Do you remember your days as a teen using acne pad to clear your skin? When I started using The Magic Pads, I felt like I was having a flashback of those days. Back then those pads used to severely dry out my skin and even give me a rash, so there was definitely some concern in my head. Luckily this was a much better experience. The Magic Pads are SO easy to use. You can literally use them any time that you need a quick cleanse. I loved using them in the morning to refresh my skin before my routine. They don’t have an overpowering smell. They don’t dry out my skin. They help with pesky blemishes and tighten up your pores. They aren’t just for your face either. You can use them anywhere. I love them for my neck and chest. I even read reviews about people using them on their feet. I feel like Magic Pads are one of those little secrets that beauty editors and makeup artists keep to themselves, but it’s time for these to be in everyone’s arsenal.

Skyn Iceland Brightening Eye Serum – This eye serum isn’t just small in size, but also price. It’s unique, in that it is more like a gel than any other eye product I’ve used before. It feels really moisturizing around my eyes. Skyn Iceland says it’s meant to relax the skin and boost collagen, all meaning you can say goodbye to lines. I’ve had such success with Skyn Iceland in the past, I don’t doubt them at all.
Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil – If you want a little splurge that will last a long time, try this face oil from Dermalogica. You already know and trust the brand when you get a facial. Get that same moisture with this little oil. You can wear it alone or add it to your daily moisturizer to add a massive boost of hydration to your skin. This face oil is a little bit oily on my skin when worn alone, but you don’t notice it as much when mixed with other products. It does feel refreshing and give my face that nice dewy feel that I just want to touch.
Garnier Skin Active Clearly Brighter Gentle Smoothing Scrub – Garnier’s Skin Active Smoothing Scrub is everything my face wants in a daily face wash. It’s gentle enough to use every day, but tough enough that I feel really clean afterwards. I like that it’s not heavily scented. It even uses sustainable argan, so I can feel a bit better about using it. I do find that it dries out my face a bit, but that just gives me the opportunity to use some of those really super moisturizing creams. For this price, it’s just what my wallet wants for skin care too.
Strivectin Overnight Replenishing Moisture Mask – When in need of a burst of just straight moisture, this Strivectin Overnight Mask is an easy solution. Apply a generous layer on your face before bed and you are sure to wake up feeling extra moisturized. If you are like me, you might worry about getting cream all over your pillow. The Strivectin cream does absorb enough that by the time I was actually putting my head down, my fears were pretty much gone. I feel like this mask is the perfect secret skin care weapon. Personally, it’s not something that I need to use 2 or 3 times a week, but maybe once a month I could get my moisture on with Strivectin.
Erborian Skin Therapy straight from Asia is a passion project of two Korean women. They sought out traditions and natural products from around the world and combined them with Korean tradition to make a line of products. Right now Erborian is made up all of skin care products that can be discovered by ingredient or routine.
If you’ve never tried any products from Korea, you don’t know what you are missing. Korean women take their skin care very seriously. Their products are innovative and cutting edge. A huge portion of the trends that we get here start in Korea, because they are always thinking up the next big thing.
Erborian products are beautifully light on the skin. I tried a few different products and all of them were soft on my skin. Even the exfoliators are oh so gentle. For cleansing, I tried the Cream and Cream Scrub, both which include seven herbs of Korea.
For a deeper clean and moisturizing, I tried the Bamboo Waterlock Mask. I had no idea that bamboo was so moisturizing, but this gel mask is soft and gentle.
As a last step I used the BB Cream with ginseng. Unlike so many BB creams, this one feels like it really cares about your skin. It is skin care first and makeup second. It leaves you with smooth skin with a touch of colour to help even out the skin tone.
If you want to try something innovative and new give Erborian a look, you are sure to be pleasantly surprised.
I already have my favourite BB cream and CC cream, so now I’m moving on up! DD Cream stands for Daily Defense, which is a good thing for anyone’s skin in my books. I wasn’t sure if this new product from Marcelle was meant to be a moisturizer or foundation. It says it can be worn alone or under makeup. I figured that I would be able to tell once I put it on.
It looks like an extremely thick foundation. It’s so thick that you have to be careful how much you apply. It doesn’t spread well, but don’t use that as a reason to apply extra. A little goes a long way.
This DD Cream leaves your skin with great moisture. My skin feels cool, moist and refreshed. My face has a nice glow. It is tinted, but not enough that it could double for foundation per se. It also doesn’t seem to be covering any blemishes.
While I wouldn’t want to leave the house wearing just this DD cream, you also don’t need to wear a full face of makeup on top. I found that when I wore Marcelle’s DD cream, all I needed was a bit of bronzer and some powder and I was ready to roll. It’s great for a weekend when you don’t need to cover up pesky blemishes.
I feel like this first DD cream to the market is really innovative and it’s going to be just the start of a new trend. I can’t wait to see where Marcelle take it!
Spring is in the air! Here are the products that we have fallen for this May!
The Face Shop Mango Seed Collection
This Asian skincare line is making a big splash now that they have come to Canada. After using this line of mango seed skincare, it’s obvious why. The cleanser is oil based and gets your face squeaky clean. It almost leaves your skin feeling too dry. Luckily there is an amazing toner that gets my skin feeling normal again. Finish with one of the face butter’s for my favourite feel of the season!
Lush Shampoo Bars
I was pretty sure that a shampoo bar wouldn’t work on my thick, long hair. It seemed like it would be good for short hair, but not long hair. I didn’t know how this would work in my hair. one word: Brilliantly! It lathers up nicely in my hair and makes my air feel super clean. It’ nice because it works just as good on my boyfriend’s short hair. It will be amazing for taking with us on a trip or camping because it’s easy to pack and comes in it’s own little metal container.
Stila Lush Lips Water Plumping Primer & Nude InterLude Color Balm Lipstick
I am including these together, because in my mind they are inseparable. Since I got them, I have been wearing them together each time. The primer is your first step. They make my lips feel fuller and smoother. I found that I had to wait a few minutes to let it dry before the next step. Stila released three shades of nude lipstick for spring and I am in love with the way it feels on my lips. Using the two together makes my lips feel so amazing. The lipstick is creamy, rich, moisturizing and just all over amazing. I wish that I could get this in a few different colours though so that I could have a shade for every mood!
Too Faced Sugar Pop Eye Shadow Palette
I have never fallen in love with a palette as much as I did with this eye shadow palette at first sight. It’s strange. These sugary sweet hues aren’t often my type. There is something about the shimmery hues and bright colours that just captured me. There is the teal ‘Blue Raspberry’, the sparkly purple ‘Sugared Violet’, and the shimmery nude hues ‘Rock Candy’ and ‘Peach Fuzz’. A colour for every day and I love them all!
The Body Shop’s White Musk has been one of my favourite scents since high school. I may have grown up and my tastes got a little more luxurious, but I still have a bottle of White Musk on my perfume table alongside all of the designer bottles. Ok, I actually have two bottles because I also have the Libertine version.
I never thought that smell would be replaced for me, but the new Smoky Poppy line is ready to over throw my old favourite.
This smell is amazing! I had no idea that I loved the smell of poppies. I didn’t even know what real poppies smelled like. I don’t know if this is what poppies smell like. This is a rich, musky, smoky and almost spicy smell. It’s so rich and warm that I want to wrap myself up in it.
I’ve been obsessed with every product in the line that I have. Obviously the Eau De Toilette is the piece de resistance.
The other product that is very cool is the Poppy Seed Body Scrub. It uses real poppy seeds to exfoliate your skin. Unlike some other scrubs from The Body Shop it doesn’t leave a weird film on my skin. It makes me feel smooth and moisturized!
After writing this review I found out that the Smoky Poppy is a limited edition collection. I am crying on the inside. If you happen to be heading to The Body Shop, pick me up a few extra bottles and send them c/o Makeup Most Wanted because I am going to need to stock up.
Your hands aren’t the only things that get dry and tight during the winter. Give your face some needed moisture with these three new moisturizers.
Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cream
Skyn Iceland had one of my favourite products of last year, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I wanted to try their new moisturizer. This moisturizer is meant to smooth and soothe the skin, hydrate and fix environmental stresses.
The smell and texture of this cream are a little strange, but don’t let that turn you off. The smell is a slightly sour lemon smell. It’s not strong, but it is there. The texture is so weird that it’s almost off putting. It’s like a big ball of jelly. It wiggles and stayed together like a solid cloud.
Once you get it out, it’s a really nice moisturizer. It has a cooling effect on the skin that is fresh. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin. It leaves my face feeling refreshed and alert at any time.
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream
If you need something rich and thick, Vichy’s Aqualia moisturizer is exactly what your skin needs. I don’t usually have dry skin year round. So, while I loved the light smell and texture, this moisturizer was a bit too heavy duty for my face. It actually makes me wish that I had dry skin, so that I could appreciate this line for everything it is offering.
Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream
My favourite of the bunch, the moisturizer that is just right, is the Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream Moisturizer. It has a soft powdery smell that I want my skin to smell like. It makes my face feel soft and smooth.
I have started the New Year with some new skin clearing products that can hopefully clear up all of that holiday stress induced bad skin.
The B Kamins Blemish Gel was my first stop. It has that strong chemical scent that you expect from a strong blemish fighting gel. I applied it to my blemishes for a few days and started to clear up my skin quickly. Acne creams tend to dry out my skin, but this one wasn’t so bad.
I followed this up by adding the Corrective Primer and Corrective Mattifier to my morning routine. I always wonder if it will help my skin layering on so many products. Both of these gels come out of the pump pretty thick, but once you have them on, you won’t worry about it anymore. Both the primer and mattifier combine to make my skin look amazing. Say goodbye to shine and say goodbye to pores. You don’t need to struggle with acne to appreciate having matte pore-free skin!
Face masks sometimes feel like they are a dime a dozen, but you can tell when you get the Skyn Iceland Face Gels that they are something different. The package promises less wrinkles and creases in minutes.
From the looks of the packaging, I thought they were going to be complicated and difficult to apply, but these Face Gels are simple. Skyn Iceland has created masks that aren’t all gooey, messy and sticky. These are thin, dry pads that stick to your face without messing up your hands. You just peel off the back sticker and apply to your forehead, smile lines or under your eyes.
I fell instantly in love with the cooling sensation from the pads. It was so relaxing after a long day at work. I used them in all of the right places to feel calm with these cooling pads on my face. As I put my feet up and let the pads do their work, I noticed that they didn’t tug or get stiff like some masks. I could feel them there, but they were never uncomfortable.
After 10 minutes, I went back to the bathroom to remove the pads. There was no tugging or ripping on my skin. They peeled off with no pain. It’s not like those other pads that peel the dirt off of your skin. These slide off and leave your skin feeling soft and moist. My skin has never felt better. It feels so soft that I can’t stop touching it. I don’t really think I have wrinkles, but even my skin feels unbelievably smooth after using these little pads. Under my eyes does feel tighter, leading me to believe that if I did have wrinkles, I would be praising the miracle properties of Skyn Iceland even more. For now I will keep on relaxing with these cool pads on my face and fight wrinkles before they start.
After you hear all of these amazing things about the Skyn Iceland Face Gels, you probably won’t believe me when I tell you that you can get a bag full of all the gels you need for under $20!
Sometimes you need to splurge on skin treatments, and other times you find a great product that does wonders for your skin for under $20. This is the case with the Masque Bar line from Look Beauty.
These little masks are formulated to for a range of different skin types. It’s easy to figure out which one you want to use. Over a few months, I tried the Pore Reducing Crème Mask, the Brightening Sheet Mask and the Anti-Blemish Mud Mask. It would have been easy for Look Beauty to cheap out and just make a similar mask and call it different things. They didn’t! Each of the masks had their own properties. They all felt different and dried different. It gave me confidence that each was made different.
There was one common theme though. After I rinsed off these masks, my skin always felt amazing. My face felt deeply moisturized without feeling sticky or wet. Most of all they left my face feeling really clean without getting dry. It’s all a delicate balance and the Masque Bar line has done it all.
It’s going to be my new skin care secret!
