Makeup Most Wanted August 2017 – Alyssa’s Picks

I was basically housebound for most of August, so my favourite things for August are pretty much my necessities. I’m so happy September is here.

Le Petit Marseillais White Peach & Nectarine Shower Gel

La Petit Marseillais has been around in France for years and now we get a tiny taste of their product line in Canada. I had a chance to try all of the shower gels available in Canada right now (hopefully we get more products soon!) and the White Peach & Nectarine just blew me away. It’s so juicy and fruity smelling but it really mellows out in the shower. It’s also a lot more moisturizing than I expect from a shower gel. I’m actually able to get away with not applying body lotion without getting dried out and itchy and that’s never happened before.

Avène Couvrance High Tolerance Mascara

I love bold mascara but since I wasn’t going out much, I was really looking for something a little simpler but that would make my almost white lashes a little darker. From the first time I used this mascara, I was completely sold. I was already a fan of Avène’s thermal water and suncare products but this mascara really surprised me. It’s made for people with extremely sensitive eyes and I can understand why it works. For a hard plastic brush, it’s actually really gentle. The formula is really pigmented and black and you can get away with one coat. It also gives me a ton of length. Not a lot of volume, but it really separated and curled my lashes. This is my new go-to mascara for daytime.

Joico Blonde Life Collection

A lot of us go blonder in the summer, so it makes sense that Joico would release a collection for blondes just in time. I have some bleach left in my hair from the last balayage highlights I got and I was really skeptical that this collection could make them brighter but it absolutely did. The shampoo on it’s own isn’t moisturizing enough for me (I heard squeaking) but the conditioner makes up for it. It’s a fairly light conditioner, that smells incredible, and it really moisturizes your hair and gives it a nice texture. I haven’t been blow drying my hair, which is what the Brightening Veil is intended for, but I’ve been using it as a leave in styling treatment and it does a pretty good job of eliminating my frizz. I’ll also randomly respray my hair with it because I love the scent so much.

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Melt-In Cream SPF 60

We’ve received tons of sunscreens to review this year and unfortunately for the first half of the summer, Toronto was a rainy mess and I was stuck inside for most of the other half. When I did venture out, I found myself always reaching for this sun cream over all the others. I’d heard a ton of good things about La Roche Posay’s suncare over the years but this was the first time I got to try it and to be honest, not much lives up to it for me. It’s a traditional cream texture with very little scent but it absorbs instantly and doesn’t leave any kind of greasy feel. For a mainly physical sunscreen base, it also doesn’t leave white streaks everywhere. But the biggest part is how well it works. I’m almost paler now than I am in January and this is the first summer ever where I haven’t even gotten a hint of a sunburn. For someone as fair as me, that’s a major win.

Vichy Spa Shower Gel Head to Head

vichy-spa-gel-oil-soap

Vichy is the master of skincare, but I don’t usually think of them as my whole body skin. Vichy is known for face skin care. They are moving from face to body with their new shower gels. We tried both the oil and the cream to see which Vichy Shower Gel reigns supreme.

I started with the Oil version of the shower gel. This one is for all skin types from dry to oily and even sensitive. It has magnesium, copper and zinc to help your skin glow. It has a light soapy smell that is fairly subtle. I found the gel-oil to be very difficult to get out of the bottle. No matter how much a squeezed, I could never get a good stream out. Since it doesn’t really froth up a lot that made for some tricky showers. I felt like I could never get a good clean.

I didn’t give up though, because I had another Vichy cleanser to try.

Next I moved the Vichy Spa Shower Gel –Cream. This one has the same distinct smell so if you like it (or don’t) then you will have an easy decision. It’s also for all skin types, so everyone is in luck. The Cream has shea butter and white clay in it for intense comfort and hydration and to help soften your skin. Unlike the oil, this cleanser comes out of the bottle easily and gets nice and frothy. I love how soft this cleaner is on my skin. My skin feels almost instantly smother and softer after using it.

I am so glad that I didn’t give up on Vichy, because I love this Gel-Cream. I am sure that some people will prefer the oil version, so go with your gut on what you think you will like best!

Bioderma Travel Essentials

Bioderma Summer Travel Sizes
Finding travel sizes of some of our favourite products can be a hassle or really expensive. Luckily, Bioderma now has travel sizes of all their most loved products. If you love Bioderma’s Micellar Water (and who doesn’t?) you get three choices in the minis. Sensibio (sensitive skin), Hydrabio (dehydrated skin) and Sébium (combination to oily). I almost want to take all three on my trip with me but I’ll settle for Hydrabio.

If a Micellar water isn’t enough for your skin, you can also get the Sébium Foaming Gel to ward off blemishes and keep your skin super clean. And to top it all off you can also get the Atoderm Shower Gel, which is soap free and great for sensitive skin.

Bioderma has truly made it easy for us to get our skin clean and take off all our makeup on the go.

New Shower Most Wanted

I am upgrading my shower time with these new products right now!

Olay Moisture Outlast Body Wash

Olay Moisture Outlast Body Wash – I’ve never gone through a body wash as fast as this. Everyone in the house was obsessed with it the second it made its way into the shower. This Olay shower wash is jam packed full of moisturizer, which makes it perfect for dry skin any time of year. The creamy wash has a soft powdery smell. It seeps right in giving you the smoothest skin that you can ever imagine.

Hair Recipes Shampoo

Hair Recipes Shampoo, Conditioner & Treatment – I love the natural philosophy of Hair Recipes. It all stems from the idea that the best products for your hair are the ones that you can find in your own kitchen. Bringing in the philosophy of homemade hair products, these shampoos and conditioners feature ingredients like avocado, carrot and, the one I tried, egg yolk. This shampoo and conditioner combo left my hair feeling manageable no matter what I did with it after my shower. My favourite part was the Macadamia Oil that I received as well. No matter whether I used it on wet hair after my shower it left my hair feeling soft and looking amazing! It’s my new favourite secret weapon.

Nuxe Shower Oil

Nuxe Shower Oil – I love shower oils, but the name of this product is a bit deceiving. While it may be made of mostly oils, this body wash is more of a gel. While some people are going to hate the very perfumed scent of this oil, I am in love with it. The reason is that it reminds me of my grandmother and her bathroom when I was a child. I don’t know what this wash is scented with, and I don’t think I want to know. I love the mystery of it. It just smells like Grandma to me. It’s an added bonus that it also leaves my skin feeling so soft with a hint of that comforting smell. I lost my grandmother about a year ago, so this was a nice treat.

Clairol Nice ‘n Easy CC+ Colorseal Conditioner

Clairol Nice ‘n Easy CC+ Colorseal Conditioner – If you have ever dyed your hair at home, you have probably fallen in love with the little conditioner that comes in the box. For some reason, no other conditioner ever seems to compare to that tiny little tube. You always try to make it last as long as humanly possible. Well, stop trying to squeeze out the last drop! Clairol has finally packaged up something just like that little tube that you can buy all on its own. This CC+ Conditioner helps to seal in that colour while conditioning your hair to the ultimate softness. Thank you for listening to us all!

Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream

Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream – For something a bit different in the shower, I wanted to throw in this face exfoliator. This has been a staple in my shower for a few weeks. I love exfoliating in the shower. It’s the way that I know I can keep myself on a routine. This Clarins exfoliator is especially gentle on the skin. This is great for an everyday cleaner with an extra bit of power. You don’t have to wait to use it. I’m not crazy about the lotion-y smell, but it works enough that I can ignore it!

Jason Foaming Shower Oil

Think you know soft skin? Forget everything you know! Until you have tried the Jason Foaming Shower Oil, you don’t even know the potential for softness your skin has.

Oils are a big thing this season! Companies are releasing all kinds of different oils for moisturizing and cleansing. The difference is that most are for your face. This is the first oil that I have used for my whole body in the shower.

You just apply this oil to your shower loofah like any other soap. It gets frothy and you wouldn’t even know that it’s oil and not a regular gel.

The all natural smells of these oils are amazing! I tried the shea butter, coconut and olive oil scents. Each of them was great in its own way.

My favourite part of this Jason experience came an hour or so after my shower. My skin was so soft. It was so soft, I was actually surprised… shocked even! From my feet to my arms to my hands, everything was softer with Jason. From now on I am going to be hooked on trying different oils to see what other revelations in skin care I can find!

Lush Spring ’15 Most Wanted

Lush Spring '15
Lush doesn’t necessarily have a spring line but they do have limited edition St Patrick’s and Easter products and a ton of other products that have a spring-like scent so we put together a list of our Most Wanted spring products.
Grass Shower Gel
Lush Grass Shower Gel
There really couldn’t be a spring list without including Grass. It really does smell like a freshly mown lawn, something we’re all waiting for after all the snow from winter.
Somewhere Over The Rainbow Soap
Lush Somewhere Over The Rainbow Soap
Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a limited edition soap but the scent is one of my new favourites and I hope it makes an appearance in future products. Called Rainbow, this scent is a combination of Neroli, Mandarin and Rose oils and just smells delicious.
Green Bubbleroon
Lush Green Bubbleroon
If you love the Grass shower gel, you might want to pick up a Green Bubbleroon. This bubble bar has way more of a lime scent to it but would go really nicely with Grass. And since it’s easy to split in half you can easily get at least two baths out of it.
Pot O’Gold
Lush Pot O'Gold Shower Jelly
If you’ve never had the experience of using one of Lush’s Shower Jellies, you really need to try it. Try leaving it in the fridge and then taking a chunk with you to the shower. Pot O’Gold is a limited edition St. Patrick’s Day product and if you love Honey I Washed The Kids, there’s a good chance you’ll love it. They say there’s pineapple and oranges in it but all I can smell is the vanilla.
Mask Of Magnaminty
Lush Mask Of Magnaminty
Mint always reminds me of spring and summer but if it’s not your thing, you probably won’t love this mask. The second you open the tub, the scent of mint is everywhere and I love it. You can use this mask on your face and your body to get your skin ready for the skin baring clothes coming up.

Lush Valentine’s Day Most Wanted

Lush Valentine's 2015
I’m not really a Valentine’s person but I’ll take any excuse for Lush to release new products. Their Valentine’s Day limited edition line has over a dozen new options, everything from lip scrubs to gifts and they all smell amazing. Everything is bright and cheery and there’s a lot of sparkle going on. These are our Most Wanted from the collection.
The Kiss Lip Gloss
Lush The Kiss Lip Balm
While I’m not a huge fan of sticking my fingers in tinted gloss or balm, The Kiss just has the barest hint of shimmery pink and it doesn’t bother me. It’s super moisturizing and smells incredibly good, it almost reminds me of Lip Smackers only better for my lips. I wish this one wasn’t limited edition because I’m pretty sure I’m going to want another one when this one is gone.
Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar
Lush Unicorn Horn
I don’t think I’ve ever associated unicorns with Valentine’s Day before, but who doesn’t want one? This Unicorn Horn is so big you definitely don’t want to use it all on one bath, there’s a good chance you can get three or four baths out of this. And with it’s calming scent and little bit of glitter you’ll want to stock up on these.
Toucan Love Gift
Lush Toucan Love Gift
I loved the Toucan Love gift before I even opened it. The paper it’s wrapped in is just so cute. Inside you get a Prince Charming shower gel which has a pomegranate/vanilla scent (if you miss Snow Fairy you might want to try it) and Cupid’s Love soap which has a really fruity passion fruit scent. This would make the perfect gift for any girl or just to keep for yourself.

It’s so hard not to get attached to Lush’s limited edition products, especially when they’re this good. But them leaving just means more room for new stuff, so stock up on these while you can!
