This pink is gorgeous and bright and perfect for summer. Two coats were perfect and I wore this one for a long time with zero chipping.
The I’s Have It
OPI The I's Have It Swatch
All eyes on ME…and this light powder blue. I love blue polish but this one falls somewhere in the middle of my list, I just have too many like it. I did two thin coats for this one.
What’s The Hatter With You?
OPI What's The Hatter With You Swatch
I’m going crazy for this rich burgundy crème. I love this shade so much and it could’ve been a one-coater but looked way better with two. But this one chipped almost immediately for me and I’m not talking about tip wear, I had full blown chips within an hour of wearing it.
Fearlessly Alice
OPI Fearlessly Alice
A bold cerulean blue with intrepid style. Everything about this shade was perfect for me. It’s bright, it’s a stunning shade and it was perfect in one coat! I wore this one for days without tip wear or chipping and there was no staining when I took it off. I’m in love.

OPI Infinite Shine Spring 2016 Collection

I’ve been using a lot of OPI lately but until now all of that has been the regular polish. This time I tried the Infinite Shine series for the first time. Infinite Shine has it’s own base and top coats and it’s a no light gel lacquer. This is first time I’ve used a base coat with an at home gel polish and I was definitely curious to see if it would make a difference. Almost immediately I had issues with the system. Things weren’t settling or drying like I expected them to. So this post will be split in two parts; the first half is using the Infinite Shine system in it’s entirety and the second half will be using my regular base and top coats with the Infinite Shine polish. I noticed a definite difference. All the swatches are two coats unless otherwise specified.
Experiment #1: OPI Infinite Shine with Infinite Shine base + top coats

Half Past Nude
OPI Half Past Nude Swatch Patchy 1
This was the first shade I tried and the amount of patchiness I had to deal with was my first indication that the whole system might not work for me. I actually really like this nude blush shade though.
Sunrise To Sunset
OPI Sunrise To Sunset Swatch - Too yellow 1
This medium orange was really the only shade in the collection that I really didn’t like. It has way too much yellow in it for me and the fact that it had a lot of the same issues as Half Past Nude didn’t help.
It’s Pink P.M.
OPI It's Pink P.M. Swatch 1
This pastel pink is really on the white side but formula is really great for a shade that pale. It’s definitely a standout light pink from the ones I’ve tried recently.
In Familiar Terra-Tory
OPI In Familiar Terra-tory Swatch - I coat 1
This dark coral is the only shade that was perfect in one coat and yet it was still a tiny bit smudgy with the top coat. That said, I’d wear this one again.

Experiment #2: OPI Infinite Shine Lacquers with alternative base and top coats

Rose Against Time
OPI Rose Against Time Swatch 2
I noticed an immediate improvement with this bright pink. I’m not a huge fan of the shade, it’s a bit too bubblegum for me, but I don’t hate it.
Don’t Provoke The Plum!
OPI Don't Provoke The Plum! Swatch - almost 1 coat 2
This purple is just gorgeous and I could’ve gotten away with one coat but wanted a little more depth. I’m a big fan of this one.
Olive For Green
OPI Olive For Green Swatch 2
I have no idea why I was so surprised by how dark this piney green is but I really was. It’s a gorgeous shade that also could’ve been one coat but looks way better with two.
Reach For The Sky
OPI Reach For The Sky Swatch 2
I adore this light blue so much for spring. It definitely needs two coats but the formula is great.

Results: I didn’t plan on making this an experiment when I started swatching but I’m glad I did. I’m sure some people really love the OPI Infinite Shine system but I’m definitely not one of them. I noticed a major difference when I used the polishes with my favourite base and top coats instead. And actually, I don’t hate that because it gives you a lot more options when it comes to what you need to buy. The shades from this spring collection were pretty great and I would wear quite a few of them again.

OPI Soft Shades Pastels Spring 2016

I’m not a huge fan of pastel nail polish but it’s something I’ve come to expect with spring nails and I was getting very confused by the lack of it this season. Leave it to OPI to make things right in my nail world with their Soft Shades Pastels line. Not only are all six shades pastels but they all basically have the same formula. And for a pastel, it’s a seriously amazing formula. There was a distinct lack of chalkiness throughout the shades and there was minimal patchiness and streaking. All of the photos are two coats with a top coat.
It’s In The Cloud
OPI It's In The Cloud Swatch - dirty white-out, meh
I love a white nail polish but this creamy white just looked dirty to me. Maybe it was a little too much on the warm side, but I would’ve preferred a brighter white.
One Chic Chick
OPI One Chic Chick Swatch - Great Formula, bad colour
Yellow nail polish doesn’t look good on me. Ever. But I’m always looking for a formula that doesn’t suck and this one was really good. If you’re looking for a pale yellow, this is probably the best one I’ve tried so far and if you can pull it off, even better.
Stop It I’m Blushing!
OPI Stop It I'm Blushing! Swatch
This pale peach is the shade that won me over. It’s so notoriously hard to get a good formula for a shade like this and it was so easy to work with.
I Am What I Amethyst
OPI I Am What I Amethyst
I don’t think this shade is really going to remind anyone of amethyst, but it has a really nice hint of lavender. This is the pastel for someone that wants something a little different without going into full on blue/green territory.
This Cost Me A Mint
OPI This Cost Me A Mint Swatch
It Cost Me A Mint might be one of the few green shades I’ve tried that I didn’t automatically love. There’s nothing wrong with this pale green, it’s just a little light for me.
It’s A Boy!
OPI It's A Boy! Swatch
While I’m trying to decide how much I hate the name of this pale blue polish, I definitely love the shade. It’s exactly what I want from a spring polish and considering we’re still getting snow in April, it just makes me happy.

This is such a great collection if you love pastels and all these shades also come in GelColor.

OPI New Orleans Collection Review + Swatches

It’s been a really long time since we’ve featured any OPI on the blog and since we receive so much nail polish it’s been even longer since I’ve tried a new shade from them. Their New Orleans collection is pretty much perfect for spring and we have five shades to show you.
Take A Right On Bourbon
OPI Take A Right On Bourbon Swatch - Brushstrokes
Take A Right On Bourbon didn’t really do much for me, a silver with pink undertones, this shade was ok to work with but the brushstrokes never went away and kind of drove me crazy.
Got Myself Into A Jam-Balaya
OPI Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya - coats didn't settle well
This pink creme had slight coral undertones and was really pretty but I couldn’t for the life of me get the coats to settle into each other and the end effect didn’t look great. I also feel like I’ve been seeing this shade a lot lately and with much better formulas.
Spare Me A French Quarter
OPI Spare Me A French Quarter
Spare Me A French Quarter is a gorgeous raspberry pink and two coats were perfect. This is such a pretty shade for spring.
Rich Girls & Po-Boys
OPI Rich Girls & Po-Boys Swatch - Could've Been 1 Coat, no staining
I feel like bright blue is such a great colour for spring and this one is a great example. I almost got away with one coat and there was zero staining.
I’m Sooo Swamped!
OPI I'm Sooo Swamped! Swatch - brush seemed a little narrower, perfect
I love green polish but looking at the bottle of I’m Sooo Swamped!, I was a little hesitant. But this grassy green is perfection. The brush seemed a little narrower to me but two coats went one so smoothly. I’m completely in love with this shade.

I love how OPI names their shades and I’m really excited to be using OPI again but I wish the formulas were a little more consistent. Luckily the shades we received are the ones I really wanted to try and overall I was really impressed with the New Orleans collection.
