Spring is coming to an end, and it’s time to get a few last makeup products before you are in full summer mode. Try one of these new products before the heat gets turned up!
Gosh Brow Sculpting Fibre Gel
Unlike a lot of girls I know, I just can’t get excited about my brows. I’ve tried. I was blessed with brows that don’t need to be filled in and also don’t need to be trimmed, other than the occasional stray. The Gosh Brow Sculpting Gel helped me turn my lucky natural brows into a face defining feature. It held those strays in place while making my brows look more defined and put the focus there. It does it’s just well, I’m just not sure this is the look that I personally want. We will put this in the maybe pile.
Quo Cushion Concealer
What more can be said about the Quo Cushion Concealer that hasn’t been said about any other concealer. This isn’t a bad product, but it does it’s job without making much of a scene or really being exceptional. I like the twist up cushion applicator, even though sometimes I find these types of applicators a bit gross. They tend to get dirty fast from touching your face every day. The makeup is tricky. It has a bit of a light reflecting shine, so I found it was most effective under the eyes. When I applied it on other blemishes, it covered up the colour, but made the spot more noticeable. It was obvious that I was trying to conceal something. It I applied it under foundation it was great, but then I didn’t really need it, did I?
Lise Watier CC Crème
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a new CC crème to the market. Lise Watier released this one to the market recently to do double duty as a colour correcting cream and moisturizer. It definitely does both. It’s like your most trusted moisturizer turned into a foundation. It has some of the best properties of both. People who are loyal to heavy coloured foundations won’t be able to stick with just this, but I like it as a happy medium that allows me to apply just one layer or product to my face. Otherwise it’s pretty no fuss.
Wander Beauty Carryon Lip and Cheek Gel
If you haven’t discovered Wander Beauty yet, it’s a really interested brand that makes travel makeup. The lip and cheek gel is the perfect refresher to give you colour without taking up any space in your bag. The crayon is a shimmery pink that is perfect to highlight your lips and cheeks after a day in the sun. It gave me just the right hue that matched bronzed colour.
Eyeliner is one of my favourite makeup products and I prefer a pencil over anything else. Kohl, gel, it doesn’t matter, I just like the control I get with a pencil. I’d also prefer to not have to sharpen it. Enter Wander Beauty’s Slide Liner Automatic Gel Eyeliner. I was already impressed with the initial Wander Beauty products I had tried, so I had high hopes for these pencils. I was given Black Sand and Tan Line to try and I was really happy with these pencils. They’re unbelievably pigmented and creamy, which makes applying them a breeze. They’re a little soft, so the pointed tip goes away pretty quickly but I can live with that. What I love the most is how long they last. On my upper lash line, these didn’t budge for hours and while my waterline didn’t fare as well, these did last longer than most gel eyeliners. Use an eyeshadow primer and you’ll be golden.
Carryon Lip And Cheek Gel
I love blush almost an unreasonable amount for someone with so much pink in my skin but I hate travelling with it. When I’m away, I keep the brushes to a minimum. Carryon Lip And Cheek Gel is an interesting hydrating stain balm concoction that actually does what I want it to. I tried Pink City (mauve) and Island Hop (bright pink). These work really well as a blush and are extremely buildable but also natural looking, so you don’t have to worry about looking a little clown-like. Because these are part stain, they last a really long time. I do like them for my lips as well but more as a tinted lip balm than an actual stain.
Wander Beauty just keeps impressing me and you could totally hit the road with just the Slide Liners and Carryons and get a decent look out of it. I can’t wait to see what else they come up with.
For more information on Wander Beauty products you can go to their website but you can only buy them in Canada at Sephora.
Both Stephanie and I are going on vacation in the next few months and we decided to do a series of travel essentials posts to help us figure out what to bring with us. I figured we should start off the series with Wander Beauty, a new company that was inspired by travel and has made it easy for us to take less products. We got to try four of their products and I was really impressed overall, but I have definite favourites.
Exquisite Eye Liquid Shadow in Dove Grey
I love the idea of taking one eyeshadow with me on a trip but let’s be honest, if you’re going out at night, you’ll need more. Luckily, this liquid shadow is great one it’s own or as a base. Dove Grey isn’t really a true grey, it’s more of a beige grey, which means it’ll work with a ton of other colours. Unlike a lot of liquid shadows, this one doesn’t get sticky and uncomfortable and lasts hours without creasing. I could do with a little less shimmer but I do really like it enough that I would try other shades.
Frame Your Face Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe
My eyebrows are so pale that they’re basically white, so I usually pick the lightest brow shade possible. When we got the Frame Your Face Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe instead of Blonde, I was hesitant but with a light hand I managed to pull it off. The pencil wasn’t too soft, letting me make short, quick strokes. This is my favourite kind of brow product and I love that there’s a spoolie on the end, making it truly travel friendly.
Flash Focus Hydrating Foundation Stick in Light
Again, I would’ve normally picked the fair shade instead of light, but with summer coming, I know I’ll be getting a little colour in my face and this shade wasn’t really too dark for me to begin with. The stick is extremely creamy and easy to blend and the formula is comfortable to wear. It’s more of a sheer coverage but you can build up to more of a medium coverage if you want. This is definitely one of my favourites.
Wanderout Dual Lipsticks in Nikki Beach/BB
This is really such a genius idea for travel makeup. You get two shades of lipstick that click into the same case, one on each end. Nikki Beach is a bright watermelon shade and BB is a rosy nude. I would normally go for BB alone but mixing it with Nikki makes the perfect summer shade and since they’re already attached, it’s so easy to get.
I’m really loving the products I’ve tried from Wander Beauty. Right now it’s only available online at Sephora in Canada and we don’t have access to all the products just yet, but I’m hoping they add more. Stay tuned for more travel essentials.
