Makeup Most Wanted July 2016 – Alyssa’s Picks

I can’t believe summer is half over and with the heat wave we’ve been having in Toronto, I’m about ready for fall. I went on vacation during July so this month all my picks were what I used the most while travelling.
Dermalogica Active Moist
Dermalogica Active Moist
My combination skin tends to go to the oily side during the summer, so finding a lightweight moisturizer that keeps my skin hydrated without making it greasy is really important. Active Moist is oil-free and made for combination skin, plus it absorbs pretty much instantly. It leaves my skin really soft and dewy without looking like you could fry something on my face.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Flying is pretty much the worst thing for your skin. While some people use masks to keep save their skin from getting dehydrated, I love face mists and Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir is one of my favourites. It comes in 30mL and 100mL, both of which are perfect for travelling. This grape-based mist not only totally refreshes your skin but also minimizes pores, boosts radiance and can be used as a setting spray.
Sephora Super Nourishing Lip Balm
Sephora Super Nourishing Lip Balm
My lips aren’t in the best shape from all the matte lipstick I’ve been wearing and this lip balm has been a massive help in fixing them. I love that it applies like a lipstick. It’s really creamy but absorbs quickly and it has a really subtle vanilla scent. There are honestly quite a few Sephora brand products that could’ve made this list but the lip balm edged them out.
Stila Convertible Color in Camellia
Stila Convertible Color CamelliaI’ve tried a ton of Stila products over the years but never a Convertible Color, which have basically been around forever. If you love a multi-use product like I do, this one’s the motherlode. You can use it as a lipstick and blush and I’ve been known to use it as an eyeshadow in a pinch as well. Camellia is the closest thing I’ve found to a decent bronzer on my extremely fair skin. All you need with one of these compacts are your fingers. There’s a mirror built in and they’re creamy enough to blend really well without a brush.
Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette
Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate BarI took exactly one eyeshadow palette with me on vacation and it was this one. Considering my trip consisted of a wedding plus a lot of full day walking trips, I needed something that would cover everything and boy did it. There are lighter, neutral shades mixed in with deeper browns and pops of blue. Plus it smells like chocolate! All the shadows blended beautifully and there was a way to use it whatever I was doing. This is probably my favourite neutral palette right now.

Last Minute Gifts From Shoppers Drug Mart

It’s the day of Christmas Eve and you still have shopping to do. Sound familiar? Most people don’t want to brave a mall on Christmas Eve and happily there are a few other options. Shoppers Drug Mart seems to be where most guys end up and luckily they have some great beauty gifts.
Quo Cosmetics Lips All Around
Quo Cosmetics Lips All Around
If you need a last minute gift for a niece, sister or someone’s girlfriend; this 8-piece lip gloss gift is perfect. Don’t want lip gloss? Quo Cosmetics has a ton of other gift options like eyeshadow palettes and nail polish sets.
Stila Sealed With A Kiss Lip Glaze Set
Stila Sealed With A Kiss Lip Glaze Set
Yes, this is another lip gloss set but this one is more for the beauty junkie in your life. Stila Lip Glaze’s have a cult following and why give one when you can give six decent sized minis? This set includes Pomegranate Sparkle, Ruby Grapefruit, Raspberry, Mandarin Lights, Papaya Pizazz and Peach.
Burt’s Bees A Bit Of Burt’s Bees in Pomegranate
Burt's Bees A Bit Of Burt's Bees - Pomegranate
This little gift is essential for anyone spending a lot of time in the dry, skin killing outdoors. With a Pomegranate Moisturizing Lip Balm and Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, this will help out with chapped lips and dried out fingers.
Soap & Glory Winter Wonderhand
Soap & Glory Winter Wonderhand
I go through hand cream like crazy during the winter and there’s never enough to go around. If you’re like me Soap & Glory’s Winter Wonderhand is a must have. With three versions of the super moisturizing Hand Food in Original Pink, Sugar Crush and Smoothie Star; this gift will keep hands soft and hydrated all winter.

Makeup Most Wanted July 2015 – Alyssa’s Picks

July 2015 Most Wanted
Toronto’s in a heatwave this week so I’ve been wearing the bare minimum of makeup but that definitely doesn’t reflect my whole month. These were my necessities for July.
NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Pasiphae
NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Pasiphae
This is a brand new shade from NARS for fall and I’ve only seen it in one store on a shopping trip to Buffalo. I must have walked past it six times, each time thinking how pretty it was and how I needed it and boy does it live up to what I expected. I couldn’t get a photo to show how truly gorgeous this shimmery burgundy green is. I love that it’s got completely different finishes when used wet or dry. This is definitely my latest obsession.
Stila Stay All Day Precision Glide Brow Pencil in Blonde
Stila Stay All Day Precision Glide Brow Pencil in Blonde
I definitely don’t fill in my brows nearly as often as I should considering they’re almost white. But I do love a brow pencil and Stila’s Precision Glide in Blonde is perfect for me. It looks completely natural, is easy to use and lasts until I take it off. Which is in this heat is fantastic because who wants to worry about their eyebrows sliding off?
derma-e Microdermabrasion Scrub
derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub
My skin always feels more clogged in the summer because of all the sweating and this scrub makes it feel so much better. It’s really light and gentle but grainy enough that you actually feel it doing something. Plus it only takes a minute and lemon scent is amazing.
Lise Watier Rivages Bronzing Powder
Lise Watier Rivages Bronzing Powder
I’m so fair that half the time even the lightest shades of foundation are too dark for me. So needless to say bronzers don’t really work for me. Rivages Bronzing Powder is one of the first that doesn’t make me look like a Kardashian, so when I want a little colour I use this with a light hand for a nice glow.
Marcelle Cleansing Cloths
Marcelle Cleansing Cloths
Because I don’t want my makeup a sweaty mess in the summer, I use a ton of waterproof products, setting sprays, basically anything that’ll make it stick. That makes taking it off a real job. Marcelle’s Cleansing Cloths are fantastic at letting me take off my makeup without feeling like I’m taking off a layer of skin. These cloths are larger than most so I have more surface area to work with. They’re extremely soft and not too wet. I love that I don’t feel like I have a layer of film on my skin when I’m done and these get off even the most waterproof of mascaras.

Stila Summer ’15 Most Wanted

Stila Summer '15 Most Wanted Boxed
Summer makeup is best when it’s super easy, throw a couple products on and hope they last through the day. It’s even better when you don’t need any tools and can throw them in your purse to apply on the go. Our Stila Summer Most Wanted picks have made our summer looks extremely easy.
Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo in Light
Stila Shape & Color Custom Contour Duo in Light
I’m extremely fair and I don’t love the whole contour trend in general (Stephanie recently did a post on her favourite contour products), so when this kit was recommended to me I was pretty skeptical. But the shades are actually light enough for me and look natural. It’s really easy to apply with the matching Shape & Shade Custom Contour Brush or you could be really lazy and use your fingers for a lighter contour. If I’m going to even attempt to contour, I reach for this creamy duo.
Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush in Rosewater
Stila Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush in Rosewater
If you want a blush that’s basically foolproof, you need to try Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush. It’s a gel blush that comes in a netted pot. I apply it with my fingers and it’s really impossible to mess up. Rosewater is a sheer rose colour that blends in really well with my skin tone and leaves me with a subtle glow. If you like a more dramatic blush you might need a brighter shade but I love the look I get with Rosewater.
Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Amalfi
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Amalfi
I’m already a huge fan of Stila’s Liquid Lipstick and Amalfi’s coral pink is the perfect shade for summer. It’s extremely bright but flattering and it lasts forever without drying out my lips. This has definitely become a staple in my makeup bag.

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss Review

stila-stay-all-day-copy-vinyl-lip-gloss

Stila has come out with a lip gloss that is over the top in all of the right ways. Stila’s new Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss is ultra-glossy and ultra-shiny giving me lips that really do look vinyl. The bright pink and red lip glosses give me a bold high shine that just won’t quit.

When I first applied the Stila Lip Gloss I was surprised. Sure, the gloss colour looks bold in the bottle, but wearing it takes it to a whole new level. It’s rare that a lip gloss is just as colourful and bright as in the bottle. It’s not sheer, but a solid bright pink hue. I have to admit though, that while it’s a bit crazy, this lip gloss is hot, hot, hot!

It’s not easily removable either. My pink lips stayed for hours before I needed to reapply.

So if you want to make an impact next time you go out, this Stila lip gloss is the crucial ingredient.
