Toronto’s humidity really isn’t conducive to good summer hair. The amount of frizz we’ve come up with has been pretty scary, so these are our Most Wanted summer products for combating the evil frizz.
Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Moisture Renewal Deep Conditioner
When the summer leaves my hair extra dry and frizzy, I have been replacing my regular conditioner with this special deep conditioner. I like that I can just swap this into my regular routine without having to make any big changes. You can use it daily or weekly depending on what your hair needs. My hair’s pretty thick, so I used it at least once a week, but I can see how it could weigh down lighter hair. My hair looked great while using it, so I am keeping it close at hand for emergencies.
Kérastase Laque Couture Hairspray
This hairspray is great for people who aren’t sure what they really need for their hair. The spray is a very fine mist that is easy to start light and layer it on in stages. I found that it dried in my hair extremely quickly, so I wasn’t just spraying blindly. It’s easy to spray and then instantly know if you need a little more. The first time I used this I misjudged the power and sprayed a bit too many layers. Trust Kerastase and know that it has got you covered.
Kérastase Keratine Thermique Smoothing Taming Milk
This summer has been rough on my hair. It has been frizzier than usual from day one. There was no question that I was in need of this! This Kerastase Milk is easy to. All that you have to do is apply it to your towel dried hair. It says to apply extra on really dry parts, which for me was pretty much my entire head. Then you have to blow dry it. I opted to straighten it as well to ensure my waves we sleek. My hair looked awesome and stayed manageable for almost an entire week. At about the 5 day mark I hit it with some dry shampoo and knew the magic was over. Five days of easy to control hair is better than none!
Sebastian Dry Clean Only Instant Refreshing Spray
This dry shampoo from Sebastian is for serious emergencies only! It’s for days when your hair needs a real pick-me-up. It does have a very light, almost white colouring, so be ready to brush it through well. I love how well it absorbs all of the oil in my hair, but it is strong, so save it for the worst days.
Fave 4 Up For Air
I air dry my hair 99% of the time and I haven’t had a ton of luck with air dry creams in the past. So when we received a travel sized version of Fave 4’s Up For Air air dry cream, I didn’t have high expectations. Boy was I wrong. This stuff is amazing! You only need a tiny bit to run through your hair and just let it work while your hair dries. My hair hasn’t been crunchy or sticky since I started using it and it has a really nice tropical smell. My frizz has cut down significantly and I’m already on the hunt for a full size version.
My hair is big, thick and sometimes seriously unmanageable. I have spent years dreaming of thin, straight hair. As I grow older I have learned to embrace all of my hair. That means finding products that work with my hair instead of fighting against it. Here are a few products that have been helping through this season.
Pantene Airspray – Because I don’t wear hairspray very often, I am quite picky about what I use. I have been using the same hairspray for years. Since getting the new Pantene Airspray, I have been finding myself reaching for hairspray more often than ever before. I used to only use hairspray when I straightened by hair. This hairspray is light enough to use even on my curls. Pantene’s spray doesn’t weight down my waves. It also leaves my hair feeling just as bouncy as it should! I guess I have been just using the wrong hairspray all along.
Sebastian Resintek Liquefied Sap – Flyaway hairs be gone with help of this innovative new product from Sebastian hair care. This gooey gel is a wax that you can apply to dry hair to help mold it and shape it into place. I used the sap to help stick down my annoying short hairs that just won’t stay put. The best part about this product is that everyone is going to use it in a different way. It’s flexible and can be used to define and hold your hair as you need. Do yourself a favour and just try it out!
Nexxus Oil Infinite Collection – No one ever has an excuse to have dry hair again now that this Nexxus hair collection exists. With babassu oil, which is a type of vegetable oil from the babassu plant, this shampoo and conditioner packs so much moisture into every wash. After using this line, it was impossible to deny that my hair was shinier than ever. If you still need extra nourishment, there is an oil to help tame frizz and smooth flyaways. My hair isn’t overly dry even at its worst, so this collection was slightly overkill for me. That doesn’t mean I’m not taking advantage of all of this shine while I have it!
ColorProof Crazy Smooth Anti-Frizz Treatment Masque – I swapped out my regular conditioner for a few weeks to try this masque. With my wavy, thick hair that could have been dangerous. This masque is supposed to defrizz, moisturize and repair. I applied this lemony cream to my hair after shampooing and left it for a few minutes. It left my hair feeling great. I don’t think it made my hair feel any better than my normal conditioner though. Since we are currently in the sweet spot between winter dry frizz and summer humidity frizz, I don’t think I gave it the right chance to really perform. I will be saving this cream for a bit later.
It’s been years since I’ve used Pantene. The older formulations were way too heavy for my fine hair but I was intrigued by their new Full & Strong line. There are so many hair products that claim to add volume to your hair but so few actually do.
The shampoo is a medium thick shampoo that lathers really well and has a really great fruity scent. It didn’t leave my hair with that squeaky feeling and while it didn’t feel particularly moisturized on it’s own, it didn’t feel dried out either.
The conditioner was much lighter than I was expecting and because of that I wasn’t expecting much. Luckily I was wrong. My hair is extremely soft every time I use this combination and I get substantial volume.
Since I don’t wash my hair every day the biggest test is to see how long the volume will stay. With Pantene’s Full & Strong, I had decent volume for three days, much longer than most ‘volumizing’ shampoos. I also noticed a lot less breakage than usual, which is where the strong part comes in.
I might not have used Pantene for a long time but this line is definitely bringing me back into the fold.
