2015 had a lot of products I was obsessed with, but not that many that I used on a daily basis. That means picking my favourite products of 2015 was a little easier this year. These are my absolute faves of last year. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream
I’ve tried so many moisturizers over the years that I’ve lost count but the second I tried Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost, I was hooked. This gel cream literally saved my crazy combination skin. It moisturizes for hours, melts into your skin in seconds and completely balances out my oily and dry areas. It also gets rids of my flaky patches and it smells amazing. If they ever discontinue this I’m in big trouble. Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara
Mascara is the one piece of makeup I won’t leave the house without wearing but my eyelashes are hard to work with. One eye has perfect long (though pale) lashes and the other eye has a couple little empty patches. Clinique’s Chubby Lash was the only mascara this year to give me extreme volume on both eyes. This is one of the biggest, straightest brushes I’ve ever used and it works every single time without clumping. Jumbo Jet is a perfect dark black but I’ve also been using Bodacious Black Honey during the day. It looks reddish brown in the tube but it’s a dark brown on my lashes. MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation
I’ve tried a lot of foundations in the past year and a lot of them dried out my skin so much I thought my face was going to crack. MAC’s Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation gave me great buildable coverage while still being hydrating and comfortable. Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil in Blonde
I’ve always hated doing my eyebrows. They’re extremely pale, so I know I should give them a little colour on a regular basis, but it always seems like such a pain. Until I tried Smashbox’s Brow Tech Matte Pencil. From the first day I tried this dual ended pencil, I’ve been doing my brows a lot more often. It takes me less than a minute to get perfectly penciled in brows and it really does make a difference. Plus, Brow Tech stays put until I take it off, even without the addition of a clear brow gel. Too Faced Melted Metal in Metallic Dream House
Too Faced was basically my brand of the year. I could’ve included at least four different products on this list but 2015 was the year I went out of my comfort zone with lipstick and I mostly ended up wearing different shades of Too Faced’s Melted and Melted Metal Lipsticks. Metallic Dream House was in my purse at all times during the summer and I got so many compliments on it that I lost count. This lipstick is so easy to apply, has a great selections of shades, lasts forever and smells like candy. I can’t wait to try the new Melted Chocolate shades.
There are so many holiday collections available this year that it’s hard to decide which ones to spend your money on and we’ve received a lot of them. Too Faced’s Holiday In Paris collection though is my personal favourite and I’m pretty much obsessed with everything about it. The packaging, the colours, the variety, there’s literally something for everyone. Le Grand Palais
With 18 eye shadows, 2 blushes, 1 bronzer, 1 luminizer, deluxe samples of Shadow Insurance, Melted Lipstick in Peony and Better Than Sex Mascara; this is the most extravagant Too Faced set.
It’s perfect for your sister or niece or just to keep on your makeup table. The wide variety of shades give you a ton of looks to choose from as well. Le Grand Chateau
I can’t get over the packaging for Le Grand Chateau. It opens up to reveal 3 mini palettes that have a combined 18 eye shadows, 2 bronzers, a blush and a deluxe sample of Better Than Sex Mascara.
These palettes are perfect to carry with you and are sorted into complimentary shades. Perfect for nearly every look you could ever need. Melted French Kisses
Too Faced’s Melted lipsticks are by far my favourite lipstick. I’ve been wearing these non stop from the second I tried one. I have multiple different shades in my purse at all times.
Melted French Kisses gives you four deluxe sizes in Melted Metal Peony, Melted Chihuahua, Melted Metal Macaron and Melted Berry. I love that you get shade options in this kit and you’re not stuck with bright classic red like most holiday gifts.
I love all the shades but for the holiday season I’m going to be wearing a lot of Berry and I really like the combination of Chihuahua and Metal Peony.
I really can’t get enough of this collection and I wish there was more of it. If you want these, you should probably hurry, they’re selling out everywhere fast.
I might have a lot of pink in my skin tone, but after mascara my favourite beauty product is blush. I’ll pretty much try every shade and consistency but I always go back to powder because it lasts a lot longer on me. Too Faced’s Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush is pretty much everything I’ve dreamed for in a blush.
The packaging alone is adorable, who wouldn’t love heart shaped blush? And the shades are all named after love songs (We’re missing How Deep Is Your Love). But it’s the blushes themselves that I love the most. The pigmentation on these are fantastic and they blend extremely well but they last all day and the colour doesn’t fade. They’re really smooth and not chalky at all.
When every shade looks good on me, I know we have a winner and most of these would look good on any skin tone. If I had to pick favourites I’d probably go with I Will Always Love You and Love Hangover but they’re all gorgeous.
I’m really not a foundation person and if I do wear it I don’t really go for full coverage. But I love Too Faced so I really wanted to try Born This Way. I took a chance on Porcelain because a lot of the lightest shades for foundation lines are still too dark on me. And that’s where the negativity ends, because this Born This Way has completely changed my thoughts on foundation. Infused with Coconut Water, Alpine Rose and Hyaluronic Acid, this foundation not only covers every issue on my face, it’s also comfortable and hydrating.
Born This Way comes in a heavy glass bottle with a pump and bottle is the first part of why I love it. I literally need one drop of this stuff to cover my whole face (I apply with my fingers), so I’m not wasting any product. Porcelain is my perfect summer shade and I’m hoping it won’t be too dark when I get paler in the winter months. My biggest test with a full coverage foundation is applying it without a primer the first time I use it. I have pretty large pores and I hate when foundation makes them stand out more. Born This Way actually minimized them to the point where I had to look for them.
Since the first use I’ve applied it a few ways. I mixed it with moisturizer for a lighter coverage, I used it with primer. I even used a tiny bit as concealer. Each way I tried worked. And each time it lasted until I took it off, even if it was over twelve hours later. I love it so much I’ve been driving Stephanie crazy talking about it.
I finally found the foundation of my dreams. If you want to see the shade selection, you can go to the Too Faced website.
I recently became pretty obsessed with Too Faced’s original Melted Lipstick and I’ve been wearing Candy (a shade no one would ever guess I’d pick) pretty much non stop. So I was really happy when we got a chance to try four shades of the newest version, Melted Metal.
Melted Metal Liquified Metallic Lipstick is the same idea as the regular Melted Lipstick. They come in a tube with a precision tip so you don’t need a brush, though you can definitely use one. They’re extremely creamy and easy to apply and they last for hours. Even the delicious candy scent is the same. The only difference I’ve noticed is they don’t dry to a creamy matte. Instead you get a metallic shine that doesn’t fade in five minutes.
We got to try Melted Metallic Bunny (metallic bubblegum pink), Melted Metallic Dream House (metallic electric fuchsia), Melted Metallic Tu-Tu (metallic warm flamingo) and Melted Metallic Violet (metallic violet orchid). It’s so hard for me to decide what my favourite shade is. Dream House is closest to Candy but there’s an occasion for every shade. I did noticed that Violet was a little more watery than the others and takes a little longer to dry but you still get the same effect and wear time.
I’m so in love with these Melted Metals that I’ve decided to not pick a favourite and just use all of them and maybe combine a couple and see what new shades I can come up with.
If you want to find your perfect shade, check out Too Faced’s website.
We’ve had a chance to try out a ton of new mascaras lately. So many in fact that we had so much trouble narrowing down our favourites that we had to split them into drugstore and luxe categories.
Guerlain Cils D’Enfer So Volume Mascara
This mascara is super volumizing without being clumpy. My lashes are a pretty decent length on their own but need help in the volume department and this definitely delivers. It doesn’t hurt that it smells amazing. And unlike typical round mascara tubes, this one is a perfect rectangular pocket size that fits into places better. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
If you’re scared of eyelash curler or know someone who is, Roller Lash is the next best thing. It literally curls every lash and gives great length at the same time. If you’re looking for more volume though, you probably want to use a coat of this and then add your favourite volumizing mascara on top. Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch Lengthening and Defining Mascara
Smoky Stretch really gives you some serious length but doesn’t clump at all. It’s quickly become my favourite daytime mascara and I love that my eyelashes look super long and defined but subtle at the same time. Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
I can’t say enough about this mascara. You want volume? You’ve got it. This mascara is supposed to make your lashes look like you’re wearing falsies and it really does. This is literally everything I want in a mascara. This YSL classic mascara has been reformulated for it’s 15th anniversary and comes in six shades. It might be on the pricier side of mascaras but considering how well it works, I’d say it’s worth the money. Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme!
If you want to really go all out with your lashes but can’t get a handle on fake lash strips, you need to try this set. First you use the gold tubed primer. Then you follow up with two coats of the white lash extension fibres and finish off with another coat of primer. You end up with seriously major lashes. Calling it extreme isn’t an understatement. And for a night out when I want up up my lash game and don’t want to deal with fake eyelashes, this is what I reach for.
I don’t wear foundation very often but when I do I need a primer under it so my skin doesn’t dry out and flake. Luckily there are so many amazing ones to choose from and it seems like they all do different things. These are my most wanted primers.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish
This one might seem obvious. It’s a cult favourite and probably the most well known primer out there but there’s a reason for that. It works. It goes on smoothly and helps keep your makeup in place. It’s the first primer I’d ever used and I still keep some around at all times.
Clinique Superprimer Colour Corrects Dullness This one is pretty new to me and I don’t know how I lived without it. It feels amazing going on and your skin feels soft all day. It looks pink out of the tube but doesn’t really leave a colour on your skin. Instead it brightens up your complexion and leaves you glowing, even under makeup. This is my absolute favourite on the list.
Rimmel Stay Matte
I use this one alone on days that I’m a little shiny. It does exactly what the name says, it stays matte all day. It’s not heavy and you’ll forget you have anything on your face but the shine is gone.
Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer I use this one two different ways. The first is under foundation as a primer that adds a little glow. The second is as a spot highlighter. It does both really well. Use it sparingly though, it highlights a lot.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance This is the best primer I’ve tried for eyeshadow. Once you put your shadow on over it, it’s there until you take it off. And in a few cases that’s been the next day. There really isn’t enough I can say about this primer. If you have problems with eyeshadow fading or creasing give it a try.
There are so many more primers I haven’t tried yet and more that I have but these are my most wanted picks.
There are so many neutral palettes coming out lately and I love them but at some point you want a little more variety. Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar palette is a great alternative. With shades in the brown, pink and plum families along with matte and shimmer shades; there’s something for every occasion. I love that the base shades (White Chocolate and Champagne Truffle) come in a larger size since those are always the ones that run out first.
Not only are the colours gorgeous and long lasting but they’re made with real cocoa which is supposedly good for your skin. And it actually smells like chocolate! Want a quick chocolate fix? Grab the Chocolate Bar palette and throw on some eyeshadow.
