Most Wanted Summer Mascara

If I could wear one makeup product for the rest of my life, it would be mascara. A bunch of new ones for summer? Yes please! I constantly change my mascara based on my mood or look I want to go for. These four have been in a pretty heavy rotation lately.

Cover Girl Total Tease Mascara

I’m personally not a fan of Cover Girl mascara in general. I like a big fibre brush and theirs are usually hard plastic which hurts my eyes. Total Tease does have a hard, plastic brush but it doesn’t bother me as much. That said, there’s a serious learning curve to using this interesting wand. Once I got the hang of it, I was rewarded with a ton of length and nicely separated lashes. The little comb helped me get every tiny lash. I found Total Tease way a lot easier to remove than other Cover Girl mascaras.

Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara

Again, my issue with Revlon mascaras was similar to my Cover Girl problem. But Mega Multiplier completely blew me away. Mega is actually a good word for the results I got. The brush gave me massive volume and length and the formula forms little tubes around each lash so there’s no flaking to worry about. Seriously, I feel asleep with this one and woke up to perfect mascara. I have a feeling I’ll be replacing this one when I run out.

MAC Bold & Bad Lash Mascara

If you’ve used MAC’s Haute & Naughty mascara in the past, you know they love to shove brushes in other brushes and give you a ton of lash options. Bad & Bold is a little different in that there’s not only two brushes but also two formulas. The big brush gives you major volume (no clumps!) and the smaller brush is supposed to give you smudge-proof definition to your bottom lashes. I don’t put mascara on my bottom lashes so I use the smaller brush to get all the little lashes on top and to comb through. The results I get are pretty close to fake lashes.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara

Of all the mascaras I’ve tried recently, Lash Paradise is hands down my ideal brush. It’s big, it’s fluffy and it gets my lashes huge. It also fills in the little eyelash gaps on my left eye without looking like I have an eyeliner smudge. I don’t have a ton of experience with L’Oreal mascaras but if Lash Paradise is any indication, I can see why they’re so popular.

Mani Monday – Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy New Shades

It’s been almost a year since we first tried Revlon’s Colorstay Gel Envy nail polish and they’ve just added eight new shades. The formula is the same and so is the application. Skip a base coat, apply two coats of Gel Envy and then a coat of the Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat. I don’t know if they reformulated the top coat or the last one I had was a bad bottle but this time my top coat played much better with the polishes. I stuck with the two coat rule but a couple shades definitely needed more.
Perfect Pair
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Perfect Pair Swatch - 4 Days
I wore this cappuccino shade for four days before taking a photo and there wasn’t any chipping or tip wear. Perfect Pair was definitely the best performing of the new shades I tried.
Gambling Heart
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Gambling Heart Swatch
Whenever I try to photograph a Revlon nail polish with glitter in it, I can never get it to look as amazing as they do in person. I’m not a fan of glitter but this dark pink shade is gorgeous and wasn’t too hard to take off.
Up In Charms
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Up In Charms Swatch - Pooling
Up In Charms has the unfortunate issue of being a typical pale pink. Which means the formula was a pain to deal with and there was a lot of pooling. There’s really not a lot that I do like about this shade.
Get Lucky
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Get Lucky Swatch
Get Lucky made up for Up In Charms. This red tinged orange applied beautifully and lasted almost as long as Perfect Pair in tip wear.
Vegas, Baby
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Vegas, Baby Swatch
I don’t know when I became such a fan of pink nail polish but Vegas, Baby is by far my favourite shade. There’s a shimmer to it that you can really only see in sunlight. Unfortunately, this one chipped on day one but it’s so pretty I’ll definitely use it again.

Overall Revlon’s done a pretty good job delivering on the long wear promise of Gel Envy. I’m liking the top coat a lot more and I love the gambling theme to the names. I would love to see seasonal collections though, very few of these shades resemble a good fall colour but since they’re building up the core collection, that’s ok.

I usually use them in the middle of the day if I’m not wearing foundation to refresh my skin, unclog my pores and keep my pores looking a little less obvious. These are a summer necessity for any kind of oily or combination skin.
fresh. Sugar Nude Tinted Lip Treatment
fresh sugar nude tinted lip treatment
Both Stephanie and I are huge fans of all the Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment shades but I was really happy they introduced Sugar Nude. You get the same tinted lip balm and SPF 15 but in a really natural shimmery blush nude shade. Perfect for when you want the results but don’t want to go clear or have a bright lip.
Sodashi Balancing Face Mist
Sodashi Balancing Face Mist
I live off of face mists and toners all summer to cool down and refresh my skin. Sodashi’s Balancing Face Mist is my newest obsession along those lines. It’s so cooling and hydrating but also balances out my skin at the same time. I love that the scent isn’t overpowering as well. There’s also a Calming Rose Face Mist that I really want to try.

In the summer I need an oil free foundation because I cause enough shine and glow all on my own. This foundation is a superstar. You use the tiniest bit and get completely full coverage, a matte look and flawless looking skin. The Rose Ivory shade is perfect for my fair skin and blended in seamlessly. Affordable Drugstore Makeup Most Wanted

Some makeup enthusiasts might think a higher price means higher quality, but that is not at all true! Here are some drugstore makeup picks you don’t want to miss. Best of all, you won’t have to dip into your savings to afford them all.

live clean coconut shampoo

Live Clean Coconut Milk Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

If you are sick of dry winter hair that is full of static, Live Clean has a new line of shampoo and conditioner that is full of moisturizing properties. I was a little disappointed that the products didn’t smell more like coconut and less soapy. Regardless that are so creamy and soft your hair. My favourite things about the line is that it is all natural and affordable making me feel good about buying it!

Annabelle Lipsies Fruity Lip Balm

Annabelle Lipsies Fruity Lip Balm

I’ve been carrying one of these scented lip balms in my purse since I discovered them. Because they are scented like fruit, many older people might dismiss them, but they are great. These lip balm sticks help to soften your lips, while providing great colour. You will be surprised by the vibrant colour that you get from these sticks. It’s a colour and softness that I found last quite a long time. Best of all they are just $4.95! I recommend the cherry or coco-vanilla.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte Poreless Powder

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder

If you are feeling a bit shiny, keep this powder handy for some last minute touch ups. The matching foundation is not too bad either, but the powder is really where it’s at! I like that I can get the rest of my makeup done and then add this final powder to stop annoying shine. I keep it handy after work too so I can get a shine touch-up without having to reapply my makeup. It’s under $10 making it a great investment.

Revlon PhotoReady Prime

Revlon PhotoReady Prime + Anti-Shine

If you need even more shine protection, try starting your makeup routine with this primer. It’s a slick balm that absorbs all of your oil and shine, so that you are ready to face the day. It makes your face feel dry, without drying it out. This primer is the best way to start your day and so much more affordable than most anti-shine primers.

mm-vt-bottlesSally Hansen Velvet Texture Nail Polish

Sally Hansen Velvet Texture Nail Polish

If you want a cool manicure without hitting the salon, these nail polishes can give you something really different. Sally Hansen has developed a textured matte polish. It’s supposed to give the appearance of velvet. I’m not sure if I would go that far, but it does look different than many of the other matte polishes on the market. There are some bright spring shades to get you in the mood for the new season.

You can buy it on it’s own or get it in a bunch of Joico holiday gift sets. If you’re going to a bunch of holiday parties, you may as well get your shine on.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Fall ’14 Picks

Revlon’s Colorstay Gel Envy is a nail polish that makes your life a little easier. You don’t need to use a base coat, so you get to skip that step. It has it’s own top coat, Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat and it’s supposed to be the home version of a gel polish system; meaning it’s supposed to last a long time. I got a good couple days of out most of them before I got any significant tip wear and I didn’t have any chipping. There are thirty shades in the Gel Envy line, so instead of making one very long post, these are our Most Wanted shades for fall. All of the swatches are two coats and the Diamond Top Coat. I personally like the polishes without the top coat and didn’t find any difference at all in not using it.
High Stakes
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy High Stakes Swatch
This is my favourite shade out of the whole collection. It’s a medium-dark hunter green and the shade is absolutely perfect for fall.
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Showtime Swatch
Showtime is a gorgeous blue-purple shimmer. The photo can’t quite show just how pretty it shimmers in the sunlight. This is a great pick for a night out.
Ace Of Spades
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Ace Of Spades Swatch
Ace Of Spades is a dark grey with a slight shimmer that you can’t see in the photos. It’s a nice substitute for black polish.
Hold ‘Em
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Hold 'Em Swatch
Hold ‘Em is a really pretty plum creme. I got the most wear out of this one before running into tip wear.
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Jackpot Swatch
What’s fall without a gold shade? I had a little bubbling with this one, but I’m pretty sure it was from the top coat and not the actual polish.
Long Shot
Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Long Shot Swatch
Long Shot is more of a dark coral than a typical burnt orange for fall but I love this shade for fall.

With so many shades to choose from it was hard to narrow down our picks for fall but we did it!

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain Review

Lip stains were really popular two years ago, but lately everything has been either glossy lips or classic matte lipstick. Revlon is bringing back the stain with their ColorStay Moisture Stain.

Revlon’s ColorStay Moisture Stain goes on like a lip gloss. It’s thick, but smooth. The colors seem dark, but they go on thin. This means they can be suitable for everything from a day in the office to a night on the town.

The lip stain dries quickly leaving you with dry matte lips packed with colour. You can leave this look or add a gloss over top for a patent appearance. Personally, I am a huge fan of the matte stain.

There is only one problem with Revlon’s ColorStay Stain and it’s the colour staying part. The stain doesn’t last as long as some others. The great rich colour seems to fade fast. Now you need to decide if you want colour now or long lasting for later.
